CHEESY NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here listening to some fun Johan Strauss music courtesy of Eugene Ormandy, CD number 43 of 120. Recently we’ve had wonderful recordings of the Rachmaninov second symphony, the Tchaikovsky sixth, the Brahms first, and some Debussy. I did take a little break to listen to a few homegrown CDs I found in the garage, including a ton of Billy Goldenberg complete scores from Columbo and other film and TV shows. I’ve had these for years now but haven’t listened to them in ages, like eighteen years. And as seems to happen a lot lately, I found something I’ve been looking for for a solid three weeks now, everywhere – couldn’t find it. Today, I open this box just because it happened to be in front of me, the homegrown CDs, and there it was. So, that was good. And before that, I did finish watching Shock Corridor, starring Peter Breck and Constance Towers. Pure Sam Fuller from start to finish. I don’t like it quite as much as the following year’s The Naked Kiss, but it’s still so unique and weird you just can’t take your eyes off it. I’d love to attend a screening of both films held especially for the Woke PC darlings – they’d be triggered every four seconds and call for both films to be cancelled immediately, at least they’d post about it on Facebook. Other than that, I basically did a whole lot of nothing, with an occasional foray into actually doing something.

Yesterday was the day I needed it to be. I got eight hours of sleep, got up, answered a lot of e-mails, got some tracks, made some adjustments and got those to singers, then had a really fun Zoom rehearsal with one of the Kritzerand performers, one who used to do quite a few of our shows, but who moved to New York years ago. We’ve missed her so it’s great to have her back to do a couple of songs. After that, I ascertained there was nothing to pick up at the mail place, so I listened to music, ordered two chicken breasts and attendant wings from the California Chicken Café. They arrived not too long after and they threw in an extra wing. This was a very good batch, and I ate it all up and it was, as always, calorie and carb friendly – VERY friendly. I had a telephonic conversation, made a list I didn’t really feel like making and sent it off and hopefully we can now figure out exactly what we’re doing.

Then I watched the rest of Shock Corridor, after which I did a quick Gelson’s run, since I didn’t think that two chicken breasts was enough food for a day. I got a little bit of creamed spinach, some muenster cheese slices, and some mixed nuts – cashews, almonds, and pistachios. Zero fat grams for the nuts, so I had the creamed spinach and some of the nuts. I’m saving the muenster cheese for another day. I also tried a new Sparkling Ice flavor – strawberry watermelon – very refreshing. In fact, I have yet to be disappointed in any of the flavors. Looking forward to trying the other new flavor I got, Crisp Apple.

And then, I just listened to music – some homegrown stuff, then some Ormandy. And now playing is one of the CDs I’ve most looked forward to hearing – Hershey Kay’s wonderful put-together of Gottschalk tunes into the ballet Cakewalk. It’s so wonderful in great mono sound. It has its original coupling, Morton Gould conducting his Fall River Legend ballet, which I love, and this is one of its best recordings.

Here’s some stuff I found in storage – the posters can be had – help pay for the horrendously expensive mood. Just PM me. First up, a signed Ruthless poster – signed by the cast and the writer/director and others. All signed to me.  There weren’t a lot of these made.

And then, a signed Moon Over Buffalo – we were in NY recording the Randy Graff album and she and I were getting along like a house afire, just having a wonderful time. She was in the show with Carol Burnett and invited me to see it, introduced me to Carol and it was really fun. Then, my birthday happened just as we finished the session, so Randy gifted me this, signed by her and Carol.

Finally, I was gifted this wonderful The King and I poster when I wrapped the session, signed by its two stars with lovely sentiments – Donna Murphy and Lou Diamond Philips.

Finally, I found this adorable original drawing by Lindsay Ridgeway – she did this at the recording session and presented it to me. I think she was all of eight or nine. This I’ll hang somewhere as it’s just too adorable.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, hopefully get more tracks done and to the singers, set a few more Zoom rehearsals, hopefully pick up some packages, eat, finish choosing songs – still two to go, I think, and I really have to lock down the elusive guest, who said he’d do it and has not communicated since. After all that, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, I’ll be having a meal with our very own Robert Yacko – he’ll get all his Indiegogo stuff, so that’s good, and it will be fun to catch up on stuff. He had some of those side effects from his second shot, but he’s past them now and it’s two weeks on. So glad I had none. Saturday, I have no real plans other than some Zoom rehearsals, and Sunday is, of course, Mother’s Day, at least I think it is.

All right, I have succumbed to the muenster cheese and am having some slices. It’s really one of my all-time favorite cheeses. Cheese has zero carbs but it’s not exactly calorie friendly, but I’m still fine for the day.

Next week is all Kritzerland show stuff and a plethora of other things to do, including another trip to the storage place to get those sixty boxes down to the basically empty unit. I’m sure I’ll keep that fourth unit for a couple of months, but my hope is to really clear out the third unit that has my personal stuff. I’m going to be absolutely merciless in tossing stuff, and if I can get that unit to half of what it is now, then the excess CD stuff can fit in there and I can let the fourth unit go.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, get more tracks to singers, set Zoom rehearsals, hopefully pick up some packages, eat, finish choosing songs, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite cheeses – in foods, to snack on, to have on crackers – let’s have some really cheesy postings. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had come cheesy notes.
