THE TIME IS NIGH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the time is nigh. I don’t have a clew as to what that means, but I like the way it looks. In fact, I wrote it yesterday as a line of dialogue in the musical I’m crafting with Mr. David Wechter and I liked it so much I repeated it about fifteen times and now it’s the first thing that comes out when I’m doing today’s notes. In any case, the time is nigh and so am I. Do you know how the word nigh came about? Some lazy word person was writing “good night” and inadvertently left off the “t” on night. As the lazy word person looked at the word “nigh” he decided that rather than go to the effort of adding the “t” he’d just make up a new word – and so a nigh was born. Later, they made that heartwarming story into a film entitled A Nigh Is Born. If anyone has the slightest clew as to what the HELL I’m going on about, please let us all now as soon as possible. Where was I? Oh, yes, the time is nigh. Shortly, I will have to be on my way to teach class number three of the musical theater workshop (MTW), and thanks to your good suggestions I think it will be a fun class. I transferred a couple of songs to ye olde iPod to use as illustrations (songs from various albums I produced, where I think a vocal is perfect and achieves everything the singer and I wanted it to), plus have several topics of discussion. After that, things get easier on Thursday and next Tuesday because the members of the workshop will be singing for me. Have I mentioned the time is nigh? Speaking of nigh (and who wasn’t), yesterday was quite a nothing little day. Oh, I did this and that and I even did that and this, but it was just sort of day that laid there like so much fish. Certainly I did a few things, oh, yes, certainly I did a few things – for example, I wrote six pages of the musical (including the line “The time is nigh”), I did some errands, and I ate very reasonably. The day turned into evening and the air smelled quite lovely and the crickets were soothing and the night was balmy and why am I suddenly waxing poetic about the fershluganah night. And why don’t I just leave the “t” off of fershluganah night and then, at least, I can wax poetic about the fershluganah nigh. Frankly, or even georgely, I think we’d best move on to the next paragraph, don’t you?

Last night, I managed to watch part one of Ryan’s Daughter, a film of Mr. David Lean. Obviously I cannot report on said film until I finish part two, which will hopefully be this evening. Ryan’s daughter is a three-and-a-half hour film, you see, and it takes three-and-half hours to watch the thing. I also watched the first two episodes of season two of Superman, which just came out on DVD. Interestingly, I haven’t watched any of the episodes from season one, but since the season two box was sitting on my table like so much fish, I just put in disc one. I love the second season of Superman more than any other, and it’s grand to have all these wonderful episodes on DVD, looking pretty darned good, too. For me, Mr. George Reeves will always be Superman. And the show remains so much fun to this day because they’re concise, well played, and cast with terrific character actors (in the first two episodes we get great turns by Dabbs Greer and Hugh Beaumont). Oh, the show would get fairly silly in future seasons, but the first two seasons were aces and I’m loving every minute of seeing them again. It’s a show I used to watch when it first aired, and it’s a show I continued to watch whenever it was in syndication. And now I can watch them whenever I darn well please or whenever the time is nigh.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because, as we all know, the time is nigh.

Today, after teaching the workshop, I must ship some packages (we’re gearing up to release the “live” Kevin Spirtas album on Kritzerland – in fact, we’ll begin taking preorders for it in about two weeks, so stay tuned for the announcement), and I have many things to attend to. And then starting on Wednesday, every day is jam-packed and booked solid, what with onlining the two Disney promo spots, rehearsing with Miss Linda Purl, directing the voiceover session for the promos and then doing the final audio mix. Plus, I must attend at least a couple of performances of the play. Plus, I must write, write, write (that is three writes which, of course, don’t make a wrong).

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do everything I just wrote about in the paragraph above so why I even need this paragraph is an enigma wrapped inside a conundrum. Today’s topic of discussion: Since I’ll be playing several of my produced tracks today, what are your favorite vocal tracks from albums I’ve produced. Normally I don’t do “me” topics, but the time is nigh and so am I and I must shortly be on my way. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, for it is nigh time we did.
