Question for Jose,

a middle aged married couple who work with Woody are planning trip to NYC. The mister thinks it would be fun to go to a cabaret.

Any thoughts/recommendations?

der Brucer

I'm not Jose, but, Jason Graae is playing The Metropolitan Room. . .

Great thought - thanx

I agree with Der Brucer,

Mindless entertainment on a dreary Friday Night, sounds perfect.

The cabaret scene here in NYC is pretty good right now.  Far from what it used to be, but there are some decent options most nights of the week now.  It all depends just how much of a cover charge and food and/or drink minimum that willing to pay.

The Metropolitan Room is my favorite spot right now. Good acts, reasonable cover charges, and the two-drink minimum can be met with soft drinks or even bottled water. *And they serve cakes and pies from The Little Pie Company.

On the higher end of the scale, there's Feinstein's, and if they feeling like putting down a down-payment on a small apartment, there's always the Café Carlyle.

For everything else in between, there's:
Don't Tell Mama
The Triad
The Triad
The Algonquin
Birdland
Etc., etc., etc...

I knew you'd have a compendium - thanks a lot.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.....  that's what I woke up to on my radio alarm today. I cracked up laughing.  Turns out the radio station I used to listen to has either been sold or something, but they are switching format and are all Christmas all the time - I'm waiting to see if it's a publicity stunt or if they really will stay Christmas music.  I laughed everytime I heard it today

The stores are already filled with Christmas stuff and the smells.  It's too early for the holiday smells.  What happened to Halloween and Thanksgiving and the rest.

You're welcome, DR DERBRUCER.

*And if they happen to want a "less intimate" venue - and will be here during mid-October, the Broadway Cabaret Festival is coming up at Town Hall next month.

Sunday (after listening to the Beatles cd's all weekend) I went to the Psychic Eye Bookshop in Sherman Oaks (to buy something nostalgic from the 70's, cotton drape panels from India) the apartment has a very mellow feel now.

Scroll down on their website to: Ellen visits the Psychic Eye (very funny from a few years ago, I love her show, she is funny)  Psychic Eye Book Shops-Sherman Oaks

ASK BK

RE: Recording Finnian's Rainbow

I think you have an excellent track record from Bay Cities, Varese and the other label. I would think that could be put into consideration. Besides Larry you have worked with the creme de la creme of the musical and cabaret world. I'm that should count for something.

Well, I don't see BK as a low bidder - you get what you pay for, but an on-the-cheap FR cast album would probably sell near as well as a BK as-it-good-as-it-can-get version.

I agree - we should have the smells of rotting flesh, then roasting turkey before we get fresh cut evergreen and plum puddings.

Catching up from the last few days #1

Ron Pulliam ask what Ish Kabibble was.

It is more of a who not a what.

Ish Kabibble was the stage name of an actor.  Who I am not sure of

I did not ask who or what Ish Kabibble is or was.

I was doing a play on "What is it, fish?" by saying "What is it, Ish Kabibble".

I just enjoy writing the name Ish Kabibble.

Ish Kabibble Ish Kabbible Ish Kabibble.

Here's a parody dealing with, as someone mentioned the other day on another chat board: "with what I've read here about Stamos, it might be difficult to buy a gaggle of teenage girls flipping for Conrad Birdie when this Albert is also standing right there."

Hope you like it if you have time to watch (it's just under two minutes).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bT835-V3c4g

Bye bye Conrad
That Albert’s such a dream
Bye bye Conrad
Albert makes us scream

                                    (We loved you Conrad)

No more buying
Those fan club memberships
No more sighing
We want Albert’s lips

John lumbers like a klutz
The man should take ballet
His singing makes us nuts
What note was that – a J?
                (Bye bye Birdie)
Still bye bye Conrad
Call off that one last kiss
Bye bye Conrad
Albert’s who we’ll miss

His singing’s too low-key
His dancing has no line
Still Albert is for me
He’d fill my house just fine

Don’t twitch, Conrad
We’re fans but who’da thunk
We’d ditch Conrad
For an ancient hunk
               (We loved you Conrad)
Albert’s such a hunk
               (We loved you Conrad)
Don’t get in a funk
               (We loved you Conrad)
Albert’s such a hunk.
