A DAY OF MOSTLY REST AND RELAXATION OR NO IRRITATION ALLOWED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, our second Kritzerland rehearsal was ever so much fun.  Some lyrics still to be cemented but everyone is in very good shape.  We had Bruce Vilanch with us for the first time, and his song, a cut song from I Had a Ball, which he just did a staged reading of in New York, is really cute and funny and, of course, we’ve opened it up in the middle for him to do a couple of minutes of Vilanch talk.  I just adore him.  Our ensemble, who are doing three What If parodies, is getting solid and I’d asked them to watch the videos from the production and to implement just a tiny bit of staging on each – and they’re doing just great.  So, a good time was had by all, and as always John Boswell is fun, funny and always completely on top of things.

Prior to that, I got a little less than eight hours of sleep.  I had a telephonic call that I kept short if not sweet, then I did my morning ablutions and computer stuff, then I went and had a cup of chicken noodle soup and a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich.  My voice has been a bit trashed so send lots of excellent vibes and xylophones for a nice, strong voice by show time.  Then we had our rehearsal, which ran a long time.  After that, I moseyed on over to Gelson’s and got some evening snacks, which I then came home and ate all up whilst doing things on the computer.  I wrote the blurb for Monday’s Kritzerland announcement and got all that prepared and the packaging is off to the printer and the CD is being mastered this weekend.  I also booked my hotel for the New York stay.  It’s one of those Quikbook things so you book and don’t pay and if I find anything cheaper I’ll just cancel and book that.

I must say I had a headache for much of yesterday.  I do not like headaches.  I do not like any aches.  But you know what takes my headache away immediately?  Watching our Kritzerland cast and hearing those glorious voices.  Giving direction to Sami Staitman and watching her now have the ability to not only take it but implement it instantly.  This little girl has grown so much in the two years we’ve worked together.  Watching and hearing Jenna Lea Rosen, who is just an amazing teenager.  I’m so glad they’re both coming east to do the Kritzerland shows.  I’ve been figuring out who is going to do the east coast shows in November, but must wait a bit to hear about one of our males and one of our females.  There is now a chance that the entirety of both casts, save for one guest star, will be made up of folks who’ve done Kritzerland shows in LA.  And there’s something about that I like.

Today I am hoping to do nothing but rest my weary bones but mostly my voice.  I do have to have at least one short telephonic call but otherwise I will return calls on Monday.  I’ll definitely jog at some point and I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, but otherwise I’ll just play on the computer and sit on my couch like so much fish.

Tomorrow is our stumble-through and I’m sure some of us will sup afterwards.  Sunday is our sound check, then our matinee, then a short break, then our evening show.  I will, of course, have a full report for you.  Monday I rest a bit, Tuesday I’m recording the Scent of Mystery/Holiday in Spain commentary track, and I’m sure I’ll be spending an evening or two comping the Sandy vocals.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, rest, jog, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and rest some more.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player?  I’ll start – CD, who the HELL knows?  Blu and Ray, Truffaut’s The Soft Skin is up next.  Your turn.  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall arise and greet my day of rest.
