NINE VERY HEAVY BOXES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am very excited to tell you that my copies of the new book (in hardcover) have arrived. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, my copies of the new book (in hardcover) have arrived. I’m hoping we can get the CD pressed pretty quickly and if we do I’m hoping we can ship on Monday or Tuesday. It’s a small run, they don’t have to package them in jewel cases, so it’s all dependent on how fast they can get the stamper made – I should have a better idea later today. The books came in nine very heavy boxes. Nine Very Heavy Boxes – that’s the title of my next novel, an existentialist, minimalist, nihilist story of fruit. What the HELL am I talking about? In any case, we lugged the nine very heavy boxes to the motor car, but them in the trunk, and drove them to the home environment. I must say, it’s a very handsome book. Prior to the nine heavy boxes, I had a very heavy day. I woke up at ten – that was heavy. Then the helper arrived and we packaged up quite a few orders, put postage on them, then discussed how we were going to organize everything in the dining room. Then we went and had a spot of lunch at Hugo’s, after which it was on to Costco and Staples. I bought some waters, some Diet Coke, some Fruity Snacks, and some biscotti at Costco. At Staples we bought some plastic drawer things and a plastic filing thing. Then we went to the mail place and got the nine heavy boxes, and then we came back to the home environment. It was too late to really get much organizing done, but we did manage to get rid of quite a few unseemly boxes that were stacked under my dining room cabinet thing. It looks very neat under there now. So, on the helper’s next visit, we’ll organize all the forms and the inks and the various and sundried shipping supplies. We’re also going to clean out two drawers in the dining room cabinet thing, and that will give us some more room where we can put other stuff. After the helper left, I had to write the liner notes for our new BIG release. I did so and sent them off to the designer. We had to do some hunting for poster and photo material since the studio licensing us the title had nothing on this particular film. But we got some great stuff and all is well and well is all. I then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finished watching a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled The Blind Side. As I said in yesterday’s notes, I really wasn’t looking forward to the film and I thought I’d really not like it. But I ended up liking it quite a bit for several reasons. I liked the story. I liked the young man who played the lead – in fact, he should have been nominated for an Oscar for his performance – it was every bit as good as Sandra Bullock. Miss Bullock, of whom I’m not much of a fan, really did a good job in this. She’s like a woman I once knew – and if you watch the extras and see the real woman whose story it is, she really captured her perfectly. But every role is well cast. Also, I liked that the director just put the camera down and shot the film simply with none of the “now” crap I hate so much. The screenplay got a little silly at times, but I just liked the whole movie – it was touching, funny, and it moved along at a steady clip. In fact, I liked it better than Push: Based on the novel Shove by Diamond. The transfer is lovely.

After I finished the motion picture on Blu and Ray, I came back to the computer and approved the cover and inlay for our new release – they look really great. I ate some Fruity Snacks, too, which were fruity.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I have a lot to do and I must get my beauty sleep.

Today, I have a bunch of errands and whatnot to attend to, and then I’m driving out to Mystery and Imagination books to give them the new book and to set up my first signing for this book. Then I have an afternoon meeting that will probably last for a while, and then I can relax and watch a motion picture or two.

Tomorrow I have a lunch meeting and other stuff, Friday I have a lunch meeting and other stuff, and I’ve been invited to see The 39 Steps at the Ahmanson, which I’ll probably say yes to. And then it will be the weekend, which I’m quite looking forward to.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a bunch of errands and whatnot, I must set up my first signing, and I must have an afternoon meeting. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I rest my weary bones from lugging nine very heavy boxes.
