TOD:
I mentioned yesterday that our local revival theater was The Visulite. Now for the most notable films I saw there.
The local TV stations would never shell out the big bucks to rent MGM movie packages, so I grew up never having seen EASTER PARADE, THE PIRATE, SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, ON THE TOWN, MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS or any of those classics. So, whenever there was an MGM double feature, I was there. They'd usually do double features with the same star: Fred Astaire in ROYAL WEDDING and THE BAND WAGON or Gene Kelly in AN AMERICAN IN PARIS and LES GIRLS. So, before I saw them on VHS, I saw many MGM musicals at the Visulite.
I also saw all of the Marx Brothers' MGM movies there in usually triple features but always coupled with A NIGHT AT THE OPERA as the major drawing card. (So I saw it two or three times for only one time for AT THE CIRCUS or GO WEST.) They never got THE BIG STORE, so I only saw it a few years ago for the first time. Amazing!
