Les Fables de La Fontaine, Robert Wilson, Lincoln Center.

-Which got cancelled tonight due to an injured cast member.  Something must be in the air.  First James Carpinello in Xanadu and now this.  ;)

No definite plans at the moment...

Well... I think I know "someone" who was offered access to the house seats from the office of the casting director for the show, so...  Just sayin'.  ;)

Has someone already posted this report about the Magnolia Bakery being temporarily closed down?

http://www.ny1.com/ny1/content/index.jsp?stid=8&aid=71594

First Wendy's, then Pinkberry, now Magnolia Bakery!  What's going on?!?!?  Stop the madness!!!! Next thing you know, they'll be telling us there are rats that run up and down the subway tracks and sometimes on the platform stations! :-\

*Although, I do have to wonder, what kind of "exemption" a subway station falls under in reference to rodents.  Heck, there have been times when I've seen the rats get on a train!

Today's Note's Title reminded me of TENDERLOIN, and to my amazement, there is actually a discussion of "Artificial Flowers" over on a Broadway chat site - discussing the pros and cons of Bobby Darin's brilliant (IMHO) cover of that Bock/Harnick song.  To be honest, if I had to start a list of my favorite Darin songs (and arrangements) I think that "Artificial Flowers" would place second, behind "Beyond the Sea."

Has "On the Lot" been on hiatus? I wasn't watching it, but noticed that there have been no comments about it here lately.

We still watch it here.  It's OK.  The format really sucks, and the hostess is ANNOYING!!!!

I'd certainly never heard of "Tenderloin" when I first heard and loved "Artificial Flowers" DR td.
"Beyond the Sea" will always be at the top of my list too. The "That's All" Album is one the truly greats of its time.

As for postal rates... Well, all things considered, paying $0.42 to have a letter delivered from Point A to Point B - and Point A could be Key West, FL, and Point B could Honolulu, HI - is still quite the bargain.  Heck, even $8.95 for the large Flat Rate Priority Mail Box isn't bad at all for occasional shipping.  Yes, I know any sort of postal rate increase will always affect businesses more than individuals, but in comparison to how much it would cost to deliver that on your own, using your own vehicle and fuel, well...  It's all about perspective.  -And remember, in terms of today's delivery times, the Pony Express was never really that "express".

The "b" side of the "Artificial Flowers" was released here as the single at the time (Somebody To Love). "Artifical Flowers" did not have airplay clearance until months later.

Why does my memory store that stuff?

DR Laura:

Quotes from 3D:Response from BK:

Well,  500 people would net us 50K - so how about 50 people at 100 per?

Tell you what - before we get anyone to actually do it - how about everyone who's interested can send me an e-mail at kritzerland@aol.com and if we get fifty folks, I'll give the go-ahead.  Then, when the box-office receipts are distributed to us (usually takes a month or two from what I understand), then dough is returned via paypal.  I like it!

It was not I who asked; I have already taken care of my obligation.

(Just as I suspected, BK does not read ALL the posts -- well, at least not all of mine -- could it be that my reputation for gratuitous posting proceeds me and makes my postings suspect as being spamish ...)

The day of DR 3-D's brilliant plan for Brain shares, I wanted to be part of the action and requested a share (I can't remember the day nor the post number -- but it's in the archives somewhere, I promise).

So put the Murphys down for a share BK --  what does that take you to?

Well, to be "fair"... BK did request that you e-mail him a request for a share.  This way he would have a record - the e-mail - of it.

I guess you skipped over that post.  ;)

E.Ashley was the composer of "The Saint".
I have it  on RECORD.  "Television's Greatest Hits Vol 2".

I think there were 6 or more Cds of the TV themes series released a few years back..

DR Jose, you're brilliant!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97klp1BtmXo

It's on Youtube. There's a ... riff, is it called? a series of notes over and over again, and at the end they're really high. So if anyone with an ear could list the instruments used, in particular the one for the high notes... I'd be most grateful!

It's a flute.

Great minds think alike.  There's also this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x32OgzQCKJM&NR=1

The first one just sounds like flute to me, but the one I posted has a weird, almost Moog-ish thing happening up high that I can't identify at such lo-fi.

Actually it sounds like a "Grusin"-ish flute and glock combo in a couple of places (a la those great Mendes orchestrations from 1968-70).

Well, maybe a flute and/or piccolo that's been "processed".

Yeah, but it has that sine tone quality to it (at least on the tiny speakers on this computer).   Maybe 3D can place the year of the color credits from my link--if it's post 1967 it could actually be a Moog.

And speaking of flutes...

It wasn't until a few years ago that someone pointed out to me just how out of tune the flute solo is in the song "California Dreaming"  Consequently, everytime I hear that song, all I can hear is the flute solo, and it's ain't pretty at all.  It's actually almost painful to listen to.  However, before I "noticed" it, I didn't really notice it.

California Dreaming

*I've always loved the bathtubs in this clip!

A flute!  See, I have no ear!  I like the sound of it, but I could never distinguish which instruments are used....
