Well, you've read the notes, the notes were full of comfort and joy, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're coming to town, too, but are waiting until Santa Claus is through.
-
And the word of the day is: JENTACULAR!
-
MERRY CHRISTMAS all you dear dear people out there in the dark.
-
And a Very Merry Christmas To You Too!
-
OH!
And it's "snowing" on my blog (http://josespiano.wordpress.com/). :)
-
And to all a good night...
Goodnight.
-
DR George i'm just catching up on last night's late posts. And your suggestion of ice cream topping (for the soft fudge) was my mom's suggestion too.
Jennifer, what about using it as a fondue? That could be very good! :D
What exactly is fondue?
I put in the freezer because it set similarly the second time. But i want to use it. Because it did taste amazing.
"What exactly is fondue?" I'm sure that Jose (if he doesn't mind) could give you more information, but here's the definition:
1. a saucelike dish of Swiss origin made with melted cheese and seasonings together with dry white wine, usually flavored with kirsch: served as a hot dip for pieces of bread.
2. a dish of hot liquid in which small pieces of food are cooked or dipped: beef fondue; chocolate fondue.
It's delicious...you could dip pieces of fruit like strawberries or banana into the melted fudge or even pieces of cake.
-
And here is the photographic proof of the Christmas Do. First we have the mushrooms, personally sliced by me.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/whitesheik/photo.jpg)
-
Then we have the garlic, personally chopped and minced by me.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/whitesheik/photo-1.jpg)
-
Next we have a lovely grouping of people. From left to right: PennyO, Druxy, Mrs. Druxy (Sandy), John Holly, and his friend, whose name I don't remember.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/whitesheik/photo-2.jpg)
-
Please note the clean plates.
-
Next we have the couch, on which I usually sit like so much fish. However, in this grouping we have, left to right, former dear reader Panni, Miss Patti (standing behind her), and Noel.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/whitesheik/photo-4.jpg)
-
Note the clean plates.
-
Next we have the Kritzerland booklet designer, Mr. Doug Haverty, and my very own svelte self.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/whitesheik/photo-6.jpg)
-
Next we have a bemused-looking Noel.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/whitesheik/photo-5.jpg)
-
And finally we have Mike Lonzo (a nice guy from the Film Score Monthly messageboard, where he posts under the name Manderley) and his partner Rick.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/whitesheik/photo-3.jpg)

Love the pictures, BK! Thanks for posting them. ;D

-
Thanks, DR Tomovoz!!! :D What date is it where you are? ;)
-
Although the pasta has made me completely logey and I feel like I've gained forty pounds. Hopefully all will be well in the morning.
-
Will we never get to page two?

I will singlehandedly take us to page two.

Home from mass. Been checking email & having chai & brandy instead of going to bed. I have to get up & sing again in the morning, but I need the drink.

In addition to being super busy w/ work, choir, school, 2 weddings & now 3 deaths this year, my internet connection has been spotty. Freaking wifi can kiss my large, pasty behind.
Work is still at the Manhattan Beach Arts Center. School is medical coding. The weddings were my dad & a best friend from high school--I was her maid of honor. The deaths were a co-worker/friend from the haunted house I used to work at, a friend from the SoCal RHPS scene & of course, my tubby tabby Rusty. Very bittersweet year. Oh, & there's a new BOY. He's not a BOYFRIEND, but the potential is there.
-
It seems i have some posting to make up for, but the brandy is hitting, fortunately.

The Norad Santa Tracker says that Mr. C is in Maui. Lucky him!

Helloooo - back from a day at the church. Midnight Mass was great, I think we pulled everything off well. Tomorrow, I have two mass' in the morning and then Christmas can begin - at about 11:30am or something like that. For now, it's time for bed. Merry Christmas to all... God Bless Us Everyone!

Merry Christmas, One & All!
Good morning, all! Randy and Jo fought the temptation to come in and juimp on my bed at 7:30 am while yeling "let's open presents!" and I am so glad they did! It will be a day of family with the three of us and my various nephews, nieces, and Riley and Jayden, and I look forward to it immensely.
Last night, I had a wonderful dinner with some dear friends, my friend Loyce, her sister Maryrose, her niece Nicole and her gentleman friend Gordon. It was great to see them all and the company and dinner were fantastic.
BK, some Dec 24 I hope I can surprise you and show up for the Big Do; it was nice to see this year's photos.
DR singingnymph, I'm really sorry for your loss, but I have my hopes up for the new man in your life.
I'll be back later but I want to wish each of you a wonderful day.
-
Thanks For The Pictures BK

-
So sorry to hear about your kitty, DRsingingnymph.
-
Many thanks for the photos, BK. I appreciate them all. It's nice to see DR Penny-O, former DR Panni and occasional DR Noel looking so cheerful and fit and healthy.
Thanks for the photos of Mike and Rick, too. "Manderley" is one of my favorite "people/posters" at FSM Messageboard.
-
Lovely pictures from the do!
Congrats to DR SWW on his plateau!
-
Looks like a fun time was had by all at the Do last night (along with lots of spaghetti!)
-
DR singingnymph, I'm also sorry to read about Rusty.
-
I think I conceived an idea for a new Christmas cookie last night--a Rum Ball with a chocolate liqueur filling. I just need to formulize a recipe and then come up with a catchy name.

It'll be a lovely little food festival. Loads of food, but not the usual crowded full house.
The good part of that is we'll probably all be able to fit around the table, which should be very nice.

And thank YOU for mentioning one of my all-time favorite novelty songs by the great Ms. Brice! What a treat to finally see it performed in the film it was written for this past year. I ought to take that DVD down again and watch it at some point over the weekend.
-
Good Morning and Merry Christmas!
It rained overnight and I thought it might be a gloomy Christmas day, but instead, the skies have cleared, it's warm outside, and it's positively glorious. I will be able to sit on my side porch today while lunch cooks and just enjoy the fresh air!
-
I had toyed with the idea of taking today off, but I want to finish that Rossellini box set, so I will watch the last film in the box today - BLAISE PASCAL. Supposedly, it's the best of the three films in the set, so I'm primed to get a bit more involved with the characters being pictured.
-
Enjoyed the pictures from the bk party, and always wonderful to see former DR Panni looking so chipper. I hope bk sends regards from many of us to her when he crosses paths with her.
-
On TV Tonight!™
NBC - DEAL OR NO DEAL
-
I haven't decided what I'll watch tonight for fun. I have stacks of various things (movies, TV box sets) that are as yet unopened, and I'd like to start making a dent in some of them.
I will watch another NCIS episode from the season 3 set as I eat lunch and before starting on my work project for the day.
-
Now, I'm going to hop off-line and play some computer games before heading downstairs to start on preparing some lunch.
WBBL.
-
Merry Christmas!
-
Good morning and Merry Christmas to everyone. We are hunkering down today and not doing much of anything. Yay!
MBarnum, that card screams 1962 to me for some reason. ;)
-
DR SINGINGNYMPH, I am sorry about your loss. Lovely photos of DC Rusty.
-
I'm not sure what i will do today.
I decided to eat lunch at 10am and have some crackers and shrimp mold and 7 layer dip. Then i ate my dessert from last night that i never ate (that my aunt made). She made an interesting mini cheese cake. It was white cake on the bottom. And soft cream cheese (that is how i like my cheese cake) on the top. Very good. And she also made some unknown cookie/brownie thing with chocolate chips. Very yummy.
I forgot i also have potato latkes. So when i get hungry i will have some of those.
-
I'll probably watch something. I have the 9 last episodes of TRUE BLOOD. And i also have the 2 hour finale of BOSTON LEGAL.
Not sure if i will read. I had wanted to start the 4th book of a series i am reading. But missed the call that the book came in tuesday night. So i can wait till saturday and start reading book 4 and 5.
Or if i want to read today (which i probably will) i can either start the HOUSE OF NIGHT series (i have the first 3 (marked, chosen, betrayed).
Or i can start book 2 of the Gemma Doyle Trilogy (Rebels and Angels is #2). I read book 1 but these books are only due jan 19th. So i may start the other one. Although i prefer to read one series through before starting another!
-
I think I conceived an idea for a new Christmas cookie last night--a Rum Ball with a chocolate liqueur filling. I just need to formulize a recipe and then come up with a catchy name.
How about Squirting Rum Balls?
-
The weather seems better today. No rain.
My niece had to be woken up at 8am to open her presents. She said she got a play dough ice cream maker. And some dora soccer game.
My sis also called to tell me that megan almost blabbed the gift i got to her cousin jessica (the gift i got jessica).
Last night when i gave megan the cupcake maker she was sad she could not play with it for 5 days till she got back from vacation. So i told her (not really think it would register) that i got one for her cousin jessica and that they could do hers togeter.
So this morning jessica calls her and megan says, "hey guess what my auntie got you ..." (and my sis put her hand to cover megan's mouth). :)
-
I just realized one thing my aunt used to always serve on Xmas eve that i have not had in years: EGGNOG!
-
Congratulations BK, on the successful Do. And I am so relieved that you decided to clean the plates before your guests got there.
-
Some good books I have read this year:
1) In Spite of Myself by Christopher Plummer (autobio)
2)The Amazing Maurice & His Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett (fiction)
3) The Night Watch by Terry Pratchett (fiction)
4) The Noel Coward Diaries
5) The Kenneth Tynan Diaries
6) National Service by Richard Eyre (his diaries when running the National Theatre)
7) Antony & Cleopatra by Colleen McCullough (fiction)
8) John Osborne by John Heilpern (bio)
9) Saint's Day by John Whiting (play)
10) Serjeant Musgrave's Dance by John Arden(play)
-
Harold Pinter died on Christmas Eve. Age 78.
-
Lovely party, BK!
-
I expect that The Little Orange Kitten is pouncing on torn paper and ribbons. :)
-
I never knew that DR Charles Pogue was also a Terry Pratchett fan. :)
-
45 minutes, not an hour but good still.
I'm wearing my new shirt from Lands End and I'm all refreshed.
I just put time on Anthony's Cell Phone for his Christmas present. While he was in the shower I signed on to the Web site and added his minutes. It worked out that just as he finished I finished and his phone rang and he saw his present.
Instead of a romantic present I give him a practical present, but that's just me. And he needs the minutes and he was very happy to see his phone full of time.
-
PAGE FOUR (4)!
-
And here we are on Page 4.
We need to finish the gifts for our Host and Hostess so I'll be going now.
Again, Happy Christmas (as my British friends say) to one and all.
And Happy 5th Day of Hanukkah to those who celebrate (tonight when you light the candles, that is).
-
Sad news regarding the death of Harold Pinter.
-
SingingNymph, sorry to hear about the passing of your kitty. He was a cutie kittie!
-
And now I really must go.
-
Nice Xmas eve pics.
Reading the TOD i realize i somehow forgot to read the notes.

MERRY CHRISTMAS
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u271/actr2000/christmas_glitter_241.gif)
TO ONE AND ALL!
-
td, I loves my Terry Pratchett. Funny, brilliant writer!
-
I borrowed Stan's truck yesterday, because my car is still snowbound (or should that be again?). I had to park it two blocks from the house last night, so that it wouldn't get stuck in the snow and ice. Naturally I fell and screwed up my back walking home.
-
re: the TOD, some of my favorite books that i've read in 2008 (it's hard to remember which ones i read this year):
*The Twilight series (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn).
*The Host
*Sophie Kinsella's Undomestic Goddess, Remember Me
*The Lucky One, Nicolas Sparks
*James Patterson, Sundays at Tiffanys
*A Great And Terrible Beauty, Libba Bray
*Queen of Babble Gets Hitched, Meg Cabot ( i love this series)
I really should keep track of what i've read during the year. Cause I've read a lot, but forget what i've read when.
-
Vibes for DR TCB! Do they sell those yak traks where you live? You put them on your boots and they make it so that you cannot fall on ice.

Vibes for DR TCB! Do they sell those yak traks where you live? You put them on your boots and they make it so that you cannot fall on ice.
I don't know if they do or not. I will have to look for them. Of course, if I hadn't been frightened by the rat that ran towards the house up the street, I probably wouldn't have fallen.
-
Vibes for DR TCB! Do they sell those yak traks where you live? You put them on your boots and they make it so that you cannot fall on ice.
BTW, thank you Jennifer for the vibes, but there are others who need them more than I do.
-
I'm up on this rainy Christmas morning. It's not raining hard so maybe it will stop long enough for me to do the long jog, which I can do anytime up until about three.
-
I guess I have a few presents to open.
-
SingingNymph, my heart goes out to you. So sorry for your loss.
-
Well, I had a lovely time at BK's partay!! So nice to greet old friends and new. I must say I haven't seen Bruce so fit and slender since we were all kidz in high school. What a beauty he is growing up to be!!!
-
Happiest of holidaze to all and sun-dried.
-
Lovely to meet Drux and Mrs. Drux last night - Please remind me of your novels, that I may purchase them from Amazon and read them during the long dark nights of winter! And, in return, I shall hype my own engrossing and hilarious novel...
-
But first - a nice breakfast of tofu.
-
td, I loves my Terry Pratchett. Funny, brilliant writer!
;D ;D ;D ;D
Which reminds me that I found MAKING MONEY to be a wonderful novel, too.
-
Oh - a book I really loved this year was Jonathan Tropper's The Book of Joe. Whatta great read!
-
Please note the clean plates.
We always have clean plates at our house.
(Buster! Fletcher! Get your noses out of there!)
-
But first - a nice breakfast of tofu.
Boy, PennyO, you really know how to celebrate!
-
But first - a nice breakfast of tofu.
My deepest sympathies.

Der B is wrapping presents.
I've peeled and steamed the pearl onions, and had better get the white sauce made.
-
Der B is wrapping presents.
Aren't you supposed unwrap presents on Christmas?
-
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
-
I'll trade someone the free DVD of their choice from my giveaway pile, now or in the future, if you have a Proof of Purchase from a Standard Def Sweeney Todd DVD lying around (it will be a little tab inside the box). I just realized I gave away my SD Sweeney Todd, and when I opened the BD, there's a money back coupon.
-
I'm making a relish tray for the small do I'm attending tonight. So, I'd better start cutting the celery and carrots now so I have time to stop bleeding before dinner!
-
Love you all. Back after a bit.
I'd better get me a mess of band-aids ready! And a heap of tape!
-
AMONG THE BOOKS I'VE READ THIS YEAR:
(At least, the one's I'd reccomend...)
Judith Jones: The Tenth Muse
Jeffrey Steingarten: It Must Have Been Something I Ate
Michael Ruhlman: The Elements of Cooking
James McNair: Build a Better Burger
And I'm currently reading John Mariani's The Dictionary of American Food and Drink.
-
Must get going. Have a happy, everyone.
-
Lovely to meet Drux and Mrs. Drux last night - Please remind me of your novels, that I may purchase them from Amazon and read them during the long dark nights of winter! And, in return, I shall hype my own engrossing and hilarious novel...
Always happy for an invitation to plug the book:
ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD: From the Secret Files of Harry Pennypacker.
Thanks.
Enjoyed meeting you, too.

Euphemism Balls?
Brown Cow Oysters?
-
My aunt and uncle are coming over in about 15 minutes for a simple Christmas day lunch of turkey, dressing, sweet potato souffle and peas.
Last night, we were gathered at cousin Debra's with her hubby Rob and son Chad (daughter Becky was working) for a steak supper! Very nice evening.
Santa was good to my mom and me. Somehow, his tastes match our own.
-
I have to say that TV is a "doldrums" this Christmas Day.
Only HGTV has managed to maintain my interest.
-
I've opened presents - had a few more than I usually do. Got some nice books, two nice shirts (always need shirts), a staple gun in the shape of a what is it fish, some CDs, a lobby card for Batman (the 60s version), and a few other nice things. It's a little pathetic opening Christmas presents by yourself, but I got over it.
-
I tried recording through my iPod this morning - played and sang at the piano - it got it done but the quality isn't very good at all - very muffled. So, I think I'll still use garage band.
-
The rain has stopped and it's not quite so gray out, so perhaps I'll gird my loins and do the long jog, even though it's quite chilly out. Actually, a jogger just passed my home, so I guess that's a sign.
-
My DS is sick today, so we will open the very few presents when he wakes up tonight.
-
I hope everyone is enjoying their day.
From OZ - Happy Boxing Day. (I think DR Jennifer will know and celebrate the holiday)
Happy St Stephen's Day. (Not a reference to Mr Sondheim as good King Wenceslas would have known)
-
I wonder if they sing about Good King Wenceslas in Portland OR. (Maybe that is not where the snow is deepest)
-
Happy Wrestling Day to our dear friends in Austria!
-
I just realized one thing my aunt used to always serve on Xmas eve that i have not had in years: EGGNOG!
Our neighbour's son provided the egg nog for us on Christmas morning. It is a wonder we could walk back up the drive.
-
If anyone would like a little special holiday music, Brasil '66 style, email me. They did a recording of Chestnuts (yes, I know what the REAL title is) that's never been released in its proper form on CD (some idiot edited Sergio's piano solo). I have reassembled the correct version and have it in MP3 format. It's quite charming, with a beautiful Richard Hazard orchestration, to boot.
-
Thank you DR from Lapland. Must be there - it's north of Oregon where they sometimes have snow.
-
Luckily we seem to finally be at least a little above freezing right now. When I went out to get the paper this morning, things were still quite icy. I can see puddles of water now.
-
I borrowed Stan's truck yesterday, because my car is still snowbound (or should that be again?). I had to park it two blocks from the house last night, so that it wouldn't get stuck in the snow and ice. Naturally I fell and screwed up my back walking home.

BTW, thank you Jennifer for the vibes, but there are others who need them more than I do.
TCB, vibes are like friends...there are enough for EVERYONE!! ;D
~~~Back Vibes for DR TCB!!~~~
-
Well, I'd better take a shower and get to my sister's house. I'm going to pick up my sister and niece, then we'll get my sister's boyfriend and we'll all go to my parents' house.
Have a great day, all! :D
-
I dressed to do the long jog and then it started to rain again. So, I'll stay in until it clears up again - IF it clears up again.
-
So, PennyO drop by and I'll give it to you.
When would be a good day/time??? I will enjoy seeing you again so soon.
For all o' ye, and Irish blessing (left over from me dehz ahz an Oirish leh-dee lahst wik):
May the blessing of light be on you,
Light without and light within.
May the blessed sunshine shine on you
And warm your heart till it glows like a great hearth fire,
So that the stranger may come and be warmed at it,
And also a friend.
And may the light shine out of the two eyes of you,
Like a candle set in the two windows of a house,
Bidding the wanderer come in out of the storm.
And may the blessings of rain be on you,
The soft, sweet rain.
May it fall upon your spirits so that all the little flowers
May spring up and shed their sweetness on the air.
And may the blessings of the Great Rains be on you,
May they beat upon your spirit
And wash it fair and clean,
And leave there many a shining pool
Where the blue of heaven shines,
And sometimes a star.
And may the blessing of the Earth b e on you,
The great round earth.
May you ever have a kindly greeting for those you pass
As you go along the roads.
May the earth be soft under you when you rest upon it,
Tired at the end of a day,
And may it rest easy over you when at the last,
You lay out under it;
May it rest so lightly over you
That your soul may be off from under it quickly
And up and off, and on its way to God.
And now may the Spirit of Life bless you all and bless you kindly.
I'll trade someone the free DVD of their choice from my giveaway pile, now or in the future, if you have a Proof of Purchase from a Standard Def Sweeney Todd DVD lying around (it will be a little tab inside the box). I just realized I gave away my SD Sweeney Todd, and when I opened the BD, there's a money back coupon.
I have one. How soon do you need it?
Thanks, Tony. No rush. Email me: jeffrey_kauffman@msn.com
I'll email you off board about what I have right now--but there's always more to come. :)
Getting set to watch A TASTE OF HONEY for the first time in a couple of decades.
Vibes for DR TCB! Do they sell those yak traks where you live? You put them on your boots and they make it so that you cannot fall on ice.
BTW, thank you Jennifer for the vibes, but there are others who need them more than I do.
I think i spelled them wrong. They are YAK TRAX.
And there are more than enough vibes for everyone.
-
These are them:
Or here are the yaktrax at QVC:
I have to say that TV is a "doldrums" this Christmas Day.
Yep although there is a new Christmas episode of Y&R later for me (in the US it will be shown tomorrow).
-
I borrowed Stan's truck yesterday, because my car is still snowbound (or should that be again?). I had to park it two blocks from the house last night, so that it wouldn't get stuck in the snow and ice. Naturally I fell and screwed up my back walking home.
TCB, vibes are like friends...there are enough for EVERYONE!! ;D
~~~Back Vibes for DR TCB!!~~~
Oh my gosh i wrote the same thing before reading your post!
-
I hope everyone is enjoying their day.
From OZ - Happy Boxing Day. (I think DR Jennifer will know and celebrate the holiday)
Happy St Stephen's Day. (Not a reference to Mr Sondheim as good King Wenceslas would have known)
Oh yes it is my favorite holiday!
Well actually i'm not sure if anyone here would say "happy boxing day". But it is a huge day here. I"m guessing the 26th must be a fairly big shopping day also in the US. But in Canada it is the biggest shopping day of the year! :)
-
I watched another episode of TRUE BLOOD (this show is VERY different from anything i've ever watched). And took a nap.
-
PennyO, I'm around writing and relaxing almost every day until the New Year.
-
About two minutes after I posted that it was raining, it wasn't raining. So, out I went to do the long jog. As soon as I started the sun came out and out it remained for the entire four miles. Not only that, it wasn't nearly as cold as it's been, so it was actually a rather pleasant jog, and lots of friendly people said Merry Christmas as I passed them, and there were almost no cars at all on the roads.
-
We're down to the last fifty Twisted Nerves. Tomorrow morning it will be sold out.
-
Thanks again for the vibes. Skipped morning mass to open presents with the family. Time to eat now!
-
It is a beautiful day here, and I did enjoy sitting on my porch for a little while and just breathe in the clean, fresh air. Lovely.
-
I watched an NCIS episode from season 3 as I ate lunch. Had to do with an identity switch, pretty clever plot, and I didn't guess the murderer.
-
I spent most of the afternoon watching BLAISE PASCAL, the bio of the great philosopher and mathematician. It was marginally better than the other two films in the box. This was a more traditionally filmed biography with characters other than the main character interacting and less standing in repose and talking for five minutes. There was some of that, to be sure, but it wasn't the entire film. There is an agonizingly LONG death scene that soured my enthusiasm for the movie just a bit.
-
And I concluded my afternoon with another NCIS episode, this one about two Marine wives running a porno website who were murdered. Another good one that fooled me.
-
I've made no decisions about what I'm watching tonight. I'm guessing MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS will be one of the films. Haven't decided which new film I'll put in. I'll decide later.
-
PennyO - I fixed your post so your book title was in the clear rather than part of his quote.
You have the ability to edit our posts? There's quite a backlog of Slingslaw's that need attention. ;)
Editing and deleting are two different functions! :D
-
Speaking of functions - why are we still on page six?
-
I'm listening to the soundtrack to The Tale of Despereaux - it's by William Ross, but if you didn't know that you'd swear it was by John Williams, which is, I'm sure, what this film was temp-tracked with.
-
Still, it's a nice soundtrack.
-
I think I'll watch some more Mannix episodes now, then I'll get ready for the party, then we'll see what time it is. I'll head out to Calabasas around five-fifteen.
-
One of the strangest Christmas Eve's I ever experienced was in Perth, Western Australia.
I was on USS Carl Vinson and we were making a port call during Christmas. I checked into a nice hotel and spent the afternoon sunbathing on a mostly deserted deck by the rooftop pool. At some point, there was a bit of excitement from across the pool but I didn't bother myself to investigate. Then, someone took occupancy of a deck chair near mine.
For the next hour, I was sunning beside Pat Boone who was in town doing a concert. Circa 1986, as I recall.
-
16 years ago, I spent Christmas Day on USS Kitty Hawk which was anchored off the coast of Somalia. One day later, we started sailing toward the Persian Gulf where we remained for about 10 weeks. We saw quite a bit of action as we were the "platform" for the U.S. launching air strikes against Saddam Hussein for violating the "no-fly" zone...part of his penance for the original Gulf War.
-
Mem'ries....light the corners of my mind...
Misty water-colored mem'ries, of the way we were...
Happy Christmas Down Under, Tomovoz!
-
Joyeux Noel, FDR François!
-
Where the HELL is Francois anyway?
-
In fact, where the HELL is everyone? You'd think it was Christmas or something.
-
Will we never get to page eight?
-
I can see it now....I'm going to be having an epiphany in just two days shy of a fortnight.
-
Will page eight never get to us?
-
I am my own frenzy.
-
Where the HELL is Francois anyway?
France, Europe, I think.
-
Now Tale Of Despereaux sounds like typical Hans Zimmer - so they must have temped this film with a whole slew of different composers, and poor Mr. Ross has to emulate them.
-
Now Tale Of Despereaux sounds like typical Hans Zimmer - so they must have temped this film with a whole slew of different composers, and poor Mr. Ross has to emulate them.
Hans Zimmer is one of the worst things EVER to happen to film music, IMO!
-
I thought of two more books that I should have thought of first:
Murder at the Grove
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
-
The days are getting longer, but not by much.
I think I shall watch some of the DVD's that DR ELMORE sent to me.
-
Have you noticed how the ads for Tale of Despereaux feature no (count 'em) pull quotes? Not a good sign.
-
That's unusual, since even total bombs end up using pull quotes from the most amateur online "reviewers".
-
I'm actually quite hungry.
-
But I'll wait for the partay.
-
That's unusual, since even total bombs end up using pull quotes from the most amateur online "reviewers".
I resemble that remark. :)
I mean the print ads, BTW--I think the TV spots do have some ridiculous quote like "family film" or something non-impressive like that from some fourth-tier site. :)
-
With the internet very quiet this afternoon, not much to read, so I'll finish writing up that review of BLAISE PASCAL and that set will be done.
Then, I'll head downstairs for some viewing fun.
WBBL.
-
I'm currently watching the Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency Season 2 christmas special. It was the last episode from season 2 that i had not seen.
It's very odd because one station here showed Season 3 last year. So i watched that. And now another station showed season 2 this year. I forgot some of the stuff i knew from S3 (i had never seen the show or any of the models before).
Hopefully i'll get to see Season 4 and not have to watch it on youtube.
-
My aunt called to say what she got for Xmas. And i told her how good the 2 dessert were that she made (i could have sworn she said she made them). It turns out she bought them. Oops.
But they were still really great.
For dinner i think i will have some latkes. And then sample the trifle (sp?) dessert my mom made yesterday which i did not get to try because i was so full.
-
Oh, and it's snowing.
-
Thanks, Bruce - as above, I am SUCH a spazz...
But such a lovely one! :-*
-
Thank you DR JMK.
The chestnuts were roasted successfully and most enjoyable indeed.
I wonder if will snow in Portland OR for Chrismas this year.
-
Thank you DR RLP for the greeting.
And for sharing your Boone memories.
-
That's unusual, since even total bombs end up using pull quotes from the most amateur online "reviewers".
I went to see it a couple of days ago. Great animation....bor-ing story. I walked out after an hour.
-
I thought of two more books that I should have thought of first:
Murder at the Grove
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Thank you.
-
DR TinselTown it is difficult to give you the exact date in Middle earth years (I live on the larger West Island).
In Middle Earth proper (New Zealand to some) it is about midday on December 26. In the land of OZ it is just after 9.00am on December 26.
-
Just got back from the movies.
We were going to see BENJAMIN BUTTON, but it was sold out, so we saw DOUBT instead.
Excellent.

Bummer! But now she's singing Santa Baby in Heaven!

Some Christmas viewing - Hinge and Bracket.
A singing-comedy team from England. Two men playing two women, They had a radio series that lasted several seasons and a TV show, also. They even played dramatic roles as their alter egos, for example they starred in Lettice and Lovage.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwgHf6Aho8w
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfmtTrSV8_k
Very funny, from their TV show. Many decades ago, when self-service gas stations just began.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0F-Gn2UAFXc
Rather a sad piece...the cancer that eventually took Patrick Fyfle (the main singer) seems to have been taking its toll here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_rCC-BEeLw
Just repartee between the two of them.
-
Thanks, Bruce - as above, I am SUCH a spazz...
But such a lovely one! :-*
Oh, how you talk!!!
-
A friend sent me an mp4 excerpt of one of my concerts, back in the day... Ah, fors'e lui/Sempre libera, from Traviata. I gotta say it knocked my support sox off!!! Yowza!
-
DR George was watching wonderful movies last night.
Bruce had a great party with folks I would like to have seen. DR Druxy it would be nice to meet you in person.
I enjoyed the photos

Dear TCB-OUCH-VIBES YOU HEAL QUICKLY FOR A CHANGE!!!

Penny the sweater you wore last night is beautiful.

Vibes for DR TCB! Do they sell those yak traks where you live? You put them on your boots and they make it so that you cannot fall on ice.
I keep meaning to look for something to put on my shoes when I hike. Every time I'm out with my hiking group & we all start slipping we all say we should get them. So far no one has.
-
My DS is sick today, so we will open the very few presents when he wakes up tonight.
My younger DS is also sick, except his gift to us is a special dinner tonight-so of course he is cooking.
Keith had to plow most of the road. We don't want to walk up the road tomorrow night after dropping the gang off at the airport.
-
DR Singingnymph I think you would enjoy the Tom & Jerry’s we have been drinking around here. Wishing you a very good 2009 & “potential” becoming more ;)

Thanks - my mom designed and made it many years ago. I wear it only for very special occasions.
-
I'm sure you do. Ioana is learning how to knit off the internet. Her first attempt, & not a bad one at all, was a scarf for me. Craig picked the color :)

I was watching RELATIVE VALUES, a film from 2000 that I guess was only seen on cable television here. Based on a play by Noel Coward and starring Julie Andrews and many others. Very funny.
Don Lucas: (famous American movie star visiting Marchwood, William Baldwin) I have to get back to Hollywood. I'm in the middle of a picture.
Lady Marchwood: (Julie Andrews) Oh how marvelous. Can you tell us what it's about, or is that a secret?
Don Lucas: It's no secret. It's about a bum.
Lady Marchwood: Oh. That's rather an unusual subject for a film, isn't it?
Peter: (nephew of Lady Marchwood, Colin Firth) Uh...that word doesn't mean quite the same there as it does here.
Lady Marchwood: Oh.
-
Who will be number three?
-
Yes, I forgot to comment as well on the svelte fizeek of Mr BK in the photographs. Inspiring to say the least.

You should definitely try these. I've bought them before for my uncle. I listed some links on the other page. I think qvc is a pretty reliable place to order online from.
They are only like $10 a pair. And they do work.
If you walk a lot where it is icy these would help you. You just attach them to your boots. and it makes it so you cannot fall down.

They are delicious :)

Christmas evening greeting! We've had a delightful 24 hours in which I only slept 4, so I'll be crashing soon. My mom, aunt, and niece arrived about 5pm yesterday for Christmas Eve dinner and the exchange of presents. After they left, DH Richard, DS Rob, DG (dear girlfriend) Mary Linda, and I began opening gifts, which we finished after the 11pm candlelight service at the nearby church where Richard teaches Tuesday morning Bible study. So, it was actually Christmas morning when we finished opening presents and went to bed about 1:30am. I had trouble going to sleep and had to get up at 6:30 today in order to be in Cincinnati for 10am mass at our Anglican church. Rob and ML left from there to spend the next week or so in Michigan with her family and Richard dropped me off at my mom's. Mom, my niece, my aunt, and I went to see Marley & Me, which this "animal grinch" enjoyed quite a bit. My niece brought me home and she and my mom joined Richard and me for a light supper of leftovers from Tuesday and Wednesday's dinners. Richard and I are now watching Kung Fu Panda.
-
I shall shortly be on my way to Miss Cissy Wechter's home environment for a Christmas Day partay.
-
At long last, page nine.
-
I missed the Pogues at the Do. In fact, I miss the Pogues, period.
-
I hope everyone had a wonderful day and got everything they wanted and had delicious food and great family time.
-
I shall shortly be on my way to Miss Cissy Wechter's home environment for a Christmas Day partay.
I just this afternoon watched the great "A&M" Hollywood Palace show from 1967, with some wonderful moments featuring Julius.
-
Whoever was the boom operator that night had been drinking, I can tell you that. :)

My Christopher Norman chocolates (http://christophernormanchocolates.com) from New York are delicious!

Good evening everyone. We have returned safely back across the mountains to Tacoma, after a wonderful Christmas. Yesterday DH Jed and DS Toby and I had Christmas dinner with my parents, and opened our presents. Then Jed left to do his Christmas Eve traditions with his family, and my parents and I left to do the 7 pm and 10 pm church services. My mom was filling in for the organist and my dad was conducting the choir, and I sang (sight-reading the two pieces with no difficulty at all) DS Toby was as good as gold during church, charming everyone with big smiles, and falling asleep in the wrap and staying there until almost the end of the service. Then he woke up and I took him into the church office to nurse, and we were back for the closing hymn.
This morning we woke up and went over to DH Jed's house for presents and Christmas breakfast, as per the tradition.
With excellent food and great presents, a wonderful time was had by all. Toby nursed and slept and smiled at everyone, and charmed the entire family.
Toby slept the whole way home (a little over 2 hours) He also slept the whole way there on Tuesday. What a champ. We're now watching A Christmas Story on TV and contemplating some dinner soon.
I hope everyone has had very merry holidays full of great food and family. A VERY Merry Christmas to all!
-
There are many Christmas pictures, but I think I left my camera at Jed's mom's house, so until I find it, you all are spared :D
-
Aww, Ann. I was hoping for some pictures.
-
Next we have a lovely grouping of people. From left to right: PennyO, Druxy, Mrs. Druxy (Sandy), John Holly, and his friend, whose name I don't remember.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/whitesheik/photo-2.jpg)
What a lovely group of freinds and guests! I am glad your gathering went well bk!
ON that note.....
Merry Christmas to one and all!

Lovely pictures!

DF Jon arrives tomorrow for a week's visit. Not sure what I am getting from him but I am intrigued. He is taking me out for my birthday later in the week but I am not sure where I want to go for dinner on my birthday...
My choices are Grazies (Northern Italian), Santa Lucia (Greek) or Saffron (Northern Indian/ Punjab)....
Tough decision...
-
I have to say that TV is a "doldrums" this Christmas Day.
Yep although there is a new Christmas episode of Y&R later for me (in the US it will be shown tomorrow).
However Jennifer, It was fun to see the classic eppie of YR today in the US. I think it was from the late 1980s. Gotta love the 80s hair!
-
RIP Eartha Kitt!

TOTD:
Gregory Maquire: Son Of A Witch
I plan on reading this book during break....

Good Evening
Today was really lovely.
Fred, please thank Skip for the cooking advice - the prime rib steaks smelled and looked beutiful and I was reassurred by thr Vixter and Vixdad both verbally and by the speed with which they consumed them that they were also delcious. Unfortunately I found I was not able to eat mine and settled for creamed spincah and a Carnation instant breakfast
I hope you all had a very lovely time at your Christamas partay. It was wonderful speaking to you and Skip and Jose and Julie
-
It has been a busy month. This past week has been two trips up to my mother's place and back for differen activities and events.
I did get a lovely gift certificate for BN... I will have to do some serious thinking on on what I want... Oh the choice... :-)
-
I did finish the beast and turned taht in over a week ago. Thank god! If anyone is brave, you are welcomed to read it.
-
Larry thanki you for the lovely box of Godiva chocolates. Chocolate is thr one thing now that I can still taste properly. What a wonderfula nd unexpected treat. The box was also decorated with a beautiful crystal snowflake ornament which will grace my tree for years to come and always remind me how very lucky I am to have a friend like you
-
Good evening dear Vixmom....
You have been in my thoughts and I hope all is well... I send many vibes!
-
Mother nature the last few weeks has been unpleasant. WE have had horrendousy cold temps and several storms and blizzards. Not fun!
-
I hope everyone is enjoying their day.

RIP Harold Pinter and Eartha Kitt....

Yesterday (Christmas Eve) and teh day befoe I felt so well that I went to work and worked for the full day (well yetserday the boss sent us home at 3 PM after a catered lunch)
Then yesterday evening we gathered at my parents house, the Vixfamily Trio, my brother from Ohio with his wife, three daughters, Japanese exchange student and his inlaws. Then my other brother and his girlfriend arrived and announced that an hour earlier my brother had proposed and she had accepted. We are all very pleased and excited. I had announced when I became ill that I was going to forego exchanging gifts this year. Everyone decided to follow suit and we each ended up each getting something small for each of the girls (my brothers 3 and his exchange student and the Vixter)
I am sure the engagement celebration helped - and it is also that sanme brother's birthday today so we celebrated that as well - but the whole eveing just seemed so much nicer just watching the girls each open a couple of small gifts and remving teh hassel of teh exchange betweent eh adults. I think I may just suggest that we continue this as a new tradition
-
As far as prezzies in this household we were planning on a very lean Christmas present wise. I do shop during the year and put things away so I had a few small items for the Vixter and for Vixdad. I took advantage of the DVD sale at DDD and ordered a full boxed set of every episodeof RED DWARF as a present for the family and a certain DR sold me (very reasonably priced may I add, and thank you again!!) some DVDs and I expected that to be that.
Now back in September the Vixter had expressed her hope for a Wii or a IPOD but since my diagnosis she has not asked for a thing . When pressed for a list she insisted that she couldn't think of a thing that she wanted or needed. We looked into getting the Wii but the price of teh uit and a game was well beyond our budget. We were looking for sales to see if we could at least get her an IPOD when we had a little Christmas miracle - the bank statement arrived
-
It seems that 3 years ago I had signed up for a "points system" on my debit card - every time I use it as a credit card I get 4 points for every dollar I spend. Occassionally they have special months where you get doub;le point s for supermarket sales, or for shopping at a particular store.
I never paid any attention to the point accruel but I do use that card for everything - gas, groceries, pharmacy, paying thw water bill, cable bill, telephone bill, etc. and I have never exchanged a single point.
When I opened the statement it annouced that I had 523,000 points!! So I perused the "Rewards Catalog" I had enough points to get the Vixter the Wii AND a 8GB Nano. It didn't cost us a cent - they didn't even charge for shipping.
You should have seen her face when she opened them. I was so pleased we coudl do it for her . She has been working so hard, vacuuming. cooking . cleaning , laundrey along with her school work and all her otehr activicties at church and school. She hasn't complained and does it all with a smile.
I am such a very lucky woman to have such a supportive family and such a wonderful group of friends here at HHW - thank you all for the cards and the words of comfort and support,
I thank God daily for each and everyone of you.
-
and now I shall shut up for a while and catch up on what all of you have been saying!!!
Merry Christmas!!!
-
Vixmom!!! Merriest of Merry Christmases! So glad for the kazillion points that made it possible to grant the extraordinary and saintly Vixter her fondest wishes!!!
-
Debra, thank you for that heartwarming Christmas "memory". That's truly what the spirit of Christmas giftgiving is about.
-
Vixmom what a wonderful story and a wonderful way to surprise Vixter... I truly hope you all had a lovely day.
-
Page 10 Dance!
-
When the Vixter went to bed she said this was the best Christmas ever. I concur!!
-
Well, Vixdad and I have to get up at 4:30 AM to get ourselves showered dressed and to the hospital by 6 AM for my surgery
Merry Christmas to All and to All a good night!!!
-
I send very positive thoughts to you Vixmom and I pray it goes well
((Vixmom!!))
Glad that Vixter had a wonderful christmas....
-
Nice Christmas story, Vixmom. What a nice surprise those points were! Miss Vixter is a lovely young woman, and I know she has been and will continue to be helpful while you are recovering.
Prayers and vibes for your surgery tomorrow.
-
Well, Vixdad and I have to get up at 4:30 AM to get ourselves showered dressed and to the hospital by 6 AM for my surgery
Merry Christmas to All and to All a good night!!!
I'll be thinking of you - and your wonderful Christmas tale, AND more importantly sending you vibes - as I, too, have to wake up that early tomorrow to be at work in the Borders Seattle's Best Cafe. That's my Christmas Blessing, I guess, since I won't have to deal with customers trying to return things without their friggin' receipts!
I hope everyone's Christmas Day was as lovely as it could possibly be.
Goodnight.
-
I guess it will be another warm day tomorrow. I went on the porch a little while ago, and it felt more like March or early April than December.
-
Merry merry Christmas to the Vix-family! Your story was so sweet and heartwarming.
I'm sending you some super-vibes and prayers for tomorrow. I've never had surgery to remove cancer, but I have had several reconstructive surgeries on my face, and I know surgery of any kind is just no fun at all. You've got a terrific support system of family and friends, and I'm sure everything will go smoothly. Keep us posted as you can!
-
I began my evening with MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS. The film looks quite beautiful in its Ultra-Resolution restoration, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it again.
-
Next, I watched "The Lion's Cub" episode of ELIZABETH R which I hadn't watched in a long time. This and "Horrible Conspiracies" are my favorite two episodes of the series. Brilliant in every respect.
-
I was going to end my evening watching another NCIS episode, but since disc 1 of ELIZABETH R was in the player, I went ahead and started watching "The Marriage Game," episode 2. Robert Hardy makes a grandly scheming Lord Robert Dudley.
-
I do have one more Criterion disc here for review (a Rossellini film on James XIV), but I may hold off on it until Saturday and take the day off. I'm also expecting the Blu-ray of DISASTER MOVIE to arrive, and if it does, I'll do it on Saturday instead. It comes out a week before the Rossellini DVD.
-

I have always liked Robert Hardy as an actor. He is one of my favorite actors. One time many years ago on PBS there was a program where he did Winston Churchill. He was excellent.
-
I love seeing him turn up in modern (for the time) roles in 1960s British films. I was so used to seeing him in Elizabethan garments.

Now my evening internet surf is done, and I'm heading down to bed.
Good night!

Good Evening!
Many thanks to Skip and Fred and Julie for being such wonderful company and great friends today. -Oh, and Toby and Dylan too, of course! The meal was wonderful as always - roasted Berkshire pork, potato gratin, green beans almondine, a tarte tatin and some chocolate-dipped strawberries - that were dipped by DR Julie.
*And Skip liked my cookies. Whew!

So hard to believe that we lost both Paul Newman and Eartha Kitt this year. -And I feel very fortunate to have met Mr. Newman, and to have worked with and played for Eartha.
-
Jose - Your cookies were great!
And of course, we always love it when you're in town and can be part of our holidays.
-
It is sad that we have lost the both this year Jose. I hope you treasure that photo. You are indeed a lucky individual..

So...
I saw "The Wrestler" this morning. Raw, brutal, powerful, moving, even a little scary. The wrestling sequences are very real and wince-inducing. And Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei lay everything on the line in their portrayals. I'm not sure I would call it one of my favorites, but I will say that it was a very good movie, and one that will haunt me for a few days.
-
I am shocked and saddened to read of the death of Eartha Kitt today. How lucky you were Jose to have the chance to work with her last year.
-
And I saw "...Benjamin Button" earlier tonight. I found it very moving, and not at all long at two and a half hours. The make-up and CGI-assisted effects are practically seamless, and even though the movie deals with some very BIG themes, there's also a wonderful sense of whimsy. I know there have been some complaints that it strayed a bit too far from the original short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, but I don't think the director and writers were ever trying to be quote, unquote faithful to the source material. If they had, the movie would have had a much, much shorter running times since the story is only about 25 pages long. -The time span of the movie would have been greatly altered too.
Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchett provide some great anchors for the film surrounded by a very strong supporting cast. And the role that music plays in the film greatly touched me - which includes a recreation of one of the great moments from the Golden Age of Broadway.
It really is one of those movies where you just have to sit back, watch the set up, accept the set up, and just let it all unfold in front of you and fall under its spell. Magical in many senses of the word.
-
*Alas...
The idiot who sat next to me started criticizing the movie as soon as the final credits started rolling. He didn't realize the movie was "so long, too long" - it's called read the reviews or the movie info ahead of time. He also complained about how it wasn't like the book... but then his girlfriend asked him what exactly was different, and he could not really tell her. HA! Oh, and, of course, he arrived five minutes late - his girlfriend was saving his seat for him, and he got up three times during the course of the movie to go to the bathroom and/or get his Coke and popcorn refills. And he made that "oooohhh, aaahhh" sound when Benjamin Button had his first kiss. Were not in high school, a**hole!"
If I didn't feel the need just to sit in my seat and finish processing what I had just watched - and, yes, I was crying - I would have spoken up and at least have told him to "SHUT UP! MERRY CHRISTMAS, A**HOLE!!!!!"
Thankfully, his girlfriend was also getting fed up with his post-movie commentary, and she made sure they got out of the theatre as fast as she could drag him.

I do indeed feel lucky and fortunate to have had that opportunity. I shall have to make sure, at the very least, to send a card to her daughter and granddaughter.

DR Vixmom, I am so glad you and Vixdad were able to give the Vixter what she wanted (and deserved) for Christmas. Your story reminded me of a line from Truman Capote's "A Christmas Memory":
"It's bad enough in life to do without something you want; but confound it, what gets my goat is not being able to give somebody somthing you want them to have."
It's wonderful that things turned out in such a surprising way. I love it when life works like that!
-
In any case...
I believe I ended up being a bit more homesick today than I thought I would. Of course, seeing two "sad" movies probably didn't help matters, but I think what truly did me in was when I called home, and my brother put my niece and god-daughter on the phone, "Merry Christmas Uncle Jojo." -It was the first time she actually said my name correctly. :( ;) :) And then I called Steve to wish him a Merry Christmas, and had to end the call almost immediately and call him back since I was still a bit emotional after seeing "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button".
I did have a Merry Christmas - and Christmas Eve - in New York City. But.. Well, it was nice to know that I did indeed miss Home.

Excellent vibes and xylophones to vixmom.

On the local 11:00 newscast they actually said, "She was best known for her portrayal of the Catwoman on the BATMAN televeision series." Sheesh!
-
Back from Cissy Wechter's partay, which was, as always, wonderful. Saw lots of nice folks, and we all got a fantastic gift from Cissy - a VERY limited edition two CD set she made up just for people at the party and a handful of her other friends of really rare Julius Wechter tracks. I'm looking forward to hearing it very soon.
-
HA!
I'm watching "Footloose" right now on one of the HBO channels... I had forgotten that John Lithgow and Diane Wiest played parents before opposite each other before All My Sons. ;)
-
I ate a lot, or it seemed like a lot, but I think that in the scheme of things, for ME, I was restrained compared to most years. Cissy made noodle kugel especially for me and I had two small squares of that, plus turkey, a little stuffing, some peas and mushrooms, and some cranberries. I stayed away from the sweet potatoes and everything else. I did have two helpings, but my first helping was really small and my second helping was about the same, so basically I ate one healthy-sized helping. For dessert I had a small piece of pumpkin pie with Cool Whip on top. The food was SO good - great turkey and stuffing (I really had to be careful with both kugel and stuffing, which I could have eaten MUCH more of), but I wasn't the pig I usually am and so, given this morning's long jog, I'm hoping I haven't done any damage and I am now past the two most worrisome pig-out days.
-
Now I shall finish another episode of Mannix.
-
DR vixmom - It was great getting a chance to talk to you today - and it was also good to read that your prime rib steaks came out well too. And your story about the points and the vixter, well... :)

Well, I believe to take some "quiet time" before I go to bed, so...
Goodnight.
-
I'm very tired from my own wonderful Christmas day with my family, so I'm off to bed now. I think I'll read myself to sleep with Capote's "A Christmas Memory". It will be a nice way to end the day.
Good night, you Lords of L.A, you Ladies of Phoenix, you Princes of New York...sweet dreams...
-
Hi all! Guess I'm a little late to say Merry Christmas. I'm still at my parents' house with little access to internet so I'm posting from my Blackberry. All in all it's been a good time. I'll post more details when I get home
-
I liked both Footloose and Flashdance... Fun movies and great teenybopper pics of the time...
One can't help but tap their toes on Footloose.

That's a wonderful story, Vixmom! It's a good thing that you realized that you even had all the points! :D My friend Margo also uses a credit card for everything...even her mortgage. With her frequent flyer miles, she was able to fly herself and her three daughters to Hawaii (from Seattle, Washington) for a grand total of $84!!
~~~Continued Vibes!!!~~~
