Looking at Robert Altman's list of credits I can see that I have only seen two of his films...and I did not care for either one. However, I have seen a LOT of his television work from the 50s and 60s.

I also found Don't Give the Name a Bad Place, an album by Max Morath with Danny Barker, Clifford Jackson and Dick Hyman at piano and conductor. The subtitle is Types and Stereotypes in American Musical Theatre 1870-1900. They sing songs from the "early days" of American musicals and music hall. Sounds interesting.

OF COURSE I have TMT's "The Symphony Sessions!" I got it directly from Japan when it was first released (before it was released in the US) but paid more than $9 for it, though.

Yes, I MUST have every TMT recording!

I've never heard of "Don't Give the Name a Bad Place." It sounds interesting. I may have to check it out.

So sorry to read about Robert Altman. Thankfully, the Academy gave him special recognition before it was too late. Too bad they weren't smart enough to do it with other cinema icons.

You were right the second time, DR JRand. It was A WEDDING. I liked it very much.

Many of Altman's films I didn't cotton to the first time around, especially NASHVILLE (which I now think is a masterpiece) and BUFFALO BILL AND THE INDIANS (which I enjoy very much now). Loved THE PLAYER and GOSFORD PARK immediately.

The one film of his I haven't seen and want to see is SHORT CUTS.

I bought a video today titled FIVE MILES TO MIDNIGHT, a 1962 thriller starring Sophia Loren and Anthony Perkins, shot in Paris, directed by Anatole Litvak.

IMDB doesn't have much to say about this flick....has anyone on HHW seen it?

Favourite Altman films were "A Wedding" and "Gosford Park".

I found "Company" a disappoinment but it really wasn't an "Altman" film. Didn't he make it as a favor?

However, I've had plenty of fun video offerings to keep me busy today.

I started with HE'S A BULLY, CHARLIE BROWN. Many of the newer Peanuts specials have been VERY lacking during the last decades or two (often made from the comic strips, they lacked continuity and focus, really just became a series of blackouts for the characters), but this newest one was very entertaining. It had a story from beginning to end, and I laughed out loud several times. What's more, it actually let Charlie Brown have a victory for once in his life. A nice surprise!

Next up was OLD CHRISTINE, not a very good episode this week though I continue to find Christine's slacker brother appealing in an offbeat sort of way. He really got most of the laugh lines in this week's show.

CSI: MIAMI had a fascinating episode that ostensibly dealt with the murder of a woman at one of those singles/auctions for charity. In typical CSI fashion, however, it ended up being about something much more deadly serious than that with some real threat and tension established. A good one for the Miami branch of the franchise.

Next, I finished THE DA VINCI CODE. Enjoyed it just as much the second time around. I'd be curious to hear from those here that read the book and saw the movie if you felt cheated out of anything significent in the transition from book to screen.

Next up was a CSI: MIAMI episode from the fourth season boxed set. This was the one dealing with the theft of $10 million in gold bars by a crafty set of grifters masquerading as an upper crust family. Really liked the episode when I saw it last season and found it full of clever plotting and real surprises.

Finished the afternoon with an episode of CSI: NY from its second season set. This was the one dealingwith the murder of a marine during Fleet Week. I didn't quite finish the episode, and though I did watch it last season, I don't remember how it ended or who the murderer was. Will look forward to finishing it hopefully tonight.

DR Jennifer, I'm not sure if you read this, but the CW did renew VERONICA MARS for the rest of the season, but they reduced the order to only 20 episodes instead of the standard 22. The wrter/producer is now deciding how to squeeze in the other two mini-mysteries in the remaining episodes of the season.

(small spoiler about the next mini seasonal mystery after the rapist storyline)

(The current rapist mystery wraps up next week at which time a murder is going to occur that is going to be the next mini-mystery for Veronica to solve.)
