We've just finished watching "Children Of Men" for the first time.

Given our current Government's treatment of refugess - it packs quite a punch!

Lots of interesting posts yesterday.....and a new FRED.

I was trying to remember where I had seen Bryan Batt of MAD MEN before, and there he was in that photo from JEFFREY.

I don't really want to know about a new Fred.  FJL is the only one - and he has a brain of his own.

POTO is an interesting show - I, too, really enjoyed it on a staging, sets, and costumes level, and I must say I really like some of its score.  But, Raoul is such a cardboard character, and Prince directed Christine (at least the one I saw) to be so melodramatic that I kept being taken out of being involved - that said, I though Crawford was terrific and made the most of his eighteen minutes on stage.

I once saw an amateur production of Fiddler that nothing could have fixed - except perhaps a nuclear bomb.  It was just excruciating.  Even the blackouts between scene changes.

Good morning, all! I will shortly be off to Toyland.  I was going to try for the matinee of Merrill's women-in-prison this afternoon, but I've run out of one of my medications and need to hit my pharmacy on the trek back from Toyland this afternoon. After two Fringe disasters, I'm not ready for a third, so bring on the drugs.

I have nothing else to report. So let's jump to the TOD:

CARRIE: I know there are folk who claim the score is great, but the production was so awesomely inept in every department that it's hard to tell. I only remember how god-awful it was.

THE NEWS: a disaster about a divorced New York reporter, his neglected daughter and a serial killer.  It might have worked on LAW & ORDER but it was a pathetic excuse for a punk rock musical.  At intermission, Dona D Vaughn, Mrs Ron Raines, turned to me and said "I wish he'd kill the audience and put us out of our misery."

MICE IN THE THEATRE at the Sheridan Square Actor's Theatre: if you're going to bill your play as a comedy, give them at least one intentional laugh.

JELLY'S LAST JAM: it may have run because of Greg Hines, but it was sure a mess as a book and a sensible piece of musical theatre.  At intermission Dona D Vaughn - with whom I see only a classy show - turned to me and said, "Do you have any idea what this is about?"

Strange.  The casting director had apparently heard from an offeree's agent that the actor needed until Monday at noon  to decide on our offer.  But we knew the actor was really interested in doing the show, and asked the actor (since he just happens to live in our building) if a job had come up or something.  But, also apparently, the actor had told his agent to accept (did this as soon as he got the call from his agent), and didn't need until Monday to decide.  Sure, there's protocol, but it can be damaging - had we not known the offeree, we would have thought he was posturing by saying "well, i need the weekend to decide" (that's what was on the status sheet sent to us by the casting director) and been unsure all weekend as to whether we had to continue looking for that role.

Protocologist - that's going to be my profession in my next life.  It seems like it should be quit lucrative.

Especially since so many people in show business need to have their heads removed from their asses.  You'd make a fortune.

Every time I go to DR td's MySpace page, I end up singing that song to myself for the rest of the day.

Which isn't a bad thing!     :)

I think the worst professional musical I ever saw was Roza.

Most of it is a haze, but I remember particularly a "Seance" production number in Act II after which I wondered "What on earth was Hal Prince thinking?"

I also remember that the set really worked against the show: there was this little rinky stairway stage right which connected to a little catwalk that ran around the entire back set wall.  And all the entrances and exits had to occur via this catwalk.  It was annoying as hell and very distracting.

The costumes and sets for the original Broadway production of Merrily were similarly ugly and annoying.

Fondest Greetings to you all!  (A line from POTO)

I hope that all is going well for you.  Just wanted to pop in and let you know that I'm still kicking.  Some days better then others but I'm here.

I had my 2nd sleep study done with the machine and it was wonderful.  No problems at all.

I've been waiting to get my own machine but have had to wait for insurance glitches.  I got a call that said they would deliver it on Friday (yesterday).  Then I got a call back saying they had some kind of problem and it wouldn't be until Monday.  Sigh.

I think the lack of good sleep is 99% of all of my problems.

I even almost messed up big time because my boss gave me some important paperwork to make copies of and take down to HR.  Well, I was so tired, I didn't get around to making the copies and I put the paperwork someplace "safe" so it wouldn't be laying around on my desk (this was last Friday BTW).  I totally forgot about it until yesterday.   :-[ :-\  I felt so bad about it.

I wish I could be in NY with you all right now.  I could use some vacation.  My time is slowly building up.  I have 3 days of vacation on the books--not that I could afford to go even if I had the time.  Another life change I have to get used to.  I don't quite have the spending money that I used to.

I will look forward to hearing all about your adventures and I want lots and lots of pictures!

Next weekend I'm painting the living room.  I will be taking the computer apart Friday night and storing it in the spare room until I'm done.

I bought a new computer desk that I will have to assemble (Joy) before I will be back on line.

I hope to have everything done by Monday afternoon.
