Listening to Diana Krall's just about to be released new CD, Quiet Nights. Beautiful charts by Claus Ogerman and production by Tommy LiPuma, but this woman puts me to sleep. She just thinks that this breathy thing is so sexy and it's so boring after one song - she flatlines every song - no variety, no nuance, no color, just breath and trying to do what far lesser singers did so effortlessly - singers like Astrud Gilberto and her ilk. Her phrasing is so weird - just not a fan. How these people cross over and sell albums is really a mystery to me and always has been. It's a real 60s album without any of the soul - strictly paint by numbers instead of an original painting.
Totally agree too!
If I want "breathy", Peggy Lee did it better, and she knew about phrasing!
Miss Krall should stick to piano playing!
Not only she bores me but her voice irritates me!

But then, I'm an old bag!
