They were trying to get me in to an OR that night but since they were concerned that teh feeding tube might cause a complication and force a full entry rather than lathroscopic (sp?) they wanted to have two surgeons on hand and couldn't manage that until around  one the next day.

(Thankfully they were able to do the less invasive procedure)

Somebody put something wonderful in my IV they put me a hospital room and I blessedly fell asleep

My favorite childhood TV shows were THE LONE RANGER, SUPERMAN, CHEYENNE & HIGHWAY PATROL, which was produced by my cousin, Fred Ziv.

We are currently watching season 1, disc 3 of CHEYENNE.  I'm really enjoying Clint Walker.  He is beautiful to listen to and watch.

I've been watching CHEYENNE every night on the Encore Westerns channel.  This was my favourite show as a youth.

I was released on Saturday but sitting up straight has been a bit of an effort so I have not made it to the computer until today and teh Vixter has been waiting on me hand and foot all weekend.

So I understand I in for another "vacation" of 2 weeks or so.  I see the surgeon on Thursday and will know more then

TOD:

I'm mot sure if local Philadelphia station KYW was the home or the original EVENING MAGAZINE or not, but I did the show when it first began.  The stories were strictly local to the Philly region.  And they twice covered theatre productions done at my college, Rutgers/Camden.  Eventually, as the show began being produced in other markets, someone decided that it would be cheaper to homoginize the features across the board, so the show slowly lost its local flavor.

There's a Seattle version of "Evening Magazine."  I had no idea that it wasn't original to Seattle.

Re: Amos 'n' Andy:
I remember that series well. It was a real favorite in my family. I concur with Jane. Although it would be politically incorrect now, I do feel that it gave many whites a sense of black family life--and rather affectionately.

Jane, thanks for the restaurant recommendations. El Cholo is a name I haven't heard in a great many years. I recall going there once; a friend loved it and took me there. I'd forgotten all about it.

Thanks to Jose, too. I'll look for the falafel place on Santa Monica. It shouldn't be far.

For some reason, I thought the soundtrack album for UP THE DOWN STAIRCASE was on United Artists even though the film was Warners. My memory could easily be playing tricks on me, however. I have the LP downstairs.

I thought the same thing about him when I watched THE DIRTY DOZEN on Blu-ray a couple of weeks ago. The man was some kind of gorgeous and that voice was unmistakable.

Lunch was late and ran long. I didn't have nearly enough time to get everything watched this afternoon that I wanted to.

I did get my work project finished. I watched THE UNINVITED, a horror thriller from earlier in the year.

No wonder it wasn't more successful; it's a derivative of about every horror thriller for the last 30 years but especially Tom Tryon's THE OTHER. I understand it was actually something of an Americanized remake of a Korean film but with a fair amount of rewriting to smooth over patches in the Korean movie that the producers, directors, and screenwriter didn't feel worked right. They needed to keep writing. Parts of it still cheated with the story and were irritating. Other parts were just dull. It was only 87 minutes long, but it felt longer than that to me.

As for the Topic of the Day...

The only shows that comes to mind are a series of various programs and briefs spots that featured Dick Dyszel, otherwise known as "Captain 20". They ran on Channel 20, WDCA in Washington, DC.  It was sort of like a version of Bozo the Clown but for a slightly older audience.  Captain 20 would host the afternoon block of programming which was "dominated" by "Star Blazerrs" for the longest time.

I loved "Star Blazers!"  I used to watch this in the morning before I went to middle school.  A few years ago, I bought the complete imported DVD sets.  They included the original Japanese audio tracks and no English tracks at all, but they did include English subtitles.  It's very interesting to see how the broadcast English language version was edited.  The original Japanese version was much racier. ;) Here's picture of the version that I got:

I also had time to watch the three bonus features on the disc: a behind-the-scenes documentary, some deleted scenes, and an alternate ending (which didn't work nearly as well as the one in the final film).

I had about six minutes left in the afternoon and started AS THE WORLD TURNS thinking I'd just skim through it to the previews, but there were the boys, so I had to stop it and will pick it up when I go back down later.

I'll probably spend the evening before BONES watching the things I recorded last night and didn't get to: THE TUDORS and LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT.

I've asked about Up The Down Staircase and they can't license it because they have no paperwork on it - too bad.  Not quite ready to reveal the soundtrack title, but will reveal the show title tomorrow.

TOD

No TV then folks, radio!

Favorite local show was the Magic Lady Supper Club - whose frequent guest singer was a local Jewish boy named Eddie Fisher.

When local TV finally make its debut, one channel did stay on past the 11 o'clock news to show a late night movie; to pay the bills they had a young man hawking dinnerware - his name was Dick Ckark. That local channel also hosted an Afternoon show called "Bandstand".

To help us all keep track of TV shows, the local paper (The Philadelphia Inquirer) put out a local Sunday supplement called TV GUIDE.

;D He didn't do it to us, we have watched a number of the old shows.  C. Pogue is lucky to get all the episodes of Cheyenne. NetfFlix only has the first season.
