Mawnin', y'all!
Most luxurious thing I've ever done for myself... stayed in showbiz, in spite of low earnings, unemployment, no insurance, no kids, no home, etc. The trade0off's leave no regrets - I've had lots of free time, when i DO work it's incredibly uplifting, satisfying, fulfilling; my colleagues are Artists; my family respects and enjoys what I do; my friends have always shown support and love - whatta wonderful life! That's a luxury that many people have told me they covet - and some "civilian" friends have taken my example, and just dropped out of society to live a simple and satisfying existence, doing Summer Vacation the rest of their lives.
AND - years ago my parents gave me a pearl necklace as a birthday gift. Well, I lost it - right off my neck - one night when I wore it to the theatah. I never told them I lost it. And I grieved. Often. So, recently, after they died, I bought myself a pearl necklace just like the one they had given me, to replace it! Very expensive - the most extravagant gift I have ever given myself - but, actually, it was THEIR money... THEY replaced it, after death. I take it out and look at it, touch it, wear it whenever the occasion allows - which, sometimes, is when I'm sitting at my desk, writing!!!
