And the cuisine of Australia is....?

;)

...ostrich burgers and kangaroo sausages?
HUH???

Austrailian cuisine starts with it's English heritage, but rapidly expands from there, heavily influenced by it's Asian neighbors but also by immigration from Greece, Italy, Lebanon, and other nations.  Add the abundant seafood available, lots of fresh produce, and an active lifestyle, and you end up with a healthful, vibrant fusion cuisine that many other nations should try to emulate.

Think of it as California cuisine done right.

Except for the vegemite.  That just doesn't make sense.

The participants in the air race are all women -- many pioneers in women's aviation. The woman from my congregation is 88, and has very impressive aviation credentials.

DR GINNY I posted the CHOCOLATE dates the other day....let me know if you need them again.  DR CP is not commenting, so my guess is, he is uninterested in the trip....Kentucky being lovely this time of year.

TWINKIES used to be my favorite Hostess treat, but some years ago they suddenly began tasting like vitamins or something....not enough sugar, I think...or something!

Very possibly! I can't recall which one she said it was. And now I am wondering why she would have been home watching a soap opera instead of being at school? Hmmmmm!

Interestingly, I read somewhere that the single most common memory of where people were at the time of the announcement that Kennedy had been shot; was watching As The World Turns -- even with people who never watched soap operas.

The memory is actually a result of watching and rewatching the replay that was shown repeatedly during the days and weeks following the assasination, which included a clip from ASWT being interupted by Walter Cronkite.  Even though I never watched ASWT,  I can still see that scene from the show which featured Don Hastings as Dr. Bob Hughes.

Spent the entirety of this afternoon with the DVD of THE DOLLY SISTERS. I first watched the film all the way through.

Then, I rewatched it with Dr. Drew Casper's commentary. He has interesting facts, but he's rather like the absent minded professor repeating himself occasionally and occasionally dithering in his speech just a mite. Whoever laid this commentary down for the DVD could have done just a tiny little bit of editing to not make him sound the tiniest bit overwhelmed with the number of words he wants to say.

BTW, THE DOLLY SISTERS looks better than the DVD-R I had burned from the Fox Movie Channel broadcast. It went into the trash last week in anticipation of the arrival of this commercial DVD.

Tonight, I plan to watch THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA in order to clear it off the DVR.

The DVR is capturing the HD-Showtime presentation of BE COOL which I never saw at the theaters last year and will watch at some point this week. I wasn't a huge fan of GET SHORTY, but I liked it eough to see the characters continue in this sequel.

I'm on the phone with US Air, and they are pigs!  They claim that since my new flight is less that 14 days from today, I need to pay them an additional  $144, making the trip $396!  As for bereavement or medical reasons, I can go fuck myself.  Am I happy?  Oh, yeah.

Congrats to Vixmom.

elmore, I hope you told them a thing or three.

The Dolly Sisters - I was disappointed in all of the current Grable box in terms of color - they're all a bit lackluster, with none of them reaching the heights of Down Argentine Way.  As for Professor Casper, he is one of the most pedantic and irrititating people I've ever had the displeasure to waste my time listening to.

Actually, it's worse!  The assholes want to charge me an additional $100 for changing the reservation, making it $496!  This is outrageous, and I will not pay it.   I've spoken to the manager of the department and her attitude is screw you.

I'm keeping the original reservation for July 18, and booking my next flight on United Airlines instead of US Air.  Right now I am livid and angry beyond belief.

I'm sure you meant WEEK-END IN HAVANA since DOWN ARGENTINE WAY is in the Grable box.

Yes, Weekend in Havana - that looks great, and much better than anything in the current box - transfers are all sharp, but the color is off and nothing pops the way it should.

elmore, do write a really nasty note to the corporate offices of US Air.

I wonder if the engineers at the DVD processing factory are tuning the color down on purpose? WEEK-END IN HAVANA is the only one that's had that truly rich saturation, and I watched THE GANG'S ALL HERE on the Fox Movie Channel last week, and it's not deeply saturated either which leads me to suspect that the upcoming DVD of it won't be as well.
