Here's a Review of CANNIBAL

Quote
Cannibal! The Musical embraces its moral decay with bloodstained arms wide open. After all, this is a musical comedy about the only American ever convicted of crimes connected to cannibalism.
The musical is based on a film by Trey Parker, who would go on to greater fame as the co-creator of "South Park." Like the animated show, Cannibal doesn’t pull any punches. And like the show, it is quite uneven - brilliant moments are slapped next to awful jokes that are sandwiched by bits that just don’t work at all. Still, the youthful performers in the Mechanical Division (who did the adaptation for this production) have plenty of fun with their grisly material.

We follow Alferd Packer, a hopeless guide who leads a party of five on a winter trek into the Rocky Mountains. He has a simple life - dedicated to finding gold and taking care of beloved horse, Liane - that is turned upside down by the trip. Of course, he at least doesn’t end up as dinner.

The material takes shots at the conventions of musicals, the legends of the old west and the unrelenting cheerfulness of the characters, even as they face impending doom. There are some wonderful moments here, including the near show-stopping “Let’s Build a Snowman” (complete with tap dance solo); a bawdy number about a young man’s desire to have sex; and the finale, the self-explanatory “Let’s Hang the Bastard.”

There are also stretches where there is little more going on than the troupe of doomed miners wandering through the show’s spartan set. Cannibal loses much of its first-act energy at intermission, and doesn’t fully regain it until the end.

Yet the show was plenty of fun, and that was aided at the performance I viewed by a packed house who laughed, whooped and hollered with every twist and turn. It was also a youthful audience, which is important for the future of this art that we all love so much. While the older Theatre in the Round audience provides the essential backbone, it is the young audience at places like the Mechanical Division that will fill those seats in the future.

Hmmm, maybe in 20 years or so, we’ll see how Cannibal! The Musical would work in the round.

Isn't BETWEEN TWO WORLDS another version of the play OUTWARD BOUND?

I have that play in some collection:  GREAT BRITISH PLAYS ABOUT DEATH or some such title.

Yes, and OUTWARD BOUND is the title of the 1930s movie version...starring Ms. Helen Chandler...one very odd actress!

I sort of wonder if Boogie would have gone very far without Will being there. Erika made it on her own...Boogie rode on Will's coattails and only did Will's dirty work...and I don't like Boogie...so therefore I want Erika to win.

Big thanks to Mr BK and all those other HHW'ers out there in the dark for the "break a leg" wishes.  Our opening night was NEAR sell out (we are sold out tonight) - and the audience responded so well....and it was so VERY quiet during the last few moments.

Lots of tears....it's that kind of play....

So - off we go to Performance # 2.

\THE TRAGIC AND HORRIBLE LIFE OF THE SINGING NUN....I think it's a must see.

NY TIMES:

Quote
The Tragic and Horrible Life of the Singing Nun: NY Musical Theatre Festival

Off Broadway, The St. Clement's Theatre

PLOT DESCRIPTION
This is the dark, dangerous and hilarious story of the ill-fated nun who sang the Grammy-winning '60s hit 'Dominique-nique-nique.' Told through the eyes of a nun named Sister Coco Callmeishmael, 'Singing Nun' gazes through an irreverent pop-culture prism, pulling every candy-colored piece of Catholic Camp out of the box to recount Sister Smilie's uproariously funny, but ultimately tragic story of sky-rocketing fame and meteoric decline. — TheaterSource

But then, I may not end up being one of the eaters...or the eaten.  In the movie, there are some Indians who are played by Japanese people.  They have lines like (I only saw it once, so these aren't direct quotes), "See all our teepees?  We're Indians because we have teepees!" in very heavy Japanese accents.  It was quite funny.  Since no Japanese people auditioned (and Pug, the director, didn't expect there to be), she was possibly envisioning the Indians as Drag Queens (and I told her that I've done drag before...which I have)! ;)

Ok, TCB, take it and run!!!!

BB live feed minor spoiler.Would you still want her to win if she was back to kissing all over mike boogie?????

Granted she doesn't know the extent of his diary room sessions, but still she does know she was played.  Yet she is back to loving her boogie man again.

Yuck.

Yup I want her to win even more....he's still playing her.

Hey for once we agree, although i don't know if i really want erika to win anymore. she had me for a short while, but not anymore.

But that said, does anyone actually think erika will win? I don't.

It's a shame that janelle's hand came off that 1st hoh when she was startled by boogie jumping off. OR i think she would have had a good chance to win that final hoh. Although boogie did get them all right.

Btw, did anybody else see janelle on the Early show today. I cannot wait to listen to her housecalls episode. Anyhow she was really lovely on the morning show today. She really has a sweet sparkling personality.

I think Erika has a chance. What did Boogie do? Nothing but ride in on Will's coat tails.  Erika may have gone where the wind blew her but she is the one who convinced Janelle to vote out Will.   I think Janelle will support her and that may make a difference

LOL....yes DR derBRUCER that is yours truly looking SL....however I am looking at the Judge (not pictured) who is addressing the jury.  After this picture was taken I asked that my position be changed so that I am standing behind my chair looking at the judge.
