Well, you've read the notes, the notes asked the age old question, "Had a piece lately?", and now it is time for you to post until the piece o' cows come home.

And the word of the day is: GOBBET!

Bluesette is a lovely song, BK. Can't wait to hear the East Coast Singer's version. :)
-
I posted this yesterday:
Well, I must be off. Tonight is the start of Olympia's annual Capital Lakefair (http://www.lakefair.org/)! I'm going to meet my friend Margo down there and we're going to get a Demo burger. The proceeds of the burger sales go to elect Democrats. There's also a Republican equivalent, but they don't sell burgers. In the past, I think they've sold pulled pork sandwiches or something like that. I don't remember. ::) But the Demo burgers are very good. :D
Be back later!
Well, the first day of Olympia's Capital Lakefair was mostly the traveling carnival rides and food, lots of booths to buy things, and several local food booths. I did have a Demo burger (burger patty, cheese and grilled onions on a very soft bun) and it was as good as I remember. There were a few people in front of us when Margo and I got in line but it didn't take too long to get our burgers. The only other local food booth that had a longer line (that I noticed) was the Tumwater Rotary (I think) booth that was selling "hand dipped corn dogs," as well as regular hot dogs and some other things. I did have a corn dog a bit after the Demo burger (hey, it's Lakefair!), but it was a little overdone. The batter tasted good, but it was just a little too tough.
-
Anyway, what was really funny (to me) was that every time I looked at the Republican food booth (which was at the entrance of the fair and sold hot dogs and fries), no one was at the booth buying anything! A couple of times I noticed people talking to booth workers, but I never saw ANYONE actually take any of the foodstuffs away from the booth. Very interesting! It was only the first night, so I'm sure that people will buy their hot dogs during the fair.
;)
-
After eating burgers and corn dogs and elephant ears (oh my!), Margo and I walked around the whole fair. It's not a large fair, but it was fun to see all the local businesses in tents selling their stuff. We came across a tent that sold tie-dyed clothing and I actually bought a couple of very nicely tie-dyed t-shirts. What was REALLY cool was that the t-shirt fabric was pretty thick. Most t-shirts that I've seen for sale lately are very thin (like for undershirts) and don't last long. This t-shirt material will definitely last a long time. They're all hand-dyed and for $20 each, I thought that they really were worth it. If I go back, I might get another one.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
There is a crepe joint within a 10 minute walk from my abode. I'll see if I can get a photo to post later.

Wow - "Bluesette" is a really rangy song! Nice job, bk!

From UrbanDictionary.com:
Cat's Pajamas:
1920s lingo describing someone (something) who is great, incredible, or special. Usually indicating stylishness or innovation. Pajamas were a relatively new fashion in the 1920s. The term "cat" was beginning to be used as a term to describe the outgoing and unconventional jazz-age flappers.
It also says: An adjective used by hipsters of the 1920's to describe a person who is the best at what they do.
Also used to describe another person who is genial and fun to be with.
This term has been recently popularized by the movie 'The School of Rock'.
Synonym: bees-knees

Corned beef hash and chicken kiev may not be on restaurant menus (although I did see chicken kiev on a menu last year in...er... strangely enough Kiev) but I still buy them as ready meals in supermarkets.

Good morning, all! I have to hit Toyland today to meet Patrick Cummings, our leading man for ROBERTA. After that, I am heading home for the AC.
The ROBERTA dreams have begun in full force. Too many refrains of "Let's Begin" last night!

Thursday morning greetings! Tonight I will attend my book group as just another member, not the leader. Sharon is doing a fantastic job already - she's invited the author of this month's book to join us tonight.

TOD: I miss pimiento cheese. I know you find it in the Deep South everywhere, but there are only a couple of places in San Antonio where you can get a good pimento cheese sandwich. And I just don't make it often enough.

There was a local radio personality, Gerri Hart, who had a daily talk show and was very supportive of (and active in) our community theatre. Her theme song was "Bluesette," played by studio pianists Charlie Reeder and Bill Eisele. Here she is with our very own DR Elmore on July 4, 1976:

I hope the heat wave is over soon. Out here we are used to heat and prepared for it. And it is a totally different thing -- that humidity plus heat is miserable.

Today is supposedly the peak of this heat wave. Mid-90s with a heat index of over 100 expected here, though it absolutely felt like that yesterday already.

I don't do no delivery. But since you're in Louisville, don't the grocery stores sell pimiento cheese in their refrigerated sections?

Apropos the "Rolling Stone" magazine cover discussed by DRs yesterday:
The cover, promoting a story about how Tsarnaev fell into radical Islam, flatly calls him a “monster.” But the mayor of Boston and some bombing victims said it was insensitive, and three national drugstore chains (Walgreens, CVS, and Rite-Aid) announced that they would refuse to carry the issue.

I don't think I have ever had the chance to sample pimiento cheese.

Okay, here's a little something re the notes:
Yrs Truly being served a crepe at THE MAGIC PAN, Beverly Hills, snapshot dated July 1974. My friend worked there, so that's the one I was in most often, as those were also the years when I was both living and working right there.
I'd like to find a menu to recall all my favorite crepes. I remember a couple of them, but not in detail. And the spinach salad.
I introduced a lot of people to The Magic Pan, including my folks in Cincinnati. We were all pretty loyal customers, and it was a dark day when the chain eventually imploded due to way-too-fast expansion.

Those glasses are coming back in style.
-
I wouldn't mind it if they do come back in style. The huge frames of the late 70s, early 80s. With that kind of real estate available, we might actually be able to have lenses that will let us see things again.

LOVE THAT HAIR!!!!!

No menus on eBay at present, just some more matchbook covers.
From Wiki:
Among the menu items were crêpes filled with spinach souffle, chicken divan, crepe suzette, strawberries and sour cream, chantilly, and "cherry royale".
Those were definitely two of my favorite dinner crepes.

I also liked Pimento Cheese....slices....most entertaining to look at as well. Now and then you can get a Pimento Cheese spread at a deli.....but there's lots of EXTRA stuff in it....

OH, I had a 28 inch waist once. That was at least 6 inches ago, however.

Actually, I never want to be as skinny as I was in my 20s. Just skin and bone. I am ok with how I am now, just wish certain parts were firmed up a bit more. My doctor, on the other hand, would like me to lose 20 lbs. I shall try...one of these days.

More re the restaurants and food:
BK, why did Lawry's move across the street, however many years ago that was? I'm looking at the website where they have a few pictures of the current interior, and it's nice and all that, certainly in the spirit of the old, but -- of course it's not quite the same. That was SUCH a special thing, going to Lawry's, and partly for that special ambiance. And today's prices .... wow.
-
Four!

Hee, hee! That truly is how you were dressed when I first met you in NYC, when I got off of the bus. Of course you were holding that big sign that said "go back home."
I never did figure that one out.
-
I can't remember exactly why Lawry's moved across the street but I believe it happened sometime in the early 1970s. They moved into what was, in my childhood, Richlor's, another great place - I have a menu - we ate at Richlor's much more than Lawry's actually.
-
Adorable photo DR ELMORE....certainly they knew how to dress children here in the Midwest!
-
A few more notes:
I certainly remember enjoying Chicken Kiev, but with no particular restaurant in mind. Corned Beef Hash, too, but that's a tricky dish. And since having it at the Carnegie Deli, I've been spoiled ever since. I think it's high time I had another.
A&W -- thankfully, alive and well, if at horribly modern little jernts shared with Long John Silver's. But I can assure you all that the root beer in frosty mugs is as wonderful as when I discovered it at the actual A&W drive-ins in Fort Lauderdale, ca 1962. (I later enjoyed same at an A&W drive-in out on Wilshire (I think) in Santa Monica (I think). There is still a wonderful original A&W stand in Lake George, NY.

I love all the photos! Keep 'em comin'! ;D

Well, the new copies of the UK The Cuckoo's Calling have flooded the market and all those eBay sellers who were praying they'd be first editions are done for - they say "Reprinted (twice). So, now they all have to say "first edition, later printing" which is, of course, nonsense. Once a book goes into a subsequent printing it is not a first edition. But these people aren't really dealers so what do they know. It's also interesting that UK firsts seem to have topped out - there are two up with Buy it Now on them - they've been unsold for two days and the price is just around a thousand. Also, a bunch of dealers who were clearly stating the first edition only had a run of 1500 have stopped saying that - because from the get-go what the publisher was saying was it had SOLD only about that number - that doesn't mean the number of books printed was that number. However, anything under 5,000 will keep it a rarity that will either hold where it is or eventually go up if she continues to write this series, which she says she is. There are tons of UK firsts now on eBay, few with Buy It Now, just hoping it will go insane in the last minutes of those auctions. It will be interesting to see where they end up. The bids range from a couple hundred to about six hundred, but I would be surprised if any closed at those prices. Meanwhile, the ABE still has almost no copies at all and they've sold several at 1500, which is why those 1,000 copies with Buy it Now not selling is kind of interesting. There is also a signed copy up at a more reasonable price - just over two, but that seller took away the Buy It Now option, so no one will be getting that. I'd like to know just how many she signed.
-

If I'm not totally screwed up with this one particular memory, they were still in there as late as 1987. The move happened either soon thereafter, or even after I'd left L.A. in mid-1989. Now of course we have to find out.

Also, re A&W, the cheeseburger there is actually one of my favorite "ordinary" cheeseburgers anywhere, and I still identify the ones now with those enjoyed in the 1960s.

That Piece o' Pizza looks SO familiar, even if I'm not sure I ever had any from there. But if it was that ubiquitous, I probably did. My favorite pizza in my earlier California days was at the Two Guys From Italy behind Hollywood Blvd. near Las Palmas. It might not have been anything special, but I loved it. But I really loved that little jernt.

She might be!

In November of 1971 I was 18 years old and had graduated from high school the previous June (1971). I was not, at that time, going to University.
You, BlingSaw, are a mere child :D

I think so!

Hey, get a load of this site.

Damn, that was a nice looking building.

That site places my Santa Monica A&W on Santa Monica Blvd.

I think so!
I thought so to, but it's not on the site, even if it is sold out. Was going to mention it on the Forgotten Musical's thread about "Aldonza's" and then plug Kritzerland to be able to purchase it. But if it's sold out, then I won't bother.

I don't think I have ever had the chance to sample pimiento cheese.
Neither have I, nor have I ever even heard of it.

I guess DR George and I are the only philistines. :)

The best crepes I can recall were at a street along the faux boulevard in the Paris hotel in Vegas. Or maybe it was just the idea of having a crepe in the Paris hotel in Vegas that made them taste so good.

Best out of fashion food: the McRib

The McRib is always out of fashion, but always comes back for short promotional visits. I haven't had one in a while, but remember going crazy over them.

One food cooking method I wish would come back is french fries deep-fried in actual beef tallow, the way so many of them - including those at McDonald's - used to be routinely cooked. I realize that isn't everyone's idea of a healthful food, and of course it doesn't work for vegetarians. But they were more delicious than just about any you can find nowadays, and probably contributed to the decades-long popularity of McDonald's fries as much as anything did.
(Speaking of healthful, one article in The New Yorker some years back suggested that these would actually be more healthy for you than some of those cooked in whatever they use now.)
Oh--and in that vein, the style of burgers and fries at the extinct Dolores Restaurant -- especially at the original drive-in, though for the first few years following its demise you could still enjoy the food at the Dolores West. These items were unique and exceptional in goodness...and almost impossible to describe to anyone who never had the pleasure. On the subject of french fries, their Suzy-Q fries were, again, better than anything. They were the first "curly" fry I knew, and not like anything you get now with curly fries. No silly spices (which seems to be synonymous with curly fries nowadays). Just the best, most luscious chains of deep-fried goodness you ever tasted. There's nothing I can say here that would do them justice.

I'm stepping out tonight to see a play UNBROKEN CIRCLE, at St Lukes. It sounds interesting, and it will be fun to spend time with DJ, my Christmas Up the Holler partner.

Hello, all!
I DO remember Piece O' Pizza and their slogan. I wasn't living here, but I was touring through in the early 80's with Herschel Bernardi in "Fiddler on the Roof". When we played the Pantages, we first discovered Big Weenies down on Wilcox, with their main logo of a 50's girl in a bikini straddling a hot dog, along with all of their bumper stickers that read "Eat a Big Weenie", and "Big Weenies are Better".
On the heels of that, I saw the first bumper sticker for Piece O' Pizza that said "Have You Had a Piece Lately". I thought I had landed in Double Entendre' Wonderland. :)

Hee, hee! That truly is how you were dressed when I first met you in NYC, when I got off of the bus. Of course you were holding that big sign that said "go back home."
I never did figure that one out.
;D

I can't remember exactly why Lawry's moved across the street but I believe it happened sometime in the early 1970s. They moved into what was, in my childhood, Richlor's, another great place - I have a menu - we ate at Richlor's much more than Lawry's actually.
Isn't the current location larger than the original one?
-
That's the problem. I'm in Texas. No Benedictine. No beer cheese. No good pimiento cheese.
Golly. How long have you lived there?

I would guess they took the opportunity to up-size when they moved, but I've never been in the current one.
One update to my earlier post: the Lawry's dinner conversation I'm remembering puts that particular visit in September 1986, not 1987 or any time later. I'm 99% certain about this now. But I'll keep thinking about it.

Back from a fun lunch meeting, banking, and shockingly picking up no packages - of course, UPS hasn't even been there yet, so I suppose something could arrive.
-
Of course Kritzerland released Cry for Us All. It had almost sold out when we were contacted by a lawyer representing someone involved in the original production - they thought THEY owned the rights to the score. Our lawyer patiently explained that while they may own the rights to the show and score for copyright and performance purposes, they most assuredly did not own the rights to the album masters. Their lawyer was such a jerk and just kept on keeping on trying to get money out of us, that I finally told my lawyer, "Look, we've sold almost the entire run - I'm just removing it completely from the site and tell them to go take a flying leap." He did, and that was the end of that.

Thanks for that clarification. Those of us that purchased the CD when it was available are thankful for the release.

We went to Lawry's more after the move than before. My mother's prime rib & yorkshire pudding was better than their's. I've always liked their seasoning.
My father had a few birthday gatherings at Lawry's including his last party when he turned 90.

The official publication date was April 30, 2013. The library where I work placed our order for four copies on March 26, 2013. That means we got the official first edition! HOWEVER, they've been stamped and "libraried," so they're not "collectible" at all.

Just found this, circa 1983, having mentioned it in my earlier post.

Hello Everyone:
TOD:
I still love grilled cheese sandwiches and creamed tuna on toast.
I know you can get a grilled cheese sandwich still but i never see creamed tuna on toast.
My favorite is still Hot fudge Sundae.

Hello, everyone.
BLUESETTE has always been a favorite of mine. Yes, nice job, BK. I appreciate BK's fine diction, too.

Hi Brother Kevin!

I'm surprised Bruce knows about the Piece o' Pizza near me. I've never eaten in that one, but I drive by it frequently. I'm surprised it has survived.

Speaking of hot fudge , We are going out soon for some.

Goodbye for now!

Perhaps Jeanne will finally leave her home environment and meet me at the Piece o' Pizza. If I had said "Had a piece lately" to her back in 1962 when we met she would have hit me.

Back from picking up one package that arrived right after I left before. So, now tonight I can watch the new Brian de Palma film Passion, unreleased in the US and already on Blu and Ray overseas - does not bode well, but we shall see.

I'm sorry to say I never had a Big Weenie.

I vaguely remember Big Weenies.

Twitter would not have shut her down. And nothing she wrote was incorrect.

I also remember having a piece lately, but that was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
-
I remember THE MAGIC PAN. I didn't go there frequently, but was sorry to see them go. I've looked for a good crepe place here. There are a couple, but nothing outstanding. Of course, the Farmer's Market place is fun just because it's in Farmer's Market.

I guess I'd best do a jog while the doin' is good.

If I had said "Had a piece lately" to her back in 1962 when we met she would have hit me.

I used to love The Magic Pan. I remember the spinach soufflé and ratatouille crepes and a vanilla ice cream, chocolate and coconut dessert crepe. Delicious!
-
TOD 2: I miss really good old-fashioned ice cream sodas, especially the kind with cherries and vanilla ice cream, a squirt of syrup and soda water.
-
Listening to a new Kritzerland project, that will most likely end up a two CD set. What great music it is, sounding really kind of amazing for films over sixty years old. This project celebrates one film director at one studio with scores by two composers (one composer represented by one score and the other composer represented by four scores). This is something I fought to do and am thrilled it's come out so well. The score that would open disc one needs some sequencing care because the film sequence just doesn't quite work, but I think I figured that out - swapping four tracks for a more pleasant listening experience.

DR Chas, your Lawry's link included an old favorite of mine, Zito's. It was on Pico Blvd, a few blocks west of Westwood. A neighboring Italian family took me there when I was maybe ten years old and I fell in love with their food. That is where I developed a taste for really tangy Italian salad dressing. I do miss that place!

I tried to buy The Washington Post at the Metro station this morning, but the door of the newspaper machine wouldn't open. My five quarters came out when I pushed the button, though. Then I got to DC and tried to use another machine. This time I only got three quarters back. Then I looked at the "quarters" and saw that one of them was a 10 pence coin I had left over from my trip to England. I don't know if the other two coins were quarters or not! In my defense, the coins are the same size.

I was just talking to someone yesterday about wanting to find some ice cream sodas, and to the best of our knowledge, the only place around here that you can PROBABLY get a halfway decent authentic one would be Denny's. Isn't that sad? And maybe Friendly's, which is a place I've been to all of once or twice in my life.

Of course, it's quite possible that Bruce could have said all sorts of things to me then that went over my head. I do still remember your Jackie Mason joke, do you? (That was about 1965, I think.)

DR ChasSmith - is the Marcus Dairy at the entrance to the Danbury Fair Mall no longer? I would have thought that they'd have wonderful ice cream sodas...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Marcus Dairy is no more. They sold to a developer a couple of years ago, and the site is now "The Shops at Marcus Dairy". Completely rebuilt, of course. Only the historic silo remains. Whole Foods (the city's first), a Petco, couple of other things.
You know what an incredible bikers' hangout it was, right? They've had no such place to go on Sundays since it closed, but I just heard that they're about to reinstate the tradition, to be held in the parking lot next to the aforementioned silo.

She goes on for eight minutes, relating the various ways she and her husband got the ideas for the restaurant, in Paris, New York, etc. etc. -- and never once acknowledges a 240-store chain called "The Magic Pan" that was there first. I don't know which is worse -- to think she doesn't wish to acknowledge it, or to think she never even heard of it. Maybe I just believe too much in researching things.

I'm off to one of three more performances of Into the Woods in the woods
The first Into the Woods I ever saw was in the woods. (At the same outdoor venue I just played the R&H show in.)

Re: the JK Rowling leak:
The BBC's article today said that Gossage, the law partner, told his wife, who then blabbed to her friend, and the blabee then tweeted. I can understand the partner telling his wife, but she must have understood that this is privileged information, as must the blabee. I'm not usually a litigious person, but I really would like to see a lawsuit here. Ms Rowling can give any proceeds to charity. I've known too many people who delight in disclosing private information, in a "I knew this before you did" kind of way. The information would have come out eventually, but I still feel it is an outrage.

Me too, actually, but a different outdoor theatre, I'm sure. This was in the Oakland hills in 1994.

DR Chas I'm not sure how you were able to watch/listen to her all the way through. With her accent I'm guessing she never heard of our Magic Pan. It wasn't the only crepe restaurant in the world ;)

This is me back in 1971.

Yes, but I don't know how the woman who tweeted can be legally liable for this and, IMHO, she is the one who should pay for this.

Back from picking up one package that arrived right after I left before. So, now tonight I can watch the new Brian de Palma film Passion, unreleased in the US and already on Blu and Ray overseas - does not bode well, but we shall see.
Brian de Palma made a movie of the musical?? Cool!
;)

Nice! Is that in Cherbourg? ;D

Their lawyer was such a jerk and just kept on keeping on trying to get money out of us, that I finally told my lawyer, "Look, we've sold almost the entire run - I'm just removing it completely from the site and tell them to go take a flying leap." He did, and that was the end of that.
so we have "rare copies". Maybe we can sell them for $1,000.00.

It's supposed to be in theaters on August 30th. FYI it's a remake of 2010 film Love Crime with Kristen Scott Thomas

No, but she was in the U.S., too, and it was a major chain that, for one brief shining moment, was all the rage. If she'd called her restaurant anything but that, we wouldn't even know about it. I guess what my question really should be is: how many creperies in the world have used "Magic Pan" in their name? Has that been a common thing, either before or after "ours"? I realize it's hardly worth thinking about.
-
I suppose I stopped listening before she mentioned the US. It is an unusual name for a creperies. I would have expected a French name from her beginning comments.
-
Jeanne, which Jackie joke? I knew 'em all.
-
Yikes. Was one of them Lee Farm Corporate Park? That's where I worked from 1989 till 2002.
Yes, indeed! With that overpriced cafe in the basement! But I think I was there a few years after you.
-
Back from a three-mile jog - brisker than usual, for whatever reasons.
-
I give up, first photo was too big and the second one didn't work-lol

It was in different hands by then. The woman who ran it for several years either sold it, or leased it out to the gal who had worked for her when I was there, and I understand they kept trying to upscale it. But it always seemed overpriced, regardless of the ownership and the selection of food.
-
I give up, first photo was too big and the second one didn't work-lol
Oh, but the link worked, so I saw it! :)
And that one just closed, after twenty years! But it doesn't look like it was a crepe restaurant.
-
I haven't had a crepe in years and now I'm in the mood for one. I used to make artichoke hear crepes.
-
Those, in fact, were the very years I was introduced to artichokes, and boy do I love them.
-
Which is exceedingly difficult, because artichokes don't have ears. ;)
-
Sorry, DR Jane. I just couldn't resist. 8)

LOL. I am tempted to go back and change that to heart so you look silly instead of me ;)
-
I have been glued to the computer waiting for news that a friend's daughter came through surgery ok. She did and now I need to stretch. I think I shall go outside and see if I can spot Little Harold our young hare that lives under a big bush along the side of the house.

Here's a bit of the background behind the J.K. Rowling leak (and it wasn't Rowling):
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/18/jk-rowling-leak_n_3617724.html?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009 (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/18/jk-rowling-leak_n_3617724.html?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009)
I feel bad for the lawyer. I expect the lawyer & his wife are no longer friends with the tweeter.
I'm sort of confused why she is so mad. She had a book that sold nothing. And now it is going through the roof in sales. I know she is mega-rich and doesn't care about the money. But as an author wouldn't she want people to actually read it? I would think she would be happy now that everyone knows (and she didn't have the pressures while writing it).

I think that she didn't want people to know that "J.K. Rowling" wrote another book. She probably wanted it to stand on its own merits and not have readers/reviewers have a certain expectation about how well it was going to be. I'm sure that a lot of people will love it only because she wrote it and she wrote the Harry Potter books, so it has to be good, regardless of how they would actually feel about it if they just read some unknown author's first book. I don't think that it really has anything to do with how many people read or will read the book, but how much they liked it.

Just my 2¢. :)

There's still a fairly good crepe place at the Farmer's Market. I think I'll go down there next week and have one.

I agree with DR George's 2¢.

I just put a baby Junco back in the nest. I hope I did the right thing.

A&W (http://www.awrestaurants.com/)
We have an A & W
-
I am not going to sleep tonight worrying about the birds. I saw the mother check the nest once and then fly away.

And I put the baby on top of three others that were sleeping in the nest. It has got to be crowded in there with 4 babies.
-
A&W (http://www.awrestaurants.com/)
We have an A & W
There's one in Centralia, about a half hour south of here, and several up in the Tacoma area.
-
I'm very relieved, a bird friend in PA just told me I did the right thing. This is the friend who had the huge bird cage we raised the baby Robbins in.
-
I am home from a round of southern discomfort gothic Galveston TX family, UNBROKEN CIRCLE, which deals with the day of, and morning after, the funeral of a man who can only be called a creep, wife abuser and child molester. Given the fact that so many awful family sins and insults to humanity are dredged up, the play is outrageously funny. I had a great time, and it was great to hang out with DJ before the performance.
-

The baby has a much better chance in the nest than it did out of the nest. You did the right thing

What ever happened to potato skins with lots of cheese, onions, bacon and sour cream? Ok they are terrible for you, but I love them and don't see them anymore

There is a crepe joint within a 10 minute walk from my abode. I'll see if I can get a photo to post later.
I don't need no dang photo - get me a crepe!!!

Well, I must be off. It's time for me to leave and I have some TV watching to do.
Be back later. :)

I am enjoying the new tv series DEVIOUS MAIDS, particularly for the fact that former MELROSE PLACE star Grant Show is one of the featured players. Man, has he aged well!!!
And Richard Burgi, formerly of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES was in Sunday night's episode. I love that man and plan to marry him someday he is such a good actor.

My fashion sense has changed little in 65 years.
Hee, hee! That truly is how you were dressed when I first met you in NYC, when I got off of the bus. Of course you were holding that big sign that said "go back home."
I never did figure that one out.
LOL

My hubby still speaks longingly of "chips made in beef drippings"
-
there used to be chain of crepe places in these parts called La Crepe---- I loved them

Finished viewing for the evening.

DR George, as I read DR Cillaliz's post about potato skins, I instantly pictured T.G.I. Friday's as one of the quintessential places for that! :)
Great minds, etc.

I get the skins in the freezer from time to time. I think Applebees may have them too, but they are few and far between these days

Yep. A&W isn't just everywhere like it seemed to be in its original incarnation, but it's alive and well and totally worth going to if it's something you liked.

Went out dancing for a short time at a country-western bar after dance class tonight. I need to do that more often. It was fun.
-
Gilley's! :)
-
Well, that's it for me.
And if I don't dream about food tonight, I'd like to know the reason why.

Los Angeles. November, 1971. I don't know why I am wearing what appears to be my mother's fur coat.

Cute photo, Ding Dong!

What a faboo day of postings, I must say.
-
DR Chas, your Lawry's link included an old favorite of mine, Zito's. It was on Pico Blvd, a few blocks west of Westwood. A neighboring Italian family took me there when I was maybe ten years old and I fell in love with their food. That is where I developed a taste for really tangy Italian salad dressing. I do miss that place!
Oh man, I had a lot of Zito's when I was a teenager.
-
Ended up watching a second motion picture for reasons I'll explain in the notes.
-
Shall we go for 300? We're not that far off, you know.

I gotta tell you.

But I won't.

Was that a baby Jerome Robbins?
-
Listening to what I was listening to before - it just gets better and better.
-
I do believe we WILL make 300. I think every day should be a food nostalgia day, don't you?
-
I get the skins in the freezer from time to time. I think Applebees may have them too, but they are few and far between these days
We don't have any TGI Fridays around here any more.
-
TCB ... no news
And no answer from the credit union. I guess I should stop ordering those bootleg Kritzerland CD's from you.
-
I have got to go.
G'night!
-
Show was good tonight for a Thursday. Nice crowd. Had to wear a knit cap to cover my now shorn head as it got colder as the night went on, which really works well for this show.
-
Can we make it to 300?
-
Maybe we can.

I got my ticket for the D23 Expo in Anaheim in August in the mail today. D23 is the Disney sponsored fan club. It's a 3 day things with talks, presentations, and of course, stuff to buy. Also, there are two concerts this year, one with Ashley Brown and one with Alan Menkin and Richard Sherman. If I have to stand in line all day for these concerts, I will. They are both worth the trip down.
-
Page 11 dance!!! And post 301

And I'm done. Good night.

Wow...the world really is changing: Lesbian beauty queen ready for Miss South Carolina Pageant (http://nbclatino.com/2013/07/08/lesbian-biracial-beauty-queen-ready-for-miss-south-carolina-pageant/)!
For the first time in history, the pageant has an openly gay contestant. She’s also multi-racial, and many are calling her the new face of the south.
Her name is Analouisa Valencia.
It’s take two for beauty queen Valencia, who will compete against 48 other contestants next week to win the title of Miss South Carolina.
“Last year, I did compete at state, but I wasn’t as comfortable because of the fact I was hiding who I was,” says Valencia.
“This is my first year coming out and saying, ‘This is me, girls. Sorry, I’m going to be changing in the same dressing room as you. This is what’s going to happen.’”
:D
