Can anyone recommend a good recording of "The Tender Land"?

Philip Brunelle; it's as good a recording of a boring opera as you'll ever get. And I like Copland's music.

Thanks, Elmore, I knew I could count on you.  Am I better off finding some selections instead of investing in the whole opera, if it's boring, that is....

DR George:  I believe the accurate spelling for "dube" would be "doob", or short for "doobie".  And then, there's the "Doobie Brothers" to remember if you have second doubts.  Or, just remember "Scoobie Doobie Doo"!

:)

;)

I stand corrected...by someone who obviously knows. ::)

;D

Alternately, you can use "dooby".    ;D

TOD - I've never even smoked a regular cigarette, although my lungs took in plenty of second-hand smoke when I was growing up (both parents smoked - my mother quit when I was in college, but my dad never did).  When I was doing community theater, I was always afraid that I'd get a part that required smoking and someone would have to teach me.

I had to grow up with it, also.  And doing community theater, I've thought about what would I do if I were cast in a role that required smoking.  So far, I haven't.  I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. :)

I have had the same thoughts about smoking for a role on stage. I almost had to do it once in THE LAST MEETING OF THE KNIGHTS OF THE WHITE MAGNOLIA. The script did say for my character to pull out a cig and light up only to make a mess of it. The director changed the business to my just pulling out a pack of smokes and waving them around to show everyone what a "man" I was. Worked just as well and took less time.

The sun has finally come out and I see some blue sky now. Looks very pleasant out, unlike earlier today.

I watched last night's CASTLE while I ate lunch today. OK episode. Not much mystery to it, but it was OK. I am GLAD that ex-wife is not going to become a regular. Way too hyper and irritating for me. That poor daughter! To have two juvenile delinquents as parents!

Then I watched the first three episode of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE. Lynda Day George wasn't given a huge amount to do in the first three episodes, but I'm sure her spotlight shows are coming. I had forgotten that Leonard Nimoy had left the show by this time so that there are only four regulars now: Peter Graves, Greg Morris, Peter Lupus, and Lynda. Occasionally Sam Elliott jobs in for a caper, but he's not on every show.

The season premiere had the GORGEOUS Peter Brown as the primary guest star. Tom Bosley and Harold Stone were also in the guest cast.

The second show really stretched credulity with William Shatner in terrible old age makeup being given a makeover to confuse him into thinking he had returned to the days of his youth so he'd reveal where he had hid a body that would help convinct him for murder.

The third didn't have any famous guest stars in leading roles, but the caper was the best of the three I watched this afternoon requiring split second timing and some really crafty hoodwinks on the crooks. I really enjoyed this episode.

I ended my afternoon watching both yesterday's and today's episodes of AS THE WORLD TURNS. Yesterday, the boys were still enduring Zack and Zoe (Zach has a gorgeous body, but the pair of them are very grating to me. I know others find them a fun alternative to the stoic Noah and frenzied Luke, but I don't.

Today's episode didn't have anything of interest, but the boys are back in tomorrow's show.

N ot to offend anyone's deeply held religious convictions, but I've always thought that artistic representations of The Flying Spaghetti Monster looked suspiciously like the Chthulu Monster, whose cameo appearance has become de rigeur in horror movies of late.

Well, I finished my afternoon surf a bit earlier than planned, so I'll head back down to maybe be able to squeeze in an extra MISSION IMPOSSIBLE episode other than the three more I was planning to get done today.

DR Matthew, clearly. some folk like it or it wouldn't get recordings. I think it's a poor piece but you may find it wonderful.

I find them the epitome of bad "indicating" soap opera acting. They're so blatantly perverse, you wonder why those two conservative gay boys don't see they're insane and trouble.

And what happened to all those mild-mannered gay kids on the show during the election fraud?

So, I have had marijuana only two or three times.  It certainly didn't make me want to progress onto harder drugs.

I was quite energetic in the disco days, so I didn't try speed or downers to turn those disco nights into disco daze.

Just for the record, alcohol is a depressant, not a stimulant.

And there is a link between alcohol abuse and depression.

I quickly learned in my early 20's to stay away from all alcohol if I was depressed.

My throat is still not great, but quite a bit better than yesterday. I tossed and turned most of the night. But at least i sort of slept. I found that ricolla's and peppermint candies seem to really make my throat feel good. I also had hot chocolate.

It still hurts when i swallow. But if i try not to swallow then i feel much better. And although swallowing hurts, it isn't excruciating like yesterday.

My sister had asked me if i'd watch my niece because tonight is the only night before the baby is born that they can tour the hospital. But i don't want to go over there. So i asked my mom if she would go in my place.

I usually also stay with my niece on wednesday night. But unless i feel near perfect i don't think i will go. I don't want to get her or my sister sick.

Good idea to stay away from them until you are completely well, which I hope is soon.
