DR Ron Pulliam - the irony is that she and I park in a similar lot here in downtown Dayton.  She and I first visited Asheville together, following a conference in Charlotte in 2000.  I've been back once, on a AAA bus tour with my mom in December 2001, the highlight of which was a candlelight tour of Biltmore.

Ahhh...that must have been lovely.  I've toured Biltmore several times.  My goal is to visit at Christmas.

I don't know if you ever saw/visited "All Souls Episcopal" in Biltmore...it was built by Vanderbilt at the time the house was built.  Most of the fittings, including all the stained glass, was bought in Europe...all priceless.  It's still my church of record...I joined that church when I was in college.

TOD:

...the dog in DOWN AND OUT IN BEVERLY HILLS...
Are you referring to Mike the Dog as Matisse, or to Nick Nolte as Jerry Baskin?

They shared the same dish, after all.

Has anyone read or heard anything about Rita Wilson's performance as Roxie Hart in "Chicago" on Broadway?

I know she took over the role a week or two back...but haven't seen or heard a thing.

They've extended her run by a week, but that's not really saying anything one way or another. (Haven't heard about who is supposed to follow her, either.)

I am at work and I am very, very bored.

I am also quite sleepy, despite being on my 5th cup of coffee.

I have been exchanging e-mails with DR Rodzinski on the subject of W.C Fields movies and Japanese giant monster/superhero TV shows of the 70s.

That perked me up a bit, but I would still love to be at home taking a nap on my couch.

I've been enjoying reading everyone's posts about favorite animal performances and I have to agree with Cillaliz- Babe the pig.  I also particularly enjoyed the performances of the cat and singing mice.  All in all an enjoyable animal ensemble.

Does Animal from the Muppets count as an animal performance?  If so, he's on my list.

Flipper in the old TV series is a favorite and Daisy the dog in the old Blondie movies was quite talented.

I'll bet you and DR Rodz are discussing THE SPACE GIANTS.  I remember liking that one a lot until something changed in the latter episodes.  I can't recall what it was, but there was some kind of change that made me drop it from my daily viewing.

Is this on DVD?

Frankly, Mike, I'm surprised you even noticed Flipper.  So much eye-candy elsewhere!

Wow, what a roller coaster ride this morning has been!  My dad has been admitted to hospital and put on IV.  The diagnosis seems to be he's dehydrated from all the nausea and other gastric reactions to the chemo.  My brother Tom called me from his hospital room and I got to speak to him.  He says he's fine, which I'm taking with a big grain of salt, but Tom says he looks better now than he has for the past two weeks.  This calmed me down quite a lot, but I have decided to make a 2-week visit to Ohio next week, during which I may be E&T more than I like.  I'm going to rebook my July flight to June 28, give my brothers and sisters-in-law a break, sit around and ponder the universe with my father, and hoepfully see a few friends.

Thank you all for the vibes and support.

Thanks, DR Ron Pulliam!  When I  think of my dad, I think of Lear's Act 5 speech to Cordelia:

We two alone will sing like birds i' the cage:
When thou dost ask me blessing, I'll kneel down,
And ask of thee forgiveness: so we'll live,
And pray, and sing, and tell old tales, and laugh
At gilded butterflies, and hear poor rogues
Talk of court news; and we'll talk with them too,
Who loses and who wins; who's in, who's out;
And take upon's the mystery of things,
As if we were God's spies: and we'll wear out,
In a wall'd prison, packs and sects of great ones,
That ebb and flow by the moon.

Such a polite break-in artist. I always thought, hey if you gotta be a burglar, I can understand that, but if you don't find anything, don't just wreck stuff. It sounds like this thief is living by that code.

So, exactly where were you last night, Rodzinski?

I have had a VALLEY OF THE DOLLS orgy this afternoon here. I've watched the movie twice. The first time just to love the movie all over again. The second time to hear the commentary between Ted Casablanca and Barbara Parkins. Some interesting information, but I was very dispppointed Ted Casablanca would come to a screening of the film to record a commentary and not have all the facts of the film at his disposal.

DR Elmore - We will, of course, be glad to see you.  I have some suggestions for helping you alleviate the E&T-ness - there are a few places out near your dad's end of town that have computers for customers (just buy a cup of coffee) - and there's always Chez Palmer, where Macs abound!  See you soon.

Then I went to the special features disc and watched Tony Scotti sing "A Man and a Woman" and Barbara Parkins do the "Sparkle, Neely, sparkle" scene from the film (she auditioned for the role of Neely, not Anne!).

I also listened to the soundtrack album on the DVD and still maintain that Eileen Wilson does a better job singing "I'll Plant My Own Tree" on the soundtrack than Margaret Whiting did in the film. (Even Ted Casablanca admitted in the commentary that he didn't think Margaret Whiting sang all that well in the film.)

I have seen the "Backstory" special when it was on AMC, but I'll watch it again this evening.
