THE RAGING HEADACHE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have a splitting headache, which I’ve had for the last six hours. Aspirin hasn’t helped. Of course the headache is the result of today’s visit to the dentist, which was shockingly painful, much more so than the last visit, which was for exactly the same thing. In fact, the thing I was dreading most, the shot of Novocain, didn’t hurt at all. It was the drilling down of the tooth that’s getting the crown; that was what did it. Last time, it was the shot that was painful, and then I felt nothing at all for the rest of the visit. This time, it was like the drill was hitting a nerve every time he drilled. I think he sensed my discomfort, and I babbled about it feeling like he was hitting a nerve, but he assured me it was the tenderness of the gums. That, of course, made no sense. At some point, he shot more Novocain, this time directly in the area where he was working. Once he did that, it was a little better. I was there for ninety long minutes, and by the time I left I felt as if I’d been punched in the cheek repeatedly. He put a temporary crown on the tooth. I then had to immediately drive to the tape transfer jernt. That’s really where my headache started, because one of the projects is going to be so tough to put together it’s not even funny, but it’s the one that’s most important, so I guess we’re going to try our best to make sense out of tape logs that make no sense, a couple of boxes that have no logs at all, and a lot of overdubs, which all have to be figured out, put into pro-tools, lined up, and see if we can make it all match. Luckily, there’s a 7 ½ ips tape of all the mixed music – in fact, I’d use that, but it’s got too much distortion on it and it doesn’t sound good, and certainly the four-track originals sound amazing. So, we’ve got a guide and hopefully all the music is on the session tapes and we’ll be able to figure it all out. That score is going to be on a CD with a total of three scores – for me, it will be the release of the year. The second of the three scores is in great shape, already put together, and so that’s easy as pie. I have to pick up the tapes for the third soundtrack. All I will say is that none of these scores have ever been released in any format and the films are quite beloved. It’s probably going to be our most expensive release, and therefore probably the least profitable, even if it sells out instantly, but it’s something we simply have to do. When we announce it, you will understand completely. The other tapes for the other two projects were all in fine shape.
After that, I drove back to the Valley and thankfully there was no traffic. I had a couple of small packages and, thankfully, two Kritzerland payments, which we really needed as we have a boatload of invoices that need paying – I paid them all. I then went to Jerry’s Deli and had bacon and eggs, toast, and a side of fries (I needed a treat). I had to chew everything on the right side of my mouth, and the left side was so sore I couldn’t open my mouth very wide. After that, I came home intending to sit on my couch like so much fish, but instead I had to package up a surprising amount of orders – much to my surprise that took almost two hours. I then took all the packages to the post office. Then I came back and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched two more episodes of Mad Men, neither of them particularly memorable, although both had their moments. I seem to gravitate mostly to the lead’s secretary and wife – they’re my favorite actors on the show. I do like the look of it and the Blu-Ray really is impressive.

After that, I put on some music and just did some stuff on the computer. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I find it hard to think straight or even crooked with a raging headache.

Have I mentioned that I have a raging headache? I think I shall take two more aspirin.

Today, I must get up early and do some sort of jog, then I must hurry to another casting session, albeit a mercifully short one. After that, I shall come home and relax and do all sorts of things that need doing. We’re officially announcing our new title at midnight. Also, I found out that the little fun gift that comes with the new novel will be here by Friday, and I will have all the packages addressed and ready to go out that afternoon.

Tomorrow, I have a work session with the fellow who’s recording the demo of the long musical – we’re laying the tracks of the seven songs we’re recording. I’m hoping that won’t take all day, as I have way too much stuff to do. Thursday, I have to have meetings and do errands and whatnot, and then Friday we’re putting the vocals on the demo. And at some point this weekend, I’ll be supping with my friend Maura and the lovely Charmian Carr – I’m looking forward to that, that much I can tell you.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do some sort of jog, attend a short casting session, and then do other stuff, after which I’ll try to eat something amusing. Today’s topic of discussion: I can’t really think of a topic – I’ve got a raging headache, you know – so, let’s do an oldie-but-goodie – What’s the first rock-and-roll song you ever heard? Where did you hear it? Did you like it? And what was the first rock-and-roll record you ever bought? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I try to sleep off this raging headache.
