GOOD FOR WHAT AILS YA

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I woke up not feeling well, I continued to feel poorly, I had a raging headache all the livelong day and evening, and I have sucked on so many Coldeez that I wanted to barf. Despite all of the above, I did manage to have a very productive day yesterday, writing-wise – I churned out seven count them seven pages. We’ll see if any of them are any good when I go back to them today. Other than that, I just moped around the home environment feeling oh so sorry for myself. I did manage to have a farewell lunch with dear reader Hisaka, and that was very nice. She is winging her way back to far off Japan as I write these here notes. As I write these here notes I’m feeling a bit better, but I’m very achy and have a mild case of the chills. I hope it will all disappear by the time I arise in the morning, as I have a full day full of things that must be done. Am I whining? Am I being a wussified BK? Am I being a big baby? Well, let’s just put a halt to that, shall we? Let’s just put the old brakes on right now and stop this bellyaching before I get angry and punch me in the kisser. I must maintain my positively positive attitude at all costs ($3.98, on sale). I must go into the shower and wash away all the ills I am feeling and then, when I arise, I must get in the shower and wash away whatever remains of said ills. By the time I get to LACC I want to be feeling my oats, baby, and let me tell you it’s been a long time since my oats have been felt and my oats are going to be happy, I tell you, happy. You know, if anyone has a clew as to what the HELL I’m going on about, do let me know at your earliest opportunity.

Last night, I watched two count them two motion pictures on DVD. The first motion picture on DVD was entitled The Forbidden Photos Of A Lady Above Suspicion. Yep, with a title like that it could only have been one of those kooky Eyetalian giallos, this one being one of the worst I’ve seen. Oh, it had some small pleasures, chief amongst them the cooliscious Ennio Morricone score, but the whole thing was so silly that it defied credulity. I defied credulity the other day and let me tell you credulity was none too happy about it. This particular giallo wasn’t like most of them – in most of them there is a mysterious killer (usually gloved) on the prowl – here, there isn’t, and the whole thing is just a riff on Gaslight. I then watched the second motion picture on DVD, which was entitled The Children Are Watching, a film of Vittorio de Sica. I really like Mr. de Sica’s work, but this early effort, while interesting, isn’t up to his later standards. Certainly Criterion would like us to believe it’s some sort of lost masterpiece, but while there are many excellent scenes, and while Mr. de Sica elicits, as he always does, a terrific performance from a child actor, it’s all just a bit too soap opera-y and maudlin. He perfected this sort of thing a few years later with Shoeshine and his masterpiece, The Bicycle Thief. The restoration looks swell and I’m glad to have seen it, but I’m afraid it’s one I won’t really be revisiting.

What am I, Ebert and Roeper all of a sudden? Why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I hear tell it’s good for what ails ya, and right now there’s plenty that ails me and therefore ya.

Today I must feel better, because I start my day early with the return of the musical theater workshop (MTW), as we read act two of the new musical. We should be able to finish it in plenty of time, and then on Thursday, we’ll be putting all the songs on tape for people, so they can quickly learn everything. I’m also hopeful to start staging stuff that day, as well. After the workshop, I shall have to hie myself back home and pack up and ship a bunch of orders that came in yesterday. And after that, I shall be going to the editing room to begin inserting the pickup shots that need to be inserted, as well as finessing the cut we have. I’m not sure we’ll get all that done tonight, and if not, I’m hoping we can resume tomorrow night.

Tomorrow I’m really looking forward to a lunch that just got scheduled with Miss Susan Egan, who’s opening our cabaret series come July. I haven’t seen her in a ‘coon’s age, and it will be fun to catch up, especially because we’re meeting at The Grove and going to The Cheesecake Factory, which I hear is good for what ails ya.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do all of the above as well as writing a few pages (I’m within fifteen pages of finishing the first act), and attending to some pesky annoyances. Today’s topic of discussion: What do you think are the most abused words in the English language and why? You know, words which really mean something but which are used in a facile manner or a meaningless manner. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, as I hear it’s good for what ails ya.
