Well, dear readers, I don’t know about you, but I’m sort of enjoying my long weekend. Sort of because I have been working almost non-stop, and that must come to a full stop because this is a holiday weekend and I should be relaxing and enjoying, not going and doing. Oh, I have had some fun, but mostly I spent yesterday getting things done for our next release. I finished the liner notes, wrote the blurb, got the audio samples to the web guy, and prepared everything for Monday’s launch. I also printed out a whopping thirty orders that came in from late Friday and yesterday. Of course, I can’t send them until I get boxes on Tuesday – at which point I’ll get them all addresses and out of here, along with the Stu Phillips CDs. I got several e-mails praising the new Promises, Promises mix, and there were several wonderful postings about it on various message boards. And, of course, just because people like to, a few nitpicks about the packaging. I don’t mind the nitpicks, but really, the music’s the thing. I stopped by Mystery and Imagination to say hey to the owners – we had a very nice chat, after which I picked up one tiny little package and one tiny piece of mail. And when all was said and done it was time to have some dinner. I went to an Eyetalian jernt with a friend – I never remember the name of it (and actually I’ve only been there once before), but it’s the same location that used to house one of my favorite restaurants ever – Maison Gerard. It looks basically the same, only instead of French you get Eyetalian, and Eyetalian that’s trendy, with odd ingredients in almost every dish. However, I’m pretty good at sussing out the best thing to order and I did – a pasta with a light tomato-cream sauce with hot ground sausage, peas, and pecorino. It wasn’t totally great, but it was very good, as was their Caesar salad. After dinner, I was quite full of foodstuffs, and then I came home and did a few more things on the computer, before sitting on my couch like so much fish.
Last night, I really didn’t have time to watch a motion picture all the way through, but I did begin watching something called Salt and Pepper on the DVR. It stars that great comedy team of Peter Lawford and Sammy Davis, Jr. and so far it’s not so hot, even though the writer is Michael Pertwee, who’s usually pretty good. I’ll finish it up and then have more comments. I’ve also been reading the new book on Karen Carpenter – as with most biographies I read, it’s just a bunch of stuff slapped together by someone who was a fan and wanted to tell the real story. Hence, it’s not really written very well, it’s not very compelling, and at times it’s downright irritating. But, I loved Karen Carpenter, so I’m interested in the information being presented.
After that, I just sat at the computer staring at the screen, tired from the non-stop work that today will come to a full stop. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below as the first step to a full stop.
Today, I shall try to do no work at all, other than printing out whatever orders may come in and addressing fifty boxes, which shouldn’t really take more than forty minutes. Otherwise, I just want to play. I want to sleep late. I want to watch a motion picture or three, and then I shall attend a 4th of July partay down the street, and then I’ll probably watch the fireworks from in front of my house. I got an last-minute invite to another partay at David Wechter’s, but I’ve already committed to the one down the street. Full stop.
Tomorrow, I announce the new Kritzerland title first thing in the morning, then the rest of the day is mine all mine – and I’m having a lunch with dear reader Jeanne at two.
This coming week is a busy one – work resumes in earnest on Tuesday with the shipping of the Stu Phillips CDs and whatever Promises orders are going out. I have several meetings and meals, and I’m starting to really plan out the first of the Kritzerland at the Gardenia shows. I’ll be asking the next two performers this week and I’m hoping they’ll both be available. We shall see. Full stop.
