Du-Par's also has good bacon.
And one for Gedling!
And the word of the day is: SUSURRUS!Casey would waltz
...(I know a guy who's job is too look though pages for pornographic material)....This sounds like a job for...TCBMAN!!!
500 posts ago Bruce was annoyed that his water was frozenHis annoyance is nothing compared to what will be heard nationwide when the fruits of said freeze fail to come to market! I'm already hearing grumbling from the shoppers.

My usual breakfast (like some others) is a bowl of oatmeal with raisins. I put something else in also, either Trader Joe's freeze-dried strawberries or blueberries or a banana. I also have a cup of black coffee.
To work!
(Where the bakery makes some really great doughnuts!)
A good diner breakfast of two eggs over easy, home fries (different from the hash browns you usually get at a Perkins or Embers in Minneapolis), some bacon (not to crisp) whole wheat toast and a bottomless cup of coffee. Mmm, mmm, mmm. Though I can't eat that too often. My doctor objects.
In his notes today our Dear Friend BK wrote: Plus, I realized I’d left one track of the track listing on the Brain inlay card – thank goodness I caught that and it is now fixed, as well. Was it "Saucers In The Sky" which was accidentally left off my rough mix? Curious minds want to know!
Yesterday I read a news report that nuking sponges in the microwave for 2 minutes is the best way to kill germs, better than my usual method of putting them in the dishwasher.
This morning Keith showed me an article that there are some angry people out there who destroyed their microwaves nuking the sponges. Seems the article forgot to mention the sponges need to be wet before nuking them. Also to be careful when removing them as they are very hot.
Fortunately I had the sense last night to place our wet sponges on a plate, nuke them, and remove the entire plate using a pot holder.
And one for oatmeal.
Thanks for the tip. I've gotten in the habit of getting cheap sponges, using them for awhile then throwing them out and getting new ones. This would be a money saver
Oatmeal isn't just oatmeal anymore - not in any of these stupidly trendy jernts in LA - now it's steel oatmeal or iron oatmeat or wrought iron oatmeal or something like that - does anyone know what I'm talking about? I've now seen it in about six restaurants here. Just give me a bowl of oatmeal and leave the trendy to others.
steel-cut oats = Irish oats = Scotch oats = pinhead oats = coarse-cut oats = steel-cut oatmeal = Irish oatmeal = Scotch oatmeal = pinhead oatmeal = coarse-cut oatmeal = porridge oats = porridge oatmeal
All I'm saying is that only in the last few months have we seen the words "steel-cut" regarding oatmeal, at least here in LA. Whether home made, steel-cut, rolled, flattened, kicked, or beaten, it was always just oatmeal. It's like everything else here - all these trendy little words and things added to what used to be simple dishes. There was something else I noticed - something called aioli - I'm telling you, I never heard the word aioli until last year and now it's on every menu everywhere.
Good Afternoon!
Just taking a break from the boxes for some lunch and "my stories". ;)
Oh For those of you unfamiliar with the lovely Gracie (affectionately called "Our Gracie by our British brethren) you can check out some quick facts here:
Gracie Fields (http://www.graciefields.freeserve.co.uk/)
I almost forgot! Since BK and Mr. Moore were talking backwards and in code, Tom(ofOz) here's something for you:
WG
I think you'll know what I mean.
Also, the North American tour has arrived!
I edited an episode for "Good Eats" about oatmeal.
I forgot about Mr Cochran playing D. Day's husband in that movie, DR MBARNUM. Yes, very good.
I saw Ms Laurie Mitchell in a movie on TCM this morning...Lord Love a Duck.
Yes, the oh, so with it catchphrases are so annoying on every level. I do love "day one" or "day five" - it's been around a long time, but I just cringe every time I hear it - I lampoon it whenever and wherever I can.
I don't remember her specifically, MBarnum, but I'm sure she was a zany spy in that.
There's a phrase everyone uses these days which I swear was not used much 10 years ago, now people say it relentlessly about anything at all. That phrase is: "It is what it is."
I haven't read any of the posts today yet to see if anyone has commented on last night's AMERICAN IDOL.
But I was curious if any of the featured singers had an impact on anybody here.
I think the most touching moment for me was the 19 yr old girl whose father did not know she was auditioning. She had told him she was with a friend.
I also liked the story of the best friends. Not sure how much i like either one. But it was cute.
One interesting thing i found out is that there are spoiler sites that can tell you if your favorites have made it to the top 40. I never really realized they did spoilers for AI. I didn't really read it, although i did happen to read the fates of the indian brother and sister from a couple of weeks ago.
Happy Birthday, Sandy!
Back from my mail place and a long talk with the one reasonable gal there - she apologized for the idiocy of yesterday and spoke with that gal strongly. I also told her that I'd been a customer for over ten years and that it irks me every time I walk in and see the big sign that offers three free months to new customers who sign up for a year. I have never gotten even a discount when I pay a whole year in advance. So, she nicely added three months onto my current year, which means instead of re-upping in April I don't have to until July. That was nice.
I wanted to shake the Simon lookalike by the shoulders. He had a great voice, very high tenor that he could really have shown off with if he had chosen to do "Sherry" or "Big Girls Don't Cry." But looking overly metrosexual with that high voice that he then took into falsetto from the top of his chest voice (and being a song made famous by a GIRL singer, not to mention Kelly Clarkson) was just asking for a pass from Simon. Wasn't surprised at all he got four no votes even though his voice could have been spectacular had he chosen the right song and saved those super high notes to spring on them at a later date.
If he's got a brain in his head, he's at JERSEY BOYS offices right now auditioning for the producers for an understudy job.
I don't think he did himself any favors, either.
And was he wearing just a bit of makeup?
Julieanne Pogue stopped by this morning with a lovely Xmas present - two interesting-looking DVDs from Merry Olde England - one a musical version of a TV show - Acorn something, and one a history of the English music hall - looking forward to seeing both posthaste.
Sandra, do you want to go for a ride in the car?

I've now seen it in about six restaurants here. Just give me a bowl of oatmeal and leave the trendy to others. Not as trendy as you might think, esteemed BK. Steel cut oats have a different texture than the rolled oats you're probably used to. Steel cut oats are thicker, for one thing, and require overnight soaking, something the rolled oats don't require (making the rolled oats more "instant"). As a result, the steel cut oats also contain more fiber.
I edited an episode for "Good Eats" about oatmeal. The steel cut oats are the ones you want to get the whole benefit of oatmeal. The more processed it is, the less beneficial. So instant oatmeal is convenient but not that helpful...Available on DVD from the Food Network. The DVD is titled Breakfast Eats 2, and contains the episodes Oat Cuisine, Yogurt: Good Milk Gone Bad, and True Brew Mr. Tea. (The Oat Cuisine episode includes recipes for steel cut oatmeal, overnight oatmeal, granola, and haggis. :o)
I am so proud. My city just spent $15,000 making a model of downtown out of Jell-o. The clear buildings are buildings that don't exist.

When we were working on it, Alton told me that if you ate nothing but salmon, oatmeal and leafy green vegetables, he thought you could live forever! He also gave me directions for how to smoke salmon in a cardboard box. (A bonus of this apparently was that if you had a dog, it would eat the cardboard afterwards.)The episode with the cardboard box smoker was one of the first to be released on DVD - Hooked and Cooked. Episodes included are Where There's Smoke There's Fish, Tuna: The Other Red Meat, and Hook, Line and Dinner.
And does anyone here remember "arugula" being so oft-mentioned as a fundamental element in salads and cooking BEFORE "Into the Woods"?Arugula, a.k.a. Rocket. Sure.
I mean...seriously....
:P
What's next? Iron-cut ham? Steel-girded pancakes? Eggs Aioli?Aioli is a garlicky mayonnaise. Mayo is made from eggs and oil. Eggs Aioli would be like gilding the lily with more lily...

Wait a sec. Garlic is a member of the lily family. So maybe it really WOULD be like gilding the lily with more lily!
The real question would be, eggs cooked how, exactly, and then served with an aioli. It could be quite tasty!

I had the most woderful drink tonight - orange juice, fresh strawberries, fresh blue berries and a banana in the new blender. It was extremely yummy.
Just like with Survivor, DR Jennifer, there are sites that tell you what's going to happen up to some point.
I've seen a couple of AI sites that purport to name a few of the folks who make it beyond the final 40.
Nothing definitive has come to my attention...and it's all being reported as second-hand information...based on somebody heard this from somebody who knows somebody.

BK, on www.kritzerland.com, in the photo/video gallery, you have five video clips from the "Simply Sondheim" tribute concert. But I was perusing Youtube.com and came across THIS (http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=sartists) bunch of video clips! They all have the Kritzerland name on them, but there are four clips from the show...in addition to the original Kritzerland five! The descriptions for the videos say that more information is at www.a-jproductions.net. Did you know about this? Did anyone else know about this?? Just curious. :)
(Is there no possibility for an official DVD release? ::))
spoilers from american idol re: which of the indian siblings made it to the finals. As i said i wasn't looking for the spoiler info. I didn't post it above because i didn't want to spoil the results for anyone. I'll bet though that theamazingracesucks AI board has a lot of info.
Anyhow for the indian siblings. The brother (who simon preferred) made it through and the sister was eliminated on the last day. There was also somewhere the mentioned there might be a top 40 being reduced to top 24 (that maybe we will get to vote on??)

Although I would like to see the clips of Mr Haines and his number.
I was perusing Youtube.com
Thanks for the link, DR George!
As far as I remember, when I alluded about a dvd release, BK gave a vehement "NO!"
And the word of the day is: SUSURRUS!
Is that the sequel to SEUSSICAL?
Oh, God, I hope not! Some of those performers are hard enough to listen to without the visuals!
And now, it's off to rehearsal. Be back later!
We all had a chat and it was decided that, even though the six of us still wanted to continue with the show, there just isn't enough time to keep looking for people if we want to be ready for the dates that we've scheduled for performances. So, that's that. It would've been fun to do this, but things just didn't work out. :-\
When vibes won't work!
We've discovered in this time of severe water shortage that we have a fractured and thus leaking water pipe under the concrete! The water that is evident could be from any where along the main water pipes - most of them are underneath the concrete slab upon which the house is built. (Houses are not buit that way now!).
Vibes may increase the side of the fracture! We are only turning water on at the mains for a short while of a morning and relying on containers etc for most of the day. It's a holiday weekend and it's difficult enough to find a plumber any way!
Send $$$$ not vibes. I'm pleased we have already had our holiday in North America!
I suspect the landlord will try and place the blame on the weight of the CD/DVD/record collection.. The landlord is DP Colin.
Dare I ask - do the sewage lines also run through the slab?Short answer is "No".

You're too kind. BLAME JOSE!MMMM. Well he has stayed here!
der Brucer
Well, gather up the slackers and do an impromtu encore of Cannibal, with them the "guests" of honor.

Short answer is "No".
I guess we're not getting page eleven.
