I watched an old episode of I DREAM OF JEANNIE off TV Land. We had a color set when JEANNIE went to color back in the mid-60s, but the shows look much better now with modern transmission technology than they did then. The color on many of those old shows looks very rich, and JEANNIE was one of those.

Finished up the afternoon with another MONK episode from the Season 3 set. This was the one where Monk went on a date (with Alicia Coppola who does a lot of guest starring work).

My friend Margo just told me that her sister Bobbie (sp?) is going to be on "The Today Show" tomorrow morning!  I must tape it for her because Margo doesn't have TV, other than for watching videos and DVDs.  Bobbie is a manager of an REI store in the midwest and, I don't know the details, but I think that her store donated 20 bicycles to a group that helps kids or something like that.  So, "The Today Show" wants to talk with Bobbie and a couple of her co-workers!  Pretty cool! ;D

Instant or OTHERWISE....no....although there were several "Very Special" episodes....

I think that The Facts of Life had more "Very Special" episodes than any other series.  :P

MORE THAN "BLOSSOM"?

I got the script for ...absence of spring... today. I had read most of it online, but they keep the last several pages off, so someone doesn't just rip 'em off and do the play without royalties and permission. Gosh, it's such a beautiful play! And I get the final, breathtaking line! I feel so privileged!!!! What a nice day I'm having!

Back from LACC, and then packaging and shipping a bunch of CDs that had to get out of here.  Just had a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich and am now feeling a bit better.

I was very pleased with the laugh count in act two (almost moreso than act one, which I think needs some punching up in that department).  I thought the act played really well, but there were two things that bugged me - one was a song and one was a song/scene.  The song, which is one of two-and-a-half for which I didn't write the music, and which is the only song in the show for which I did not write the lyric, just really fell flat for me.  David's tune is catchy, but it's not "show" enough for me - plus, the lyric of the song never goes anywhere - it says what it has to say in its first line and then just goes on for another two minutes.  I am going to have to figure out what sort of song it really has to be, and then I'm going to have to write a new one.

The song/scene thing was interesting - it has always felt like a stage weight or stage wait to me, and I, in fact, tried to cut it when we did our last pass.  It's a funny idea, certainly, and the song part of it works really well, so I couldn't quite put my finger on why it was still bugging me.  Then Tammy made a suggestion to move it, to make it the first scene after the opening number of act two (which basically recapitulates the entire plot up to that point).  That made a lot of sense to me, because the scene in question involves a little audience participation, and because it followed a scene and song with plot and characters, it felt like we were stopping the story to do it, whereas if it's first up, it's what it is and then we're back to the story and our forward momentum.  I'm going to at least try switching it to see if that helps.  On the other hand, I did like the way the song that now PREcedes that scene worked, and I'll want to make sure it works as well in its new positition.

On the way down to clean the living room and then settle in for a very full night of TV. However, since SVU is a rerun tonight, I'll be able to get one of the shows I record tonight watched in that last primetime hour.

Re the topic of the day, here's a oldie but goodie, which vixmom probably would have posted if she weren't busy catching up.  :)

It seems two former classmates met at the tenth reunion of their high school graduation. They had not seen or spoken to each other for the past ten years and were using the opportunity to bring each other up to date about their lives.

“Oh! It’s just been wonderful. I met a handsome and rich man in college and we got married right away!” the first one told the other.

“My! How interesting!” replied the second.

“Yes! He has so many rich and important friends that he sent me to Charm School to learn to be a proper lady,” the first one added.

“My! How interesting!” replied the second.

“Yes! I learned my lessons so well that I am considered to be the Most Gracious Hostess of our exclusive country club.”

“My! How interesting!” replied the second.

“But, enough about me. What have you been doing for the past ten years?” the first one asked.

“Well, I also met and married a rich and handsome man in college and he sent me to Charm School, as well.”

“Why, that’s amazing!” responded the first. “What was the most important thing your Charm School taught you?”

“I guess the most important thing they taught me was to say, ‘My! How Interesting!’ instead of ‘Bullshit’.”

"Fuck" is ridiculously abused.  Used in its various forms as noun, verb, adjective, adverb, it has lost all power to shock anymore...and that is a shame.

Maybe some day DR Sandra will tell the story of the plastic flamingos and the F word.

Well it seems I truly revived the laptop. Cool. I'm trying to make this my travel laptop. It has crashed so often that I really don't want to use it for anything important, but getting email and surfing the web while traveling would be good.

I think these are "cultural" language dufferences:

"Don't know from"
"off of"
" Write me"
"my bad"

"from whence" (the from is redundant)

I agree with you, Tom, about "my bad."

But I love "don't know from," which I never heard before this here site. I use it all the time now.

Happy news!  Der Brucer received the following email from one of our rescueing cohorts:

Quote
Rudy, the handsome 8-yr-old red-nosed shepherd mix, returned home to VA today. Apparently, the young couple who had given him a home as a stray just a few months ago (hence the shot record from February), split up recently. When the man returned to the house to get his last load of belongings, he also took Rudy. When the lady wanted Rudy back, he demanded an amount of money which she didn't have...so the man dumped Rudy at the high-kill shelter. When the lady found out, she raced to the shelter, only to find that Rudy had been sent to my home. She was given Diane's number, so we spoke this afternoon & met a few minutes ago. Rudy was a happy boy. Apparently there is also a 14 month old little boy waiting to hug Rudy, too. He is actually a Dingo/Shepherd mix. I kept wondering where those unusually long ears came from!!! The owner was very happy for the re-union...knowing that, if I hadn't taken pity on him. he would have died last Tuesday.
