When I got in from lunch I watched HUNGER. It's a harrowing examination of the 1981 IRA-Parliament wars involving IRA prisoners in Belfast who were head-butting with prison officials. No sides are chosen by the director: both sides are shown objectively. But it's visceral to say the least.

The last hour becomes focused on IRA martyr Bobby Sands and his 66-day hunger strike to protest British treatment of the Northern Irish.

This is not a feel good movie, but it's effective, that's for sure.

I didn't quite get through all of the bonus features, but I got through almost all of them. There's an excellent 1981 BBC news program that gives a good accounting of the troubles of the time for those who were ignorant of the specific situation being addressed in the film (I wish I had seen this before I started watching the movie. I would have been better prepared for what was to come.)

And the director and star are interviewed along with a "maing of" documentary featuring more actors, the co-writer, and the producer.

As for tonight, I think after I finish the rest of the bonuses on HUNGER, I'll try THE LIST OF ADRIAN MESSENGER. Either that or THE BOURNE SUPREMACY on Blu-ray. Whichever is shorter.

Well, I see the Super Bowl broke all standing records in terms of total audience for any entertainment broadcast in the history of television. The final episode of MASH now ranks second to it.

I must hop off-line now and get some writing done. Then, I'll head back down to finish HUNGER's bonuses and then find something else to watch.

Didn't MR BK say that there would be a Kritzerland release this week?  What is it all about?

I bought the DVD 2-Disc Version of THE MUMMY RETURNS.....I have THE MUMMY and THE MUMMY TOMB OF THE EMPEROR.....now I have all three....it was $5 at WalMart.....so after Prime Time, as the snow begins, I may have a MUMMY Marathon.  You really can't have too much Brendan Fraser, I always say.

LOL...DR JANE....I clicked on the wrong file the first time.....now all is well....and Mr James Byron Dean as one of the Fairmont Quakers graces my post.

I also sent for a copy of SCARY MONSTERS magazine which contains an interview with Miss June Kenney - the elusive Miss Kenney, photographs from the collection of DR MBARNUM.

I have been listening to FINIAN'S RAINBOW and it is most glorious to hear those lovely songs sung - not screeched or styling - and the photos are most lovely.....I want the tie Mr Jackson wore with his white suit.

My friends on the board of the grantwriters group sent me some lovely flowers  today - it really looks like 2 different arrangements, depending on the angle:

such nice friends you have.  the flowers are beautiful, from both views. :)

After I told Keith what I weighed this morning he bought me a piece of chocolate cake while I was at therapy.  After snacking on an apple & a slice of cheese I'm having some of the cake.  I hope I don't ruin my appetite for dinner, I eat early.

Cool but also scary department:  Gabe is doing a paper on "Grandpa Mike," AKA my Dad, who died before Gabe was born.  There's a lot of printed information on my Dad available due to his high rank in the Army and long military career.  Anyhoo, Gabe emailed me a link today to a comment praising my father's comaraderie (sp?) with his men, obviously made by an enlisted man.   This guy said my dad removed his rank insignias so he could go to the NCO club with his guys and have beers, which sounds just like my Dad.  But I clicked on the guy's name on this post and it took me to his blog, which is a really, really scary ultra-right wing thing where he's posting about how he hopes Obama is taken hostage, etc.  Obviously he does not share my father's temperament, LOL.

He has 40 hours from the school -- he has done about 14. I am sure the court will give him more.

JMK, I guess you won't be contacting this guy.

Actually, I made the mistake of using the "contact" link on the first site where he commented before I went to his site.  But I contacted him, not Gabe, so hopefully it will be OK.  Plus the comment and his own site were from almost two years ago so maybe his head has exploded by now.  :)
