Oh, I do have something else I want everyone to know.  As you know, my computer crashed and so I changed to an Apple.  Well, that also means that I lost my address book.   I don't honestly know if I have everyones home address to send you a Holiday card since it was my habit to put everyones return address straight into the stupid computer as soon as I got them so I wouldn't lose them.

So I just want everyone to know that if you don't get a card from me, it's not that I didn't want to send you one, it's just that I don't have your address.

I'm recollecting email addresses when someone sends me an email because I don't have those either.  Sigh.  :(

Computers are wonderful for collections of information.  Until their not.  Then you lose everything in one big crashed hard drive.  Like my boss says "Newer doesn't always mean better".

After this I shall make an old fashion address book.  The kind you WRITE in.

Guess I'd better go check on Mr. Turkey.  I've decided to try eat early and then maybe go over to Thelma's later on so if I don't make it back, I hope everyone has a great day!

TOD

I think it was when I went to NYC and saw The Macy Parade and the highlight being hearing our own Bruce Kimmel and Michelle Nicastro singing Be A Santa while women pushing shopping carts down the street in time to the song

...the Philadelphia IKEA parade (yes, I did say IKEA!)

In my day it was Gimbals' Thanksgiving Parade - the day Santa Claus came to town!

Jane Curtin and Martin Mull were introduced as the parents of the Allison Morgan character - Gary's ex....  I am not sure if I am annoyed at the actress or the character she plays.

I guess I could be thankful for residuals.   ;D

Maybe I'm in the monority but I think the film of WHITE CHRISTMAS has a dreadful screenplay and one number, "Choreography," that I find appalling.  When I was a kid, I loved the film, which I saw in its first release, but 50 years later, which is when I caught it again, I think it really stinks. I like the cast, especially Rosemary Clooney - I know her son Rafael - who was always very sweet and funny when I'd run into her, and some of the songs but the film leaves no great impression with me.  I look forward to seeing the stage version for several reasons - I know the orchestrator Larry Blank, vocal arranger Bruce Pomahac, choreographer Randy Skinner, book writer David Ives, and Steve Bogardus - and I think it will be silly holiday fun.

It was a LOT of fun when I saw it here a couple of years back.  The "I Love A Piano" number is FABulous!

Well, I have reserved the liver from the Turkey to use in an omelet.

I have the remaining innards (neck, craw, heart) simmering in large pot with celery, onion, and carrot for stock.

I have draped bacon over the bird to make it self-basting.

The cranberry sauce has been mellowing in the refigerator since yesterday.

The sprouts are ready as is the chestnut butter.

I pop the bird in the oven at 5 and my work is done!

The only thing missing as a good homemade mince-apple pie.

In about five minutes I shall be on my way to FJL and Skip's Thanksgiving Do.  It takes about a half hour to walk to Broadway from here, so I'm assuming a nice thirty-five minute walk to their place.

Isn't "I Love A Piano" from Easter Parade??

Indeed it is; but it's easy to mix up "Christmas" and "Easter", they have the same leading man.

Ann - just you wait for this Christmas; Toby should be able to focus at a distance and respond to basic colors - A decorated Christmas Tree is pure joy to a three month old!

WHITE CHRISTMAS (broadway version) was one of the numbers performed on NBC for the MACY's THANKSGIVING DAY parade.

TCM is showing THREE FOR THE SHOW in about half an hour.

A strange movie about life in the thea-tuh starring Betty Grable - and as her suitors (one an ex-husband) are Gower Champion and Jack Lemmon.

From Columbia Pictures in 1955.

I bought the laserdisc in a cutout bin a long time ago and have probably watched it twice in my life. Not a very good movie.

The movie of, "White Christmas' (excuse me, "Irving Berlin's "White Christmas") was pretty lame compared to "Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn."  Yes, the movie of "White Christmas" has its moments, but you have to wade through an awful lot of mediocrity.  Rosemary Clooney is a delight as is Mary Wickes and Dean Jagger.  George Chakiris is good, too.  But one watches it for the occasional moments of joy.

I believe "I Love a Piano" was one of the Irving Berlin numbers interpolated into the stage version of WHITE CHRISTMAS.
