I agree with DR S. Woody about APOLLO 13. I lived through the real thing, and the film captured brilliantly that breathless sense of seeming doom with just a glimmer of hope. For my money, that's his best film.

I really don't know what I'll be watching today. I'll have to look at the stacks of things I have waiting for fun viewing and pick something. I also have two movies on the DVR (P.S. I LOVE YOU and DISTURBIA) that I'd like to watch and clear off though there seems to be plenty of time this week to watch them since there is very little new being broadcast during Christmas week.

Geez....it's Sunday, December 21, 2009.

Where has this year gone?

Happy LONGEST DAY OF THE YEAR, everyone!

Ron went a lot further south than I had thought.

I am getting one new Blu-ray to review this week, one I elected to do even though I think it's going to be awful juding from the reviews I read when it opened - DISASTER MOVIE. But, not every film can have the depth of a Criterion release, so I'm OK with watching it and making up my own mind.

MICHAEL S:  I mentioned the difficulty I had with LOST in my review.  That was on my old Samsung, which I just sold, I haven't tried them on my new Sony.  What worked for me was letting it get through the loading bars and then pressing either Top Menu or Pop-up Menu, I can't remember which, and then it finally loaded.

As I mentioned yesterday, this Sony seems to have a strange anomaly with newer BDs (e.g., HANCOCK).  It goes through the loading protocol twice for some reason.

PDX is completely snowbound.  Church is cancelled.  Buses are cancelled.  In fact pretty much everything is cancelled.  I'll try to take some pics.  It's a winter wonderland--over a foot of snow here (which is a ton for PDX), capped by a nice frosty topping of ice (yuck).

It's been really windy, too, hence no snow on the railings anymore.

I have some computer stuff to fiddle with and then I'll head down to get laundry ready for washing. I must wrap another load of Christmas presents for a Christmas dinner I'm attending tomorrow night. And, of course, I must fix something to eat for lunch.

DR Michael S, I do hope you took my advice and joined AVSforum.com and went to their forum section on the Sony 300. I'm sure there are hundreds of users in that forum who can offer advice. Though I have a Sony PS3, it's very different from a standalone player, and I have no practical advice to offer. So sorry I can't be of more help.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And, actually, I've been up since 8:00.  I puttered around about around the apartment, then headed down to Fairway to do some grocery shopping.  And from the looks of the groceries that are currently laid out on the dining room table, I'm guessing I'm going to be doing some baking today.  :)

*I just finished washing/rinsing out the bowls, utensils and measuring cups and spoons too.  Oh, and wiping down the counters.  Thus my "break" right now to read and post.

DR Ron Pulliam - When you drive through Greenville, SC, be sure to "wave" at the campus of Furman for me.  Furman used to host some of the regional collegiate classical music competitions, and I always loved walking around the lake there before and after playing/competing.

*And when you drive by Bob Jones, just throw something.  ;)

A correction from last night...

Colin Firth, not Peter Firth, plays Harry "Headbanger" in "Mamma Mia!".

Well, we have about 6 inches of snow outside our house.  Unheard of.  I'll post some pictures later, once I get some boots on and go take some.  We are staying inside today unless absolutely necessary to leave.

Good Morning!

The snow has stopped (for now) and the main roads have been cleared, but I won't be able to get my car out until, at least, tomorrow (sometime).  Thanks for the photo of Titlow Beach, derBrucer.  My friend, Stan, when he is home, lives right up the hill from Titlow.  I am glad I drove over and picked up the mail yesterday afternoon, instead of trying to get there today.

The television news is saying that we got four inches of snow in Tacoma, but I think it is closer to six to eight inches.  Unfortunately, I will have no photos to prove it.  When they came and fixed the thermostat the other day, they needed to replace the batteries, and the only fresh ones I had were in my camera.   :(

Free for all -

which film do you think most accurately captured an historical event? (In as much was known at the time of filming).  ;D

Hmm, I was going to say JFK, but I probably shouldn't open that can of worms.  Instead, I will say APOLLO 13.
