I rarely watch network stuff anymore. A lot of it is horrible.

Topic of the Day...Shows that I like (nothing unique, though):

Battlestar Galactica (it's gritty, good scripts and acting, very good special effects)
Boston Legal (just mostly goofy)
Desperate Housewives (mindless entertainment)
Doctor Who (it's just fun)
Ghost Whisperer (I got sucked into this...I don't know why)
Grey's Anatomy (it's set in Seattle)
Heroes (very good comic book TV show...and eye candy )
How I Met Your Mother (for me, three words:  Neil Patrick Harris)
Kyle XY (another one that I just got sucked into)
Lost (I love the backstories and how they all fit together)
Medium (I like the family and especially the children)
Psych (funny buddy comedy)
Torchwood (from England)
Ugly Betty (just good old-fashioned fun)

Shows that I don't like...I don't watch.

I also like both Torchwood and Doctor Who... Not a fan of medium

I finished RETURN TO HALLOWEENTOWN. Not as amusing as any ordinary episode of SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH, but it was colorful and light and I'm sure appealed to preteen girls.

I have some old brit coms on tape that i rather like also. One is Darling Buds of May that has a very young Catherine Zeta Jones starring.

I am hoping that the rest of All Creatures will be released in Region 2.

I also watched the 6-minute "Making of" featurette on the HALLOWEENTOWN DVD. Everyone mentioned missing Debbie Reynolds on this one. She only makes two brief appearances and probably filmed them in one day.

Next, I watched CHARLIE CHAN AT MONTE CARLO. I had never seen it before. This was Warner Oland's last completed Chan film, and he doesn't seem all together. His line readings and reactions are very slow, and it's a bit less entertaining than some of his earlier efforts.

The remastered DVD image looks pretty good for a 1938 film though there is spotting and dirt.

There was a nice tribute to Oland's career and a few details about his last days on the MONTE CARLO special feature section. Very worthwhile little featurette.

On the flip side of the MONTE CARLO DVD is the 1929 movie BEHIND THE SCREEN which featured the first film appearance by the Charlie Chan character. I'll watch this tomorrow. I've never seen it before.

I liked THE CLOSER though I pegged the killer early on this week. Often I go totally in another direction, but not this week.

I loved how Brenda used the Homeland Security stuff against them as much as she could. That had me rolling with laughter.

I was going to watch the re-broadcast of THE CLOSER tonight, but my roommate is in the living room watching one of my very own videos.

Picture this: You’re the artistic director of a regional theatre, one with a pretty good reputation for doing new musicals.  Hundreds of scripts and demos cross your desk every year.  It’s a burden to read them all, because, new musicals being what they are, so many of them are awful.  So, with nobody looking over your shoulder, you cheat a little: You decide not to read the musicals that haven’t been done in New York.  You feel you can do that because you’ve great faith that if a show can make it there, it can make it anywhere.  Whoa, there’s still too many musicals on your pile.  Look around again.  Nobody’s looking over your shoulder, so you decide to read ONLY those musicals produced in New York that have won awards.  Doesn’t matter if the award was given by a panel of experts or just friends and relatives, if it’s won one, you’re going to read it.  If it hasn’t, doesn’t matter if it’s West Side Story, it’s not going to get read.

Still think awards are meaningless?

Yes, I still think meaningless awards are meaningless - if that's the way regional theaters work, then it's no wonder so much crap gets done.  And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

Sherlock is a lot like Dixie Bell in the growths on the faces department.
Right now, even though she's lying down, she has a new toy monkey, which sticks out its tongue when its being squeezed, which she will not part with.
 
I watched a bit of a Bollywood extravaganza, one based on SENSE & SENSIBILITY, then the CMT PICK DVD OF JOE NICHOLS which came out last week.  Lots of acoustic performances, including one of Iris DeMint's "No Time to Cry" which gets me every time.
