Ordered the simplest warm steam vaporizer from Amazon. Will be here today after two. I almost got the personal steamer and if the one I got isn't to my liking I'll return it and get the personal one where you put your face right into a face holder thing.

My balance sucks this morning. While I was making my coffee, I lost my balance. I didn't fall but I dropped the jar of coffee creamer. Only a few minutes before, I felt I was losing my balance but things were fine. Getting old sucks, but getting really old is worse.

DR singdaw, in 1985 in the old, torn down RCA Studio A, everyone - orchestra, producer, crew, copyists. and I - heard Dame Kiri te Kanawa yell at John McGlinn "I AM NOY A FUCKING ROBOT!"

TOD
In summer 1999, while I was working at Barnes & Noble, I tried to step over one of those velvet rope thingies used to control lines of customers. My left didn't lift high enough, and the contraption and I ended up in a mess on the floor. The next day I asked the manager - my beloved Patty Spettell - to have lnch because I needed to have a serious discussion with her. At lunch, I told her I was having serious physical issues and the fall the day before was the first really serious one. I had been having occasional days where I would walk and stumble because my left leg wouldn't lift off the floor and my left hand would go numb. I had seen my doctor at the time, an elderly moron assigned by my HMO who was just waiting out the days to retirement, and I now suspect after all his misdiagnoses that he was an incompetent fool.

Patty was great; she told me she would be completely supportive: did I need another employee to walk me home? did I need yime off? were there any tasks I could not do? I told her I jsut wanted to keep her abreast of the situation, and I continued to do work without any aid at the store. Meanwhile I spent the summer enduring numerous tests that imbecile doctor sent me to: X-rays, a terrible test where a technician hooked me up to a machine where I was stuck with a sharp needle all over my arms while the technician was a monitor. No diagnosis was set and my condition worsened. I got to the point where I could not hold a pen or pencil and I had to turn down work. I lied and said I was too busy to take on another job. I was terrified the word of my infirmity would get out and I would never work again. This is why I've never wrked with Patti LuPone; I missed my chance.

Janet Watson, wife of Tom Jones (of The Fantasticks) sent me to her chiropractor thinking I needed an adjustment, so I began seeing him once a week. He thought I needed an MRI, but the imbecile doctor sent me instead for more tests. Finally, on a Sunday morning in late September or early October, I went down to Union Square and had an MRI, and the results in: two crushed discs in my neck. This explained why, when I ate something, my esophagus expanded, huit the discs, and my left leg kicked. I still needed my idiot doctor and HMO to approve surgery. I had to go to London two weeks before Thanksgiving to attend rehearsa;s and performances for the BBC broadcast of Jubilee, and my condition worsened. I hope there would be a surgery approval by the time I returned. Well, there wasn't. When the taxi let me out at my apartment the Monday befre Thanksgiving, I dragged myself, my suit bag, and my bag of scores into the foyer of my building, took the first step up to the lobby, and fell up the stairs. Steve, the super at the time, was cleaning the lobby floor. He came over picked my bags in one hand, me in the other, and got me to the elevator and into my apartment.

Two days later, the appointment with a surgeon was approved, and I was him the Monday after Thanksgiving. He looked at the MRI scans, and said, "I leave for Christmas vacation in another week, and this can't wait. I could do this on Dec. 10." And he did. When I came out of surgery and was in recovery, Janet Watso, who lied and told the staff she was my sister, was waiting for me when I woke. On Sunday morning, Dec. 12, I was released. I had to wear one of those padded collars around my neck for six(?) weeks. Beginning in January, I had several months of physical and hand therapy.

I had weird dreams last night of two parallel worlds that you could only get to by swimming through a relatively small hole of water. There were no oxygen tanks and you had to hold your breath for more than a minute to get from one side to the other. One side had nothing blue in it, so the few of us who could do this were taking blue items across. I was getting tired, but I was determined to take a patch of blue irises across. The flowers were not likely to survive, but the plants themselves might. The blues in the dream were vivid.

Inspirational notes, BK; so sorry you have been dealing with that and understandably keeping it to yourself. On top of having the congestion gunk, it’s remarkable you’ve been writing a book and preparing shows. Just know your little online family is here for you. And try to maintain some sort of regular sleep pattern if possible.

Yikes, Fred. What was the cause? (If you’d care to share)

A UTI and a stone were involved, and a stent had to be put in.

The hospital was not in my insurance plan, but was the closest to our home - and the insurance company was clearly convinced of the level of emergency, because they accepted the initial round of hospital and surgery costs without questioning anything.

Or possibly, I had a very good health insurance plan in 2019.

We were prepared to have to pay up to 20% of the bill, but what I was billed was less than 20%, so I happily and gratefully paid it.

Now this is exciting! Scarlett was our leading lady for the Encores! The New Yorkers.

That looks promising! What are you most excited about, DR elmore3003? I would think My Fair Lady has been well-served on recordings. Is there some / lots of unrecorded material on this new release, or is it more a matter of the performers?

One of my favorite things each year is being asked by Bruce to proofread his books. This year, I feel doubly fortunate since he's written a second book. I won't reveal anything about it, except to say that it moved me very deeply. And yes, this old curmudgeon even shed a tear or two on more than one occasion. It's the most heart-felt book of his that I've read, and I've read all but a couple of the early ones.

I had wanted to go see a band that was playing at Gruene Dance Hall next door, but the line to get in was enormous and everyone looked like he or she was 15. We all felt old. So, we went past the line to an ice cream shop. I had a scoop of goat cheese and raspberry jam, plus a scoop of coffee Oreo. Divine.
