Oh wow! Love the music and the modern dance in that film is much more entertaining than I usually find such stuff. And the backstage dealing with costumes and budgets was so very realistic.

The dance during the rainstorm was thrilling!!

Joshie had some kind of adventure. I didn't see him at all yesterday; he didn't come in and request dinner as usual. I was very worried. This morning he showed up and was very skittish. I got him to come in and shut the doors so he can't get out. He finally calmed down and is napping on the sofa.

Callie decided that I should wake up every hour last night. I think the problem was the cat in the mirror. She gets concerned about that cat every once in awhile - not sure if she wants to meet her or make sure she stays away, but she meows about it, so I have to cover the lower part of the mirror, then she's fine. I'm hoping that's the only problem

It's funny, but I had almost mentioned PRÊT À PORTER the other day when we were discussing films that disgusted us. When Altman went wrong he could go waaaay wrong. And come to think of it, I had almost mentioned QUINTET as a fave when Paul Newman was the topic. That movie is fascinating, but almost completely inscrutable.

I have enjoyed many Altman films, including PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION, which is a good capper for his career. He may be the director whose movies I have seen the most of.

That is the only film in which Greg and I both decided to leave mid-film. Painful. And I'm not a big fan of recording actors ad-libbing lines on 8 tracks and letting them play simultaneously so you can't latch onto any of the lines, a la "Gosford Park". It worked on "Popeye" for me because nobody understood what he was saying in the cartoons, but I l know it bothered other people. I love "The Player". "Shortcuts", "M.A.S.H." and "Brewster McLeod".

It originally started out pre-MTV in Austin where 1 hour pods of music videos were assembled on 3/4" cassettes and mass duplicated and sent to various cable affiliates. When they moved their operation to Atlanta, they still sent out the tapes, but we also cablecast live on 4 Atlanta cable systems. Rick and I worked together for about a month auditioning, working on graphics and sets and putting it all together. It was quite a day when we finally went on the air with a live music broadcast featuring Dave Edmunds, the Georgia Satellites (old friends of mine who used to practice in my mom's basement) Tom Chapin and some other local acts.

Rick brought in a great technical director, an old friend of his from Canada, to direct the show. It was wonderful to watch him---he kept everyone calm and held the show together...it was most peoples' introduction to the world of live TV.

After it was all over, we climbed up to the roof for drinking and smoking and all-around decompression. That was one of the most intense days I've ever had, but fun!

John Ford's THE HURRICANE is on TCM tonight. Haven't seen it for many years.

Now that TCM has access to the Paramount/MCA/Universal titles, I keep hoping we will see some early Frances Farmer.....

Hey, George, silly question I know but do you have The Symphony Sessions - The Manhattan Transfer?

I just found it at Academy for $9 bucks. I'm a happy camper.

I also found Don't Give the Name a Bad Place, an album by Max Morath with Danny Barker, Clifford Jackson and Dick Hyman at piano and conductor. The subtitle is Types and Stereotypes in American Musical Theatre 1870-1900. They sing songs from the "early days" of American musicals and music hall. Sounds interesting.
