Well, dear readers, it is finally the day before Christmas, and soon it will be the night before Christmas and many creatures will be stirring the spaghetti sauce at my annual Christmas Eve Do. Now, even though we have hainsies/kimlets all over the world (my goodness, that must really irk some people, oh, yes, that must really irk some people), you are still part of the “do”. We will be having the “do” right here at haineshisway.com, so be sure to join the partay all the livelong day and night. We will have posting live from the partay and we will describe everything that is going on and also everything that is not going on. I will have a very busy day today – starting this very morning with picking up the beloved Parisienne Cake (a first for the Christmas Eve Do). I then shall come home and begin cooking up a storm. I shall also begin cooking up some food as well. I was going to make my tuna pasta salad last night, but I decided against it. I used to decide for it, but frankly it has been bugging me lately, therefore I have decided against it, and it will have to sit in the corner all the livelong day. If anyone has a clew as to what the hell I’m going on about, tell it to the marines. In any case, first I shall make my tuna pasta salad. When that is done, I will begin the arduous preparations for the arduous spaghetti sauce. That takes quite some time. At some point I shall go to my mail place and see if any final packages have arrived, and I shall also go to the bank to deliver a gift for my favorite person there. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?
Speaking of gifts, if you are one of those persons who waited until today to buy your true love something, I’m afraid the selection is going to be very limited. For example, I just went online and did a search, and about the only really special gift left to get your true love is twelve drummers drumming which, I suppose, is better than twelve drummers sitting around in the nude and playing the xylophone. Although I once had twelve drummers sitting around in the nude and playing the xylophone and it was quite entertaining. In any case, twelve drummers drumming is about it, present-wise. Hopefully your true love likes a lot of drumming.
Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must begin my arduous preparations and difficult tasks such as boiling water.
I had a lovely haircut yesterday, and I did a lovely grocery shopping, and I got a lovely large package from amazon Germany – two more box sets of Edgar Wallace thrillers, which I am now enjoying. I was on a strict diet yesterday, and only ate two bagels (with cream cheese), two donuts (without cream cheese), and popcorn (with butter). I should lose at least ten pounds by noon, don’t you think?
I think someone pointed this out in yesterday’s postings, but this year has been the lightest mail year I’ve ever had at Christmas time. I know some things will come late because they probably went to the old address, but still, it’s just been trickles of mail, like maybe one or two pieces every day.
I’ve got all my implements out, and my pots and pans out, and my festively festive paper plates, cups, and plastic cutlery out, I’ve got candles in place, and a log in the fireplace, and it just smells and feels like Christmas, by gum and by golly and buy bonds. Of course, I open no gifts until Christmas morning. I’m so looking forward to seeing good friends tonight, and convening in the den (our favorite room of choice for gatherings), and I have a special video surprise for the guests, something that has remained unseen for over twenty-two years. More about that later.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must boil water, I must prepare foodstuffs, I must concoct my very top secret spaghetti sauce, I must do my few errands, and perhaps even watch an Edgar Wallace DVD or two. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player, and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – car CD, a group called Twelve Girls Band – fun CD of an all-girl Chinese band. House CD, the fantastic Joe Hisaishi score to Howl’s Moving Castle. That will be replaced this evening with A Broadway Christmas. DVD, Edgar Wallace, although I did rewatch L’Appartement after seeing the wimpy Wicker Park Americanization. They really did screw it up badly – the French original is wonderful and I recommend it strongly to those with all-region players – the DVD comes up often on eBay, or is available on amazon.uk. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, on this most festively festive day – I’ll need lots of fun postings to read whilst slaving over a hot stove and thinking about twelve drummers sitting around in the nude and playing a xylophone.
