IN LIVING COLOR

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m a little bored of black-and-white notes, aren’t you? We’ve had more black-and-white notes than you can shake a stick at and I know this because I just shook a stick. I would like to have some color notes, wouldn’t you? Notes in color – that’s the ticket. Brilliant Technicolor notes. But it cannot happen due to our antiquated design and software. Our design and software is older then Methuselah, who, if you must know, lived nine hundred years. We have been pondering a whole new look for years but my designer never quite does anything about it because it’s a little daunting, as I insist that all archives – notes and board – be saved and available. I do think that will be a project for early next year. Where was I? Oh, yes, notes in color. If we had fancy-shmancy new software we could do anything we damn well please, including notes in color. Well, I hope we do our redesign and get the latest software before I’m older than Methuselah, who, if you must know, lived nine hundred years. I FEEL like I’m nine hundred years old right now, due to lack of sleep. I woke up feeling not great but it’s all due to lack of sleep. Damn them, damn them all to hell. I shall think good and positive stay well thoughts and stay well I shall. Damn them, damn them all to hell.

We shipped out a lot of CDs yesterday morning, after which I had to hie myself to a work session with Miss Alet Taylor and Mr. John Boswell – this session was to just sing through all the material from A Broadway Love Story, which is our next Gardenia show with Alet flying solo. We adjusted keys for her and so now John will make her a CD to rehearse with. That took about two hours, then I went to the mail place where I finally picked up the replacement debit card (hallelujah!) and no important envelope (hopefully today). Then I came home, activated the card, and began re-doing all the auto pay things, which took a really long time. I then did the four-mile jog, then had a visit with our very own Mr. Nick Redman – we exchanged items – he got the latest Kritzerland stuff, and I got two DVDs and two CDs. I was then about to faint from hunger so I moseyed on over to Hugo’s and had some pasta papa and a small Caesar salad, both fine and very filling. Then I came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I began watching the new Blu and Ray of The Caine Mutiny but immediately fell asleep for an hour, so I’ll get back to that anon. Then I finished watching a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Thelma and Louise. I hadn’t seen it since it first came out. It’s a very enjoyable little film with really good performances from Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis as the title characters. It was a defining film of the early 1990s, much like Easy Rider was back when it came out. There’s one man-bashing scene too many, however, and I really wish the scene with the cop towards the end of the film were cut – it’s so badly written and the poor actor is hung out to dry being asked to do something someone in his position would never do, especially when the two women keep apologizing and telling him they’re not going to hurt him. But, I guess they all thought it was fun and funny to see a cop whimper like a baby – it’s too easy and it follows another scene with a gross trucker and how many of those do we really need? We get it. The transfer looks very nice – I don’t always love Ridley Scott’s movies, but this one is very well done and it has an interesting Hans Zimmer score that works quite well in the film.

After that, I got everything to the web guy for Monday’s announcement, which I guess I’ll announce here this evening after I post the notes. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get some sort of beauty sleep before she of the Evil Eye arrives all too soon. And in living color.

Today, I shall do an early jog, I shall do errands and whatnot, I shall hopefully pick up an important envelope, I shall relax, I shall attend a little partay for the LA Festival of New Musicals – I really don’t want to, but its head person personally invited me so I’ll go and stay an hour or so. It starts at four. After, I’ll be supping with Melody and her folks and her grandma. Don’t have a clew as to where we’ll be supping.

Tomorrow, I really have to relax and clear Ye Olde Heade. I also have to do new liner notes (trying to get ahead on these), and I’ll jog and eat and watch a motion picture, I’m sure. The new week is busy – I have to record some talking, we have to finish up Melody’s CD, and we’ll finalize the first two episodes of the web series – the editor has already begun cutting the third. Then I have to finish casting one role, set the ensemble, find a camera person and do one shoot right after the Gardenia show and one on the 14th of October.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the four-mile jog, I must do errands and whatnot, I must hopefully pick up an important envelope, I must attend a partay, and I must sup. Today’s topic of discussion: When did you get your very first television and, if it was black-and-white, when did you get your first color TV. And what is the first show you can remember watching in color? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall dream in living color.
