Still looking for an HDTV....not sure....but there is a nice 37" Polaroid LCD that is priced right.

It may be a few weeks before I can make the switch to Digital Cable....will an HDTV receive the analog signals with no problem?

'morning DR Jack..... Don't worry about watching conventional stuff on a new high def TV.  As everyone has said, it just won't look as good as DVDs or actual HD cable programming.

One thing to consider.....I decided on plasma after doing a lot of looking at a lot of different sets for several months.  For one thing, plasma sets have an actual glass screen which can be easily and safely cleaned many times.  An LCD screen is a thin plastic film, and just must be treated more carefully and delicately.

Also, go to a Best Buy or Circuit City, and look at side-by-side sets that are carrying the same source material at the same moment.  I particularly paid attention to scenes with some "jet-black" area to the picture, and I started to notice that I always was coming back to either Sony or Samsung plasma sets.  The "black" on those 2 brands was consistently deep, totally dark, and intense.  Looking over to other brands at the same moment, some of the "blacks" had a slightly washed or milky look to them.

So, there are my totally useless "2 cents" that you can toss out as you like.

Why am I staring at the hunky avatar of our dear DR Jose, and thinking about taking the bull by the horns ??!!

For a change, it's dear BK's fault !!  But it's also Jose's fault....it has to be!

Day 2 of the "Extreme Body Make-Over" plan.  Haven't felt like eating today!  My Jekyll and Hyde cast had to bear the brunt of the first day on the diet last night.  In a way that was good, they needed some bitch-slapping.  Retention doesn't seem to be in a lot of the cast's vocabulary.  We're singing through the show tonight, we'll see how it goes.  Myself, I'm having issues with the timing in "Alive' going from the 6/8 feel to the 3/4 (and back again).  Guess I should study the cast recording today.

Happy Birthday DR Rodzinski - hope your days is fun filled and exciting.

Off for breakfast, or something like that.  (I must buy some oatmeal)

DR Ginny, I am intrigued by DH Richard's interest in shape-note singing.  I have some recordings.  How did he come to be involved in that arena?

DR singdaw - He's always been a singer (church choirs, Miami University Men's Glee Club, etc.) and I can't remember how he got involved in the Cincinnati and Dayton Sacred Harp groups, but I do remember when:  about the time he retired from teaching almost 4 years ago.  Shortly after he joined the groups, they were asked to be part of the local appearances of the concert tour featuring the music from the movie Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou?.  In Columbus and Cincinnati, they sang with Alison Krauss and Ralph Stanley.

It's really not music designed for the listener, but for the participant.  Although I've gone to a couple of sings with him, I really don't get it and it makes my ear buzz - tinnitus, you know.

This is the greatest site in the world every day, but especially on one's birthday!!

Thanks for the wonderful birthday wishes everyone. And that's okay, Ron. To my family, I am Tommy.

Sorry I haven't been around since I got back. I have checked in a couple times but not caught up enough to post.

I had a nice time out in California, including pie with Mr. BK and Ms. Patti, then I returned to a snowy east coast.

My cousin from California arrived here just before me. He is interning with a photographer of some renown. So I've been showing the kid the ropes of NYC while trying to catch up on my daily deeds of derring do.

TOD - We watched a movie last night that made my jaw drop, but it was because I fell asleep:

I (heart) Huckabees

When I woke up and asked what had happened, my DH and DS said, "Nothing!"

What was that movie about?

DR Matthew - Just keep "Alive" all in "one" - Let the orchestra players take care of the subdivisions. ;)

*Are you doing the version with "Good and Evil" - or whatever that horrid alternate song is for Lucy and company.  There was still a snippet left of it as underscoring the last time I did the show.  In any case... I truly do not like that number - it's one of those 6/8 deals that sung in 2, sometimes 3... seemingly random.  -And god forbid, someone brings that in for an audition: "So, are you singing it in 2 or 3?"  ARRRGHHHH!!!

Living Small: Japan's Micro-Homes

Quote
The Mini
This stand-alone home, designed by Kurosaki, is about as small as they come. It fits on a 32 sq.m. (344 sq. ft.) piece of land in central Tokyo. A young, Japanese office worker lives there with her parents. This home cost a mere $170,000 to build.

"Bring on the Men" is back!!  "Good and Evil" - what was that about to begin with???  There is a little left in the underscoring in Act Two.  It's such a boring song.  I think I'm not alone in saying that the music on the two disk set (with Anthony Warlow) is the score that should have made it to Broadway.  Not this truncated thing we have now.

Nothing in 3/4 at the end of "Murder" so I guess the answer is yes.  "Murder" is one of my favorite numbers in the show.  Actually, I like a good deal of the music, if not all.  Well, I'm not a fan of "Someone Like You".

Yes, that would be easy if I was conducting.  But I am the rehearsal pianist and the keyboard/conductor for the show.  I'm eliminating the oter 2 keyboards.  In fact, I'm reducing the orchestra down to a string quartet, bass, drums/percussion, reed 1 (Flute, alto, clar) reed 2 (oboe, english horn) . french horn and keyboard (myself) and taking out all the pop rhytmns in the score.
