Thank you to wonderful DRs Ginny, Matt, elmore, Jose, JRand and Woody for the birthday wishes.  What a treat to wake up this morning and find those here.  You are all wonderful and have made me feel very welcome here and a part of the family.  Thank you so much.

I hope the king/chef closes his shirt when he cooks.
It takes a brave chef to fry bacon in that shirt!

What's this fuss about violins on television?

(an Emily Litella reverence)

I miss Gilda Radner!  I loved her Emily Litella editorials.
Oh, you meant reference, not reverence.
That's very different.
Never Mind!

The LAST thing Margo Channing would have cared about would have been animal rights.
Matt...

She's wearing a FUR COAT!

I was being SARCASTIC!

(See article for full list)

der BrucerAnd each and every one of those films that are now lost is a film DR MBarnum would have loved!

 :'(

Wow, that is what I was just thinking! LOL!

Actually, my thought was if they want to save films why don't they go after those that are more in danger of becoming lost, rather then those that are so easily found?

I mean really, there are probably a couple of rare June Kenney movies sitting in someones basement, just rotting away.

'Bullitt,' '12 Angry Men' among honored films(See article for full list)
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is one of my favorites.

Work schedule today:  from 4pm to 10pm, self-scan monitor.

Work schedule tomorrow: from 9:15am to 3:15pm, regular register.

Which gives me less than twelve hours to get home, cook dindin for myself and derHighness, get to sleep, get up, and get back to work.

Union regulations state that the store only has to give me eight hours between shifts.  (Fortunately, Dixie doesn't do that to people... very often.)

I can only imagine what a b***h this is like for workers who live an hour away from their jobsite.

Aren't unions wonderful?

I thought the Bette Davis comment was a "Peta! Peta! Peta!" reference.

(Did Bette Davis ever actually say "Peter, Peter, Peter?" Is it a legend the way cary grant apparently never actually siad "Judy, Judy, Judy.")

Unfortunately, Barnum, a lot of the films that are selected get on the list because they are well known, more than for their need of preservation.  The idea is to encourage the voluntary preservation of the lesser-known titles, I suppose, but if all we hear about is what is known...

And if all the younger crowd knows about is what has been released in the last five years...

We're doomed, I tell ya, doomed!

Aren't unions wonderful?

Without unions, we wouldn't have this lovely little ditty:

International Ladies Garment Workers Union anthem
Words by Paula Green
Music by Malcolm Dodds

Look for the union label
When you are buying a coat, dress or blouse.
Remember somewhere our union's sewing
our wages going to feed the kids and run the house,
We work hard but who's complaining.
Thanks to the I.L.G. we're paying our way.
So, always look for the union label,
it says we're able
to make it in the U.S.A.

Without unions, we wouldn't have the "Come on, union, get hot" part of "Steam Heat" either.

...And if all the younger crowd knows about is what has been released in the last five years...
...
For example, one time at the store Maureen McGovern's voice was crackling over the muzak "There's got to be a morning after," and I commented to Rachel, another checker, that it was from The Poseidon Adventure, and she gave me a strange look.  "I don't think so," she replied.  It turned out that she didn't even know that Poseidon was a remake.

"Well, how can you expect me to know about all that old stuff?" she snorted.  (Rachel is about 20 years old, if that.)

(She's also a tad homophobic.   :P)

Received a "winning" notification from Dr. (Mrs.) Mercy Martins, with her picture attached!  Picture is below, with its original title.  Maybe Kelli is her nickname.  :)

I'm pretty sure that's next on Scorcese's list.

Yeah, right.

We work hard, but who's complaining.

THE UNION BOSSES ARE COMPLAINING!  "GET BACK TO WORK AND STOP SINGING, YA DANGED MISERABLE SEAMSTRESSES!  THE SIX FIGURE SALARIES WE GET THAT YOU PAY FOR OUT OF YOUR UNION DUES DON'T GROW ON TREES, YA KNOW!"

(Yes, I pay dues to a union, but they don't do much for me at the store, other than create friction between regional management and local management.  Bleh.)

Without unions, we wouldn't have the "Come on, union, get hot" part of "Steam Heat" either.
We wouldn't have had the entire plot of Pajama Game, for that matter.  So there would have been no reason for Adler and Ross to write "Hey, There," "Hernando's Hideaway," or "I'm Not At All In Love."

I wonder what they would have written had the show been about a supermarket, instead.

"Racing With the Shopping Cart?"

"Once-A-Year-Sale?"

"I'll Never Be Rainchecked Again?"
