THE GLASS SUNDAE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am about to check out of the hotel and be on my way back to the Valley. However, I must go somewhere this morning, and then I’ll head back to the home environment, which should be inhabitable by noon, or so I’ve been told. I spent most of yesterday attending to details that are move-related, i.e. switching gas and DWP service to the new address, and stuff like that. I’m supposed to get the key to the house somewhere between noon and three, and then I must go to a rehearsal for the new song at four. We’ll run it a few times and also light it. Then, depending on the performance of it and the comfort of the performer, I’ll make a decision as to whether it’s going in or not. Then I’ll come back and actually try to take a few things over to the new house in advance of Thursday morning’s move. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Last night, dear reader Pogue and I went to the new Schwab’s on Sunset and Vine. We both had a salad, which was uneventful, and we both had meat loaf and mashed potatoes, which was actually really excellent. We had a very nice waitress (and actress – natch) and she introduced us to another waitress who, in the small world department, is a friend of our very own Theresa Finamore, who has appeared on two of my albums. I invited them to see What If, and they’ll be coming a week from Friday. Afterwards, we ordered hot fudge Sundae’s from the “new” C.C. Brown’s. As Jose has pointed out, there is no signage to tell you it exists – it’s just sort of an ice cream bar, but there’s a C.C. Brown’s menu lying there. They did us a favor and served it to us in Schwab’s, which I gather they don’t normally do. The sundaes are served in martini glasses with a silver urn of hot fudge on the side. I immediately missed the silver cups and the brown ceramic urn, but you can’t have everything. The man asked if we wanted nuts with the sundae and I informed him if he had to ask that question that he shouldn’t call himself C.C. Brown’s. In any case, the sundaes arrived, we poured out some hot fudge and dug in. I thought it was quite tasty but not perfection as in days of old. I think the ice cream is not as good, at least that’s what my taste buds told me. And half-way through the sundae, I stuck my spoon in to get another bite, the martini glass toppled over and broke. I think that’s going to happen a lot, and our advice to them was to use plastic. So, I only ended up eating half a sundae. I was almost tempted to keep eating, but I did take a bite from what I thought was a “clean” section, and I found myself chewing on some glass (no harm done – found it right away and got rid of it). Glass sundaes are not my cup of tea, frankly or even georgely. Of course, how could they be my cup of tea? What does a sundae, glass or otherwise, have to do with a cup of fershluganah tea, that’s what I’d like to know. In any case, I’m sure I’ll be back to have more of that yummilicious meat loaf, and I’m sure I’ll be having more hot fudge sundaes, but hopefully not more glass sundaes.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below, for I have to get crackin’.

I picked up the DVDs to I Married a Monster from Outer Space and Come Back, Little Sheba. I don’t know that I’ll get to either before the move, but maybe I’ll be able to watch one tomorrow night.

I took a really nice long walk along the route that Benjamin Kritzer used to walk, down Hollywood Blvd. to Vine and back. It’s a pretty sad state of affairs in the neck of Hollywood. I wish some billionaire would just buy it all up and renovate those beautiful empty movie theaters, and install wonderful restaurants and interesting shops all up and down the street. It could be so wonderful.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must go somewhere this morning, then I must deal with house issues, then rehearsal, then hopefully moving some stuff early, then relaxing on my sofa like so much fish. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any other dear reader any question you like and we get to answer them with any answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers, not to mention loads of lovely postings, and try not to eat any glass sundaes.
