THE THING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am writing these here notes very early because I must go to bed early so I can get my beauty sleep before arising at four-twenty in the morning to ready myself for my five o’clock pick up to be driven to the airport. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, shall be on my way to New York, New York for a five-day visit. I’m really looking forward to seeing friends, perhaps seeing a show or two (I’d love to see Blithe Spirit, which I’ll try to score a seat for on Sunday), and getting the singer ready for her show at the Metropolitan Room on Saturday at seven-thirty. I’m hoping to see some of our hainsies/kimlets there, and some of our lurkers, too. Make your reservations if you haven’t already done so. Of course, I’ll be supping at Joe Allen a few times, and I hope to sample some other jernts whilst roaming the highways and the byways of the naked city. There are a million stories in the naked city, if you didn’t know.

I had every intention to be done with all my stuff by four yesterday, but, as always, it just didn’t work out that way. I got up very early and did the long jog. I then had to answer e-mails and then head over to rehearsal, which went very well except for one hiccup. After that, I headed back to the Valley, did the bank thing, did the mail thing (none, nada, nothing), did the Jerry’s Deli thing, did the shopping thing, and did the errand and whatnot thing, finally getting home around four-thirty. Did I then get to relax? Nooooo, I did not. I had to answer yet more e-mails, I had to load a few things onto Ye Olde Laptop, I had to print out a few orders, I had to have a few telephonic calls, and by the time all that was done it was eight, and time to shave (I do the shave thing in the evening, then all I have to do is the shower thing in the morning, which enables me to do a little more of the sleep thing). I didn’t even have time to do the movie thing. What’s with all these “things?” It’s been an endless litany of “things.” In any case, I’m doing the notes thing, and then I shall do the posting thing, and then I shall do the bedroom environment thing.

Of course, I also did the packing thing, and I’m hoping I haven’t done the forgetting thing and that I’ve included everything I need, save for one or two toiletries things I’ll get in New York. I was supposed to get the new release master thing this evening, but as of now it hasn’t arrived, so I’ll have to figure that out in New York. Luckily, it’s uploaded to my iDisk and I just put it all into iTunes and then I’ll burn a CD and listen on the computer (which I don’t love, so I’ll also try to see if I can get to a decent set of speakers at some point, as the laptop speakers are very low-tech).

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must now do the part two thing.

Today, I shall go to the airport, I shall fly to New York, and I shall check into my hotel, so please send excellent vibes and xylophones for an on-time, safe flight, and a nice, happy hotel. I’ll be meeting some folks at Joe Allen around eight-thirty – anywhere from two to six or seven people, all told. Thursday and Friday are rehearsal days, but just two hours each, so I hope to see several friends during those two days. On Thursday night I may try to catch a show (don’t know what I’d be able to see, and house seats from friends don’t work because of Tony voters seeing shows). Friday night is a get-together at FJL’s home environment. Saturday morning we go into the Metropolitan Room to see what’s what, then we return at six-thirty for our sound check/tech. I had no idea how the Metropolitan Room works and it’s rather wacky, if you ask me. For example, there are three shows on Saturday – a five, ours at seven-thirty, and a nine-forty-five, unlike, say, The Gardenia, where it’s one show a night.

On Sunday, I want to see a matinee, and maybe an evening show if there are any, and I’ll also meet some folks for dinner. And bright and early Monday morning, I return to LA and will immediately package and ship out all the House Of Flowers CDs, which arrive early that morning. So, I won’t have a day off until Tuesday and I’m taking Tuesday off and that’s all there is to that.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, fly to New York, sup, maybe use the exercise room at the hotel (if not, then first thing tomorrow morning), and also approve the new release and send mp3s to the web gal, so we can get this thing officially announced. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answers we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, and I will answer any and all questions upon my arrival in New York. In the meantime, I shall do the sleep thing and then the flight thing. Don’t forget the excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, on-time flight and a happy hotel.
