Last night I watched the greatest documentary, BALLETS RUSSES

That sounds fantastic! I'll put it on my list, if I can find it! (I don't have Netflicks or I would never leave my house!)

The amazon listings for the book have been fixed, so if anyone was waiting to get the softcover version, it's now available.
I received my gorgeous, personally autographed hardcover copy today...I'm quite thrilled! And my first Guy Haines CD as well. The weekend is off to a good start!

DakotaCelt-Thanks for the Library of Congress info.  I’ve never been there & must do so during my next, and last trip to Bethesda.

Maria-Your trip sounds great.  Will we be seeing a new avatar soon?

I’m impressed the festival is in Playbill.  I don’t know anything about Libby Appel’s replacement; can only hope he is more of a traditionalist.

DRLaura-How cool & exciting to watch the owls take flight.

Cillaliz-If I had read the post yesterday I could have asked you to pick me up another WICKED shirt.  I practically live in mine during the summer.
I were there with you, at Ollie’s and the entire week.  It’s fun experiencing the week vicariously, at a bit sad knowing I’m not there.

Ben-Knowing you and Anthony had such a great experience eased my disappointment at missing the trip.

Last night I watched the greatest documentary, BALLETS RUSSES:  a history, with wonderful interviews with surviving dancers of the two feuding Ballets Russes companies founded in the early 1930s as one company, and footage from performances between 1933 and the late 1950s when both fnally fell apart.    I kept thinking of "Who's That Woman?" the great moment in FOLLIES when the old and new worlds collide as I watched clips of 13year-old Irina Baranova dancing in "The Good-Humored Ladies" followed by her interview in 2000, or 90 year-old Frederic Franklin dancing in "Gaite Parisienne" in the 1940s and teaching a class in 2000.

That is incredible!  Frederic Franklin was 90 years old in the 40s and he was still teaching in 2000???  Amazing!

Don't you have calls of a similar nature to make around the neighborhood?

No, I believe it is Mr. Barnum that prefers the ninety year old men.

Don't know if this is the book elmore is talking about, but there's a limited signed copy of his memoir for ninety-nine bucks on eBay.

Have some telephone conversations today that cut into viewing time.

I did watch the "train wreck" episode of GREY'S ANATOMY (this one makes me cry more than any other episode from last season, even the extremely emotional and moving episodes dealing with Denny's death).

My conference ended promptly at 3pm today.  I went to the Union Square Barnes & Noble and found the Christine Andreas My Fair Lady CD.  Caught the bus on 6th Ave., stopped at Starbuck's for a skim pumpkin spice latte (no whip), and got home in time to see the Michigan/Michigan State kick-off.  We're due at 6:30 for dinner at the home of our friends Doug & Jon, who live up by Lincoln Center.

DRs Elmore, Cillaliz, and jhvw - have a great fiesta dinner at La Cocina!

And I noticed that the DVR was picking up BEYOND THE SEA. I have never seen this Bobby Darin biography though I've read so many negative comments about it, I will have to see for myself as to its quality (or lack thereof).

I don't why it took TWO years to come to paycable (or at least to a paycable channel that I get.)

I had some households chores to do this morning, and I put on the original cast CD of GUYS & DOLLS in honor of Tony-winner Isabel Bigley who died earlier this week.

I hadb't listened to this version in a long time, so it was nice to hear it again.

I also put on the original cast of WONDERFUL TOWN, another I hadn't listened to in years. Again, nice to hear these songs as they were originally performed by their originators.

Hi everyone! There's a lot going on right now and I've been extremely low energy which is my excuse for being E&T.  I hope everyone is having a lovely visit in NYC.

We miss you, TPunk - we've got energy to spare here at haineshisway.com, so we'll send you some right this very minute!

Geez, I thought I was relaxing today and I haven't stopped going and doing since nine o'clock this morning.  I had to Xerox all the lead sheets from The Brain, then separate them into packets for the cast on Monday - that took a surprising amount of time - plus I delivered books to the store where I'm doing my signing, and just all sorts of other little things.
