Somehow, I'm thinking that Cherry Ripe tastes better than Cherry Tripe.

I'm sure someone has tried it...maybe on Iron Chef?

I know! The Edison is really expensive at that time, too. Is that because of the festival or is that normal for this time of year?

 ???

Everything, hotel-wise, seems to be pricey and/or already booked.  I do think late September/early October is the beginning of one of the "high" seasons.

Wow---I knew they had promo beenies for Dr. T, but I've never heard of the bracelets. I wonder if it was something for the "girls", since they weren't likely to wear beenies?

Of course!

I need to get all the dates and then strategize. I'd love to take my mom, but I know Greg wants to see STARFIGHTER and BRAIN, but may not feel comfortable sharing a hotel room with mom. Hmmmmm...

As for Fall hotel rates in NYC...  Fall Fashion Week, and the beginning(!) of the Christmas Shopping Season (Yes, it starts that early now).  So...  Fall is also a major tourist season - especially since a lot of people tend NOT to come in August.  The next "slow season" will not be until January.

And now time to head to the theatre to get reacquainted with the Key 2 book - I've been on Key 3 the past two shows - and I have some weird tightness in my right hand that I need to work out.  I think I slept on it.  :-\

In any case...

Edi - It'll be confirmed tomorrow as to whether we can even make it work, but it would be six performances over the period Fri Sept. 28 through Sun. Oct. 7.

Thanks, all, for the good wishes.

DR FJL - I know you'll post firm dates once everything is confirmed, for those of us who wish to strategize to see all 3 shows!  :)

Let's not forget DR Noel's Such Good Friends in NYMF, too!

Yes, let's not  :D.

Such Good Friends has been awarded an Anna Sosenko Trust grant.  Very excited about that.

I'm thrilled The Last Starfighter is joining The Brain From Planet X and Such Good Friends in NYMF.  Returning to HainesHisWay after all these years was prompted by a desire to compare and contrast NYMF experiences, and the more the merrier.

And, you know, I've long loved Skip and valued his avuncular influence on me when I was a very young musical theatre writer.  He was good enough to attend my Area 51 - The Musical eight years ago, a sci-fi spoof with singing aliens and a three-and-a-half star general.

But nobody should think I'm put off when other musical writers follow in my footsteps.  Happens constantly.  This year alone:

John Kander, Rupert Holmes and the late Fred Ebb and Peter Stone premiered a musical in which a performer gets murdered while performing a show.  The detective who arrives is more interested in fixing the show than solving the crime.  Murder at the Savoy premiered 26 years ago, and has since had four productions in Britain, including last summer.

Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's latest was about that rarest of birds, the female pirate, just like my The Pirate Captains which began a long tour in 1994.

Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's new musical is about a troupe of Commedia Dell'Arte Players, as was the show Tony Kushner and I did in 1983, The Heavenly Theatre.

That's just the way it is with musicals: a fast-talking charlatan blows in to town and romances a stand-off-ish spinster.  Now, did you think of The Music Man, 110 in the Shade or something else?

As I told Bk, we've had to sit on this info pending its seeming like it's going to be possible, but Last Starfighter was offered a production slot at NYMF this year - we had been offered a production spot last year, but creative team logistics had been such that we ended up doing a NYMF reading (which co-presented with Seattle's Village Theatre, and which featured a wonderful performance by BK) rather than a NYMF production last year.  It seems that we have until tomorrow to give NYMF the final commitment as to whether we can make it all come together, but a very favorable factor for us is that Last Starfighter wouldn't be starting until Sept. 28th, when Brain from Planet X will be just a day or two before the end of its run.  So we wouldn't be competing with each other, plus the tones of the two shows are so different even though both involve sci-fi and aliens.

Fred, how exciting.  How awesome would that be to have both shows in the Festival (or Estival)?  Lots and lots of positive vibes to you and Skip.

Last night (it wasn't planned) I went to see the new Die Hard. I highly recommend it. It was exciting, literally on the edge of your seat action/adventure/thriller. Even if the plot and some of the stunts were over the top; who cares. I really got my money's worth. of all the films I have seen so far this summer season this was the best.

Better than Harry Potter, Transformers, Ratatouille and whatever else I've seen.

Good, we will be sure to go see it.

I am bringing Cherry Ripes to NY for you. The bakery even makes a Cherry Ripe slice (pastry). Tomovoz could probably tell us if it's any good. It looks to be the a cousin of what some Aussies call a "snot block".

I officially will cease nagging!   :D Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Snot block?  Now my mouth is really watering.

Actually, I was thinking of M Barnum at a nursing home!

My idea of heaven is not dragging a hot towel around! I did not, Nursie.  DR Jose thinks I need a vitamin B supplement.  It think it's genetic malnourishment from my Appalachian white trash roots.

DR Noel, good for the grant!

DR FJL, wow! Who don't I know at NYMF this year? Tell Skip I'm very happy for him and for you.  Perhaps BK can stay and reprise his role?

And I forgot to add that I just answered the phone and heard from a dear friend I've not seen in about four years, since he left the City.  He's now in Louisville, and it was great to catch up.  The next time I'm in Ohio, I think I will drive down to visit.

This morning we took Sherlock to play with his friend Maia, also a Bernese Mountain Dog.  The last time he saw Maia she was  bigger than he was, no longer.  She is now a dainty girl compared to our big boy.  He also met Emme, Maia's 5 month old sister.

I'm sorry I didn't take photos of the three of them playing, it was very cute.  I didn't take my camera figuring her son would take pictures, but he was still sleeping.
