A LITTLE BEHIND

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must say I am a little behind. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, am a little behind. Which is, I suppose, better than being a big behind. Not that I haven’t been a big behind on certain occasions, but I much prefer to be a little behind, that is if I had my druthers – oh, a Li’l Abner reference. In any case, I am a little behind and therefore I must write these here notes with the wind so I can get them up and posted and then get some needed rest. Speaking of needed rest, I didn’t get much last night. Somehow, my Internal Clock (IC, in Internet lingo) is set for eight o’clock sharp, and that is when I’ve been getting up each and every morning. Other than getting up early, I spent a rather lazy day. I did a spot of writing, I watched some DVDs, I ate some foodstuffs, and I sat on my couch like so much fish. I took a drive in my motor car, too, and that was a pleasant diversion. One thing I did not do was attend the matinee of the play – I haven’t heard if we had a good show or a decent-sized crowd, but I’m sure I’ll hear at some point today.

Yesterday, I did manage to watch two count them two motion pictures on DVD. The first motion picture on DVD was entitled Dead Cert, adapted from the novel by Dick Francis. This was a very bad film, which surprised me, since it was directed by the usually interesting Tony Richardson. It was sloppily directed, and featured a quite annoying musical score by John Addison, whom I normally enjoy. The only actor I knew was Miss Judi Dench, but she was pretty much wasted, as was my time. Despite the back of the DVD package saying “1:85 anamorphically enhanced” the film was not enhanced and was 1:66, but why should a few minor facts get in the way? That was weird – I accidentally pressed a key on the keyboard without realizing it – suddenly I could not type anything, except for some numbers when I’d press certain keys. Very odd. Then I noticed the key that I inadvertently pressed (something called “num lock” or F6) – I pressed it again, and now everything is fine. Thank goodness, or the rest of these here notes would have looked something like this: 489321782981729812988197291. I then watched the second motion picture on DVD, which was entitled War of the Colossal Beast, a film of Mr. Bert I. Gordon, a sequel to his The Amazing Colossal Man. I’m fond of both films, and it was fun to watch the former again. The transfer is fairly wretched – full frame (should be 1:85), and not very sharp.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below or, to put it another way, 47839748937798734.

Have I mentioned that I’m a little behind? Today I shall endeavor to catch up or, at the very least, to ketchup. I have to buckle down Winsocki and do a class plan, and especially come up with something to do for tomorrow’s class. Thursday our accompanist will be there, so everyone will be singing, and getting their songs recorded. Perhaps tomorrow we’ll work acapella, and just go through the songs and talk about them. We shall wee. We shall wee? What a difference a letter makes. We shall see, not wee, although there may be occasion where we shall wee and not see.

Today I must also do some concentrated writing of the musical, and I must finish polishing one little section of the last short story I finished. I really like it, but I got a detail wrong and now I’m trying to make it right, and it’s proving difficult. Damn them, damn them all to hell.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be a busy little boy, I must not be a little behind, I must go hither and thither and perhaps even yon and I must do a plethora of other things. Today’s topic of discussion: I’m sure we’ve done this one already, but it’s probably been a while and I’m in the mode and the mood so – what were your favorite movie theaters when you were growing up, especially the movie palaces. Describe them in loving detail, please. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and perhaps we shall achieve our new plateau this very day.
