Well, you've read the notes, therefore you know the drill.  You know the drill, therefore you know the routine.
To it, I say.

I assume casting Mame with Lucille Ball would also be considered off-limits.  Or at least off key.

I'd like to cast Gary Coleman as Young Patrick, but that would require the addition of the line, "Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Mame?" at some point in the script.  Is that allowed?

I can't decide whether Harvey Fierstein & Leonard Nimoy should play the roles of Mame & Vera, or vice versa -- I see today's topic is going to require some more thought . . .

Oh dear....I was NOT nott again!  Oh well, TOMOVOZ obviously doesn't know talent....  ;D

Our young DR's are passing their tests and celebrating....DRPanni has a shining dog and lovely highlighted hair....Mr BK has three French hens....it must be almost Christmas!!!  ;D

Oh - I was just thinking of Mame yesterday, because I picked up a used copy on VHS in W I D E S C R E E N of Auntie Mame with RR!  I immediately forwarded to ONE of my favorite parts...Miss Joanna Barnes telling the ping pong ball story!!!! LOL.  :D

And Bad Casting for the musical would include:

Mame:  Mamie Van Doren

Beauregard: Cliff Robertson
Vera:  Fran Drescher

Gooch:  June Wilkinson (with apologies to her, because SHE is one of my favorites, but I am sure to make her look plain, what we would do in this production is make her wear glasses)

Patrick:  Gary Coleman and then Todd Bridges

Gloria:  James Van Der Beek

Pegeen:  Sean William Scott

LOL DR Sigerson Holmes we had the same thought at exactly the same time.  Spooky isn't it?  :o

Well, here we are in London. The computer set-up isn't the greatest but I wanted to post to say hello at least.

Anthony has been hit by some jet lag otherwise, things are great. The weather is wonderful and we are raring to go. We leave for Nottingham tomorrow to see friends for the weekend then back to London.

Tomovoz, thanks for the note.

Bye for now.

Excellent interview with Stephanie J. Block, BK. I had the pleasure of seeing her in Boy from Oz. When Isabel Keating made her entrance, the audience let out a collective gasp: it was as if we were seeing Judy Garland live at the Imperial. But Stephanie J. Block captured a Liza who, as SJB said in the interview, was not an icon at the time. It was fascinating to see her character develop along with her relationship and her career, and her final scene with Hugh Jackman/Peter Allen was moving. She has a great voice, and gave an honest performance.

I'll give today's casting call some more thought, but how does one improve on TomovOz's list?

Iwonder. . .

Where the three French hens singing the Jack Nicholson arrangement of  "La Vie en Rose?"  It's used over the end credits of his new movie, so I've heard.  I've also heard that people (namely critics) are surprised that Jack is singing!  Whassamattah with those critics? Don't they remember Ken Russell's TOMMY?! ?! ?! ?

TOM:I'd make a great Gloria Upson.  Absolutley top drawer.

And I'm also wondering if casting Lucy as Mame is off limits?

Snow here.

And Lucille Ball seemed like such a good idea.....and in the minority - the vast minority I may be - I liked her, but then I Love Lucy.

Okay this is as mean as I get.

We had a huge storm on Sunday night and my neighbor was using his snow tractor at midnight and making huge amounts of noise. Well his tractor (which annoys me) does not lift snow, it only pushes it.

And he pushed huge amounts of snow onto the street (which he is not allowed to do). HE put it beside my driveway, leaving a huge mess.

Well we had more snow last night.  And this morning the snow plow came and plowed that entire HUGE pile of snow from the street RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS DRIVEWAY.

It made me so happy :)

I have had 3 (three) cups of black coffee and yet I can still not wake up this morning! Work is a bore and the sun is actually shining! I would rather be someplace other then my cubicle.

Someone snap me out of this!

TCB, did you ever write to Ms. Provine and profess your love?

DR Jason and DR JRand53 will have packages soon on the way to them, I can just feel it!

Tomovoz will soon also have a package on it's way also, just as soon as I make my way to Best Buy to pick up some empty CD cases (I ran out last night)

Looking forward to reading the interview. Haven't had time to get to it yet. Running behind this morning because I spent a goodly portion of it watching on one of the HBO channels the documentary PARAGRAPH 175 on the Nazi persecution of homosexuals during the Holocaust. BENT gave us a dramatic taste of the story, and this documentary fills in lots of gaps. I will be getting the DVD of this for watching again. Also, there are some additional interviews on the DVD which I want to see.

MAME is unquestionably my favorite Jerry Herman musical, so to demean it seems SO WRONG. Of course, I'll do it anyway.

Mame - Brittney Spears
Vera - Jane Withers
Beaureguard - Robert Morse
Gloria Upson - Angela Lansbury
Young Patrick - Sean Hayes
Older Patrick -  Mickey Rooney
Gooch - Raquel Welch
Mr. Upson - Tom Cruise
Mrs. Upson - Gloria Stuart
Ito - Russell Crowe

So has everyone picked up their issue of Scarlet Street with articles/reviews/interviews/photos of/ect. with or by our very own JRand53, TD, Charles Pogue, BK, and myself?? Hurry to your local Borders, Barnes and Noble, or other newstand today and buy your copy of Scarlet Street!

Plenty of Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, and lots of beefcake (as supplied by Mark Forest, Gordon Scott, and Reg Lewis, and even Brent Barrett) packed into those pages!

I think my delight could perhaps only be surpassed by seeing said neighbor's reaction when he sees it :)

Btw, where are those digital camera binoculars when you need them? :)

I'll pass on MAME casting.  Between the news of P Diddy as Walter Lee Younger in A RASIN IN THE SUN and the sould of Lucy singing on the MAME Soundtrack and Roz singing on the Gypsy Soundtrack ringing in my ears I had it with real bad casting.
