May 3, 2019:

A MOST MUSICAL DAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had us a very good second rehearsal. We had everyone with us, so that was fun.  I think the material really works and it seems like the show structure is sound. Everybody was almost off-book for the songs.  I just love sitting and listening to wonderful singers.  I gave a few notes and that was that.

Last up was Peyton Kirkner, and when we were through, she and her mom and I moseyed on over to Barone’s for dinner and a conversation. Peyton and I had the scampi (her favorite dish) and mom had the spaghetti with meat sauce.  The conversation mostly centered around a project that Peyton will be doing next February, a play by Doug Haverty that I’ll be directing at the Group Rep.  It’s a large role, not an easy one, but she’s up for it and excited.

After that, I came home, listened to music, answered e-mails, and relaxed.

Prior to all that, I’d thankfully gotten nine-and-a-half hours of very needed sleep.  Once up, I printed out a few orders, answered e-mails, had telephonic conversations, and then I picked up but one package and no mail and came right home.  Then shortly thereafter it was time for rehearsal. So, even though it was a pretty full day and evening, there’s really not much to say about it.  Oh, I could tell you that I listened to a really beautiful short fifty-five-minute opera called The Brothers by George Antheil.  I really didn’t know what to expect, but what I didn’t expect was something so seriously beautiful in terms of melodic content.  I was bowled over by it, frankly, and the singers were great and so was the conductor and band.  I have really become hooked on Antheil in the past four weeks.

I could also tell you about discovering the four marvelous symphonies of Albert Roussel.  I had a couple of shorter bits by him, but I hadn’t really heard them in forever, so after hearing one, which was quite delightful, I decided to explore the symphonies and they’re just wonderful.  Very French and very accessible.

Today, I can sleep in again.  Then I’ll hopefully pick up packages, eat 1000 calories or thereabouts, and my lunch meeting got pushed to Monday.  I’m sure I’ll watch something or other, but mostly I want to relax.

Tomorrow is our stumble-through.  Prior to it she of the Evil Eye will be here so I have to go do things, then after the stumble-through I have to relax and rest my voice. Sunday is our sound check and then we do our show.  I’m hoping we can get at least ten more people to see it, but we’re fighting another event or two, which is really annoying, one of them especially so. Monday, I’ll have that rescheduled lunch meeting, then we do a run-through of the revue.  Tuesday, we have sound check for that, and then we play that show. And then I go to work on the June show plus the fundraiser cabaret show for the Group Rep. And I prep the next release or two for Kritzerland.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, sleep in, hopefully print out orders, hopefully pick up packages, eat, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player?  I’ll start – CD, Roussel and Antheil.  Blu-ray, Yanks.  Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a most musical day.
