Off I go to pack the car - a few more items: The Garbage to take to the trash can at the gas station; this here computer; road food. Everything else is squished int there amidst my nephews STUFF, which I will unload in Santa Cruz on Tuesday. Back in LA by Wednesday night. And next week, the reading of the newest version of Jewish Thighs, music and lyrics by Bruce Kimmel. Oh, boy!

Happy Birthday, Donna! and many more.

I'm up, I'm up.

It's a new theremin, not one of the weird-looking old ones.  We'll probably build something to look like one of the weird-looking old ones, though, just for the prop.  The new theremin is a little wooden box with an antenna and it's played by moving the hand near and about the antenna.  They had sound samples on eBay and they were excellent.

My musical director will have to learn.  He looks like he SHOULD play the theremin!  It comes with handy-dandy instructions.

Happy Birthday, DR Donna!

I'm still tasting the delicious flavors from last night's dinner party (and smiling at some of the conversation about string theory and the unnatural coupling of cute dogs and stuffed sheep.)

I was up at 5 AM this morning to get ready for my volunteer gig at the annual Ovarian Cancer Walk. Had to be there by 6:30 - but needed to get ready and walk and feed the hound before I left.
Registering the Walkers/Runners is, I think, more exhausting than walking. Big line-ups and lots of paperwork, taking money, credit cards, checks. One of these years I'll do the walk/run. TThe woman sitting at my table registering walkers lost her beautiful 20-year-old daughter to the disease just a few months ago. And there she was, doing work, busy, smiling. The abillity of people to endure and carry on is astonishing and humbling. There were dozens of people walking in her daughter's honor -- her photo and name pinned on their T-shirts.

I'm alive and feeling better.   The antibiotics my doctor gave me Friday seem to be knocking out whatever little buggies were at work making me feel sickie-poo.

I'm suddenly in the mood for KFC....and I haven't had any in  several years.

Don't know why....I just want original recipe and some smashed taters.

One of the many strange topics that came up in the conversation last night was the fact that one of the Colonel's favorite places to eat in LA was Bob's Big Boy. Apparently he didn't much care for KFC.

I'm back from Toyland and watching the American Masters PBS broadcast on Leonard Bernstein:  the live footage of CANDIDE they're using is from the 1958 London production and must have been provided by the BBC.  I recognized Denis Quilley as Candide and Mary Costa as Cunegonde.  I wonder if there's a complete kinescope.  I want to see it all!

Well...after a lifetime of preparing and perfecting, and later hawking, fried chicken, I suppose he got tired of it.

Personally, I think KFC is not as good as it was back in the 60s and 70s.  It may be the way they raise the chickens...or perhaps they've changed something about the way they fry it.

But it's not quite as good as I used to find it.

I wish I could bake cookies & ship those, however we only send sealed items.  Not that he misses my baking, the kid can bake very well, just more fun for me to send something baked with love.

Ron-I’m so glad you are on the mend.

Maria-When you walk it would be nice to join you.  The story of the woman who lost her young daughter is very moving.  When Bryan was 19 he lost a classmate friend to ovarian cancer.  It is especially shocking when it happens so young.  I’m sure your heart went out to her.

BK, speaking of Fried Chicken, we never got to Ambers' Broasted Chicken, before I left.  We must on another trip out there.  Speaking of chicken, been to Bird's lately? I didn't notice a review for it among your others on Yelp.com.

CP-I’M finally reading THE MISTS OF AVALON.  Thank you for the suggestion.  It is rather large to read comfortably under the covers at night, slowing my progress a bit, but so far I’m enjoying it very much.

Next came the POITOR mystery "The Mystery of the Spanish Chest." One of the more guessable mysteries in the Christie short story canon, but the filmed version is still well done.

I watched a CSI episode from the third season boxed set. This one had to do with the death of a Down's syndrome cowboy. Sad story of prejudice.
