Well, dear readers, this week is already flying by, like a gazelle with a nine iron. What am I, a golfer all of a sudden? And just what is a gazelle doing with a nine iron anyway – putting? I, of course, have never played an actual game of golf, even though I’ve played many, many games of miniature golf (written about in the Kritzer books). We had a wonderful miniature golf place five minutes from my house when I was growing up, and I frequented it quite frequently. I was very good at miniature golf and on the last hole I sometimes made the hole in one and when one made the hole in one on the last hole one got a free game. After our miniature golf game, we kids would go directly next door and have Fosters Freeze ice cream or, if we were really hungry, a cheeseburger. But I’ve never had the desire to either learn or play actual real golf. Frankly, I would flog myself silly if I liked or wanted to play golf, but that makes sense since flog is golf spelled backwards. But the idea of wearing weird pants and walking and hitting golf balls for hours in the blazing sun is not something I’ve ever been interested in, despite having co-written the video Murphy’s Laws of Golf with my pal David Wechter. And yet I’ve known some people who swear by golf. They love golf. They own golf clubs and funny pants and everything. When my close personal friend Judy Kaye was here doing Sweeney Todd at the Ahmanson, she and her ever-lovin’ David Green played golf all the time. I’ve known others who play golf all the time. And I have a golf course, a real golf course, five minutes from the home environment (two minutes by motor car). Perhaps some of our dear readers can explain the joys of golf to me.
Well, I’ve just spent an entire paragraph talking about golf, which I’ve never played and which I don’t have any interest in playing. Yesterday, for example, I did not play golf or think about golf in any way. I did do a two-mile jog, I did have an early luncheon at Hugo’s, I did package and ship a few orders, I did have several long telephonic calls, I did have a visit from Mr. Kevin Spirtas, I did visit my designer, and I did actually manage to have a few hours in which I did nothing. After that, I sat on my couch like so much fish.
Last night, I watched several more episodes of Lost, Season Two. The show took a weird little turn and introduced quite a few new characters, one of whom I found so irritating (mostly due to the writing) that at one point I screamed at the television for her to SHUT UP. But another new character has become one of my favorites. And a couple of the episodes were top-notch and compelling, so on I go. Season two episodes look terrific on Blu and Ray. I’ve also been watching the new Criterion DVD of Made In USA by Mr. Jean-Luc Godard. I must say, I find most of Mr. Godard’s films pretentious, boring, and pointless. I do like Breathless, and I’m fond of Alphaville, but Made In USA is just so cutesy with all his movie references (practically every character is a movie name or a director name or some allusion to CINEMA). The transfer is nice, and I’ll stick it out to the bitter end in hopes that something interesting will happen.
I then listened to the about to be released Kritzerland CD of The Apartment and The Fortune Cookie (and the bonus Irma La Douce track) – what a great CD. As usual, very few here have ordered it (actually this one did a little better than usual here), so once again I cannot recommend this music highly enough – two classic scores from two classic Billy Wilder/Jack Lemmon movies. We’re down to the last hundred copies, so I’m hoping we’ll be sold out in a week or so.
Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m thinking about trying to get a hole in one in the next section.
Today, I shall be picking up the copies of Two’s Company that I had replicated, so if anyone here is interested in a copy drop me an e-mail or PM and I’ll tell you the deal. I’m also picking up my new piece of art from the framers, which I’m very excited about. I also have to read the latest draft of the long musical, and I must eat an early luncheon, and then, later in the early evening I must deliver a big box o’ CDs to a local dealer.
Tomorrow, I have a work session for the long musical, and then I will hopefully be going directly to Mr. Grant Geissman’s home to enter the final fixes on the new novel. Because one of my usual proofers was not available, our very own DAW offered his proofing services and he did a really excellent job.
Thursday is a work session with Mr. Kevin Spirtas and Miss Linda Purl, and there are a few other meetings and meals to be attended to. I’ve tried to keep the weekend open for fun and frolic – we’ll see if I succeed.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, I must pick up DVD copies, I must ship a package or three, I must read a long musical, and I must deliver CDs to a local dealer. Today’s topic of discussion: Golf. I want to hear all about golf – especially from those who’ve played it. And let’s talk about other favorite sports that are similar to golf – such as tennis, ping-pong, racquetball, and whatever else. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we – but that’s just par for the course, isn’t it?
