Title: JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE NOTES
Post by: bk on June 12, 2021, 12:17:45 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a journey and had a center, and now it is time for you to post until the centered cows come home.

Topic of the Day:

Heaven Can Wait
Journey to the Center of the Earth
The Last of Sheila
A Star Is Born

I think these are all the James Mason movies that I've seen. ::) But I thoroughly enjoyed them all.

I have no plans today until 6:00 pm, when I'll be ushering for an actual play to be performed live on stage!  I have no idea what it's about, but I'll find out soon enough.  Then tomorrow, I have a Zoom union meeting in the early afternoon, and then I'm ushering again at 6:00 pm for another local dance company.  The previous times I ushered for local dance companies, the events were filmed, but I don't know if this was filmed, or if it'll be live.  I'll find that out tomorrow.

I slept very very well last night for the first time in ages, and I believe it's the result of a phone call around 4:30 from my urologist. He called to give me the results of last week's bone scan. The scan showed lots of damage, primarily from degenerative arthritis, but as far as they can tell, there is no sign of cancer, which had me terrified.

I will begin my hormone injections next Thursday.

T.O.D.

I thought that James Mason was a fine actor, but none of his roles really jump out at me.

I remember him in the Judy Garland version of A STAR IS BORN, and he played "Dr. Watson" in a Sherlock Holmes movie.

I did see him a couple of time in-person.  Once, he was walking down the driveway of the Beverly Hills Hotel, deep in thought.  Another time, he was lunching with somebody in the Polo Lounge.

I haven’t seen everything James Mason made, by any means, but I’ve always loved him.

I was surprised recently to realize that I’d never seen Georgy Girl, and I just bought the Indicator Blu-ray release which will get a good watching soon.

And since I neglected to post for yesterday’s TOD...

I finally finished up the Dirty Harry movies. What a trip. I believe I liked Magnum Force the least this time, even less than The Dead Pool which has the silliest plot. In spite of the obvious failings of the latter, I just concentrated on Clint, and he still delivers the character magnificently. The other continuing great things for me are the location shooting in and around San Francisco, and the score by Lalo Schifrin. In fact, these two elements have me wanting to take Bullitt off the shelf again for the first time in several years.

Does anyone here do the daily/weekly meta-data crossword? This week's is related to a musical. I think I figured out the meta part faster than any other puzzle so far.

It seems that we can get HBO Max for free since we’re on Xfinity and are already paying for HBO. If so, we’ll be able to watch In the Heights, and I’d love to be able to capture the stream. It’s probably not possible unless you’re a real hacker, but we’ll see.

I do plan to see it on the big screen at the Bedford Playhouse where I stuck my toes back in the water for Rear Window last month.

Just crossed a very long-delayed project off the list.

The kitchen required an extreme deep-cleaning of every nook and cranny, including scrubbing the floor, the countertops, and all the cabinetry.  It was a big job, and if feels good have accomplished it.

The sound we were supposed to do today didn't happen and I'm afraid I had to get tough. In fact, I said unless I was comfortable with everything on Monday that we would not play the preview Tuesday and would not, in fact, play the play until the sound was right and we all were happy. Today was supposed to be eleven and the sound person got there at 1:15 saying he'd never said eleven - unfortunately for him, five people heard him say it. So, others showed up for no reason. Monday was supposed to be at seven - we ALL agreed on it - now it has to be four or eight. I suspect it will be eight.

Great.  After my fitbit broke I started using an app on my phone.  I just need to keep my phone on me most of the day.  Counting my steps keeps me moving more, and is a reminder to get up and walk around every 10-20 minutes when sitting at my desk.

Before we had children, hoping to be more organized, I read articles on how to organize my time better.  Basically they were suggestions on reducing steps and not making as many trips to do everyday tasks.  They all saved time, however, I found my back, as well as the rest of my body, hurt more because I wasn't moving as much.  I returned to my ways of "wasted" trips and time.

ChasSmith, if you're able to capture the stream (I tried and wasn't), would you be able to capture the Spanish language track of the movie, too (just as an audio track)?  There isn't an officially released one, and it's always nice to have different versions of shows that I know and like, even if I don't speak/understand that version.

The crostada was very tart, which I liked. I think American tastes would have wanted more sugar in it. I was happy just the way it was.

Back from a wonderful but as it turns out somewhat bittersweet dinner with Muse Margaret and Richard - can't divulge the bittersweet part for a couple of weeks - nothing bad, just bittersweet.

Dinner was great - a total CHEAT dinner filled with carbs, I imagine. One chicken breast with her Ritz cracker crust - I don't think THAT was bad and the string beans were nothing. It was the rice and the chocolate cake. But it's the first non-Keto day in three or four weeks now, so I'll be a good boy for the next few days, especially good.

When I got home, I was quite surprised to see seven orders for The Creature Wasn't Nice DVD. When that happens it means someone talked about it somewhere - and we zoomed from a sales rank of 4 million-something to just over 100,000 - pretty good.

Well, get a load of this sales rank - I'd say we're a HIT, wouldn't you?

Best Sellers Rank: #3,588 in Movies & TV (See Top 100 in Movies & TV)
#48 in Musicals (Movies & TV)
#469 in Comedy (Movies & TV)

Hopefully, one usher is enough because as of right now, I'm the only one who signed up to usher! :o I'm sure the house manager will usher, too, so I'm sure it'll all be fine.  I'll find out soon enough.

Be back later.

Well, I'm home and have been for a couple of hours.

It was a revue (skits, songs, monologues) mostly about the early 2000s and George W. Bush. :o

It was actually written back then, so they touched on 9/11, "Mission Accomplished," things like that.

I was the only usher, but it was all general admission with specific seats available, so people were distanced, but still could sit where they wanted.

It was quite warm up the stairs where the entrance of the theater is, but I had a diet Coke from McDonald's, and I was given a bottle of water, too.

I just looked up the play, and there's a Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/(I_Am)_Nobody%27s_Lunch).  Here's the introductory paragraph:

(I Am) Nobody's Lunch is a 2006 play with music produced by The Civilians (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Civilians), an investigative theater company in New York City. Based on interviews conducted in 2003, the play explores the compromised issues of trust and truth that arose between the American government and its people during the lead-up to the Iraq War. (I Am) Nobody's Lunch was written and directed by Steve Cosson from interviews by the company, with music and lyrics by Michael Friedman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Friedman_(composer)).

So, deciding on where chapter breaks are supposed to go is always the most time consuming part of making a DVD/Blu-ray.
Title: Re: JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE NOTES
Post by: George on June 13, 2021, 12:13:47 AM
I usually go by the songs, and having the released soundtrack will help, but this soundtrack is only just over an hour and the movie is almost two and a half hours long.
Title: Re: JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE NOTES
Post by: George on June 13, 2021, 12:14:22 AM
And since I don't have the show completely memorized, it's just going to take a while to find out where to place the breaks.
Title: Re: JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE NOTES
Post by: George on June 13, 2021, 12:15:24 AM
AND what doesn't help is that adding the chapters in the program that I use (Nero), which is a good program for making DVDs and Blu-rays, just takes a long time.
