I suggest you buy a television and bring it home to her.

Yes, buy a television that looks exactly like the old one and replace it without telling her and then say you've fixed it.  You'll be a hero!

Or, even better, one that's just SLIGHTLY different from the broken one, which you then continue to insist is the original one, whilst simultaneously asking her if she's feeling OK.  ;)

RLP, I always encourage other opinions - why would you think otherwise?  We all don't have to agree.  I don't hate Lost this season, I just think it's going the way of Alias, with a lot of flailing around.   There are VERY important characters from past seasons who haven't even been referred to, even though, according to previous seasons, they were the reasons everything was happening.  Sorry, but the producers can't spend episode after episode with  those characters and then not even refer to them.

T.O.D.

Since it is Ask BK Day.  Have you considered moving your daily notes back from midnight on the West Coast, to midnight on the East Coast?  Some nights you seem so worn out, that it seems like it is a struggle for you to stay awake until midnight.  You could still post late whenever you have a rehearsal or are out to dinner or to the theater; but the rest of the time you could post early, and give the East Coast people more time to post about the topic of the day when they aren't half asleep.

Just askin'.

The easiest way I've found to get a new television (several, actually) is to simply purchase a new house.  ;)

Well, you just tried this stunt to get a new dryer - but your timing was off :D

No, NBC is mixing things up over a four-hour block each night.  Prime-time means squat.   Look...here's a short program by a Czech skater...and we will be back after we get the complete qualifying run of the snowboarding competition.  But next, here's a profile on polar bears.  And coming up, can Lindsey Vonn carry the universe on her shoulders and live up to the hype we, the media, have placed on her?

The Olympics "used to be" an event.  Now it's a farce during which athletes become international stars...for a time.

That is sort of what CTV (the main canadian channel) is doing. They show a bit and a bit of that. I don't like it either. So unless they show something in its entirety i switch to one of the sister stations.

What are NBC's sister stations showing?

Btw, CTV had an interview with Lindsey Vonn the other day. She seems very sweet. But i could not believe how many times she said "umm" in her interview.

GUYS AND DOLLS may not have been perfect, but it's certainly entertaining.  I wish they hadn't cut one of my favorite songs from the original, "More I Cannot Wish You".

Rather than remake GUYS AND DOLLS, how about Hollywood filming some musicals that have never made it to the screen, like LES MISERABLES or RAGTIME?

That's a very good idea...especially for these two shows!

(as long as they don't screw them up! ;))

DR Jane there were 2 chinese pairs as DR Cilla said. So you have to watch all the way through to see who was 2nd!

Actually, there were three Chinese pairs.  The Gold Medalists -- Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo, the Silver Medalists -- Pang Qing and Tong Jian and the fifth-place finishers (who won Silver in Torino in 2006) -- Zhao Dan and Zhao Hao.

My post last night, eluding to the fact I figured out I didn't know who one, must have been missed.

After watching the other Chinese pairs skate I realize I don't know which talented pair Jennifer referred to.  I hope to finish watching tonight for the answer.

And now that I have watched all the way through, I agree with the order of 1st & 2nd.  The #2 pair did make small mistakes in the free skate, as pointed out by our commentators.   I'm not sure if the #1 pair made as many-probably close.  I felt the grace & beauty of pair #1 countered the charisma of pair #2 in the free skate, so to me having been in 1st place after the short program they were the winners.  Oh, I felt they deserved to be in 1st place going into the free skate.

Both pairs truly are gifted skaters.

From Ginny:
Quote
DR Jane - that Canadian pair used to be a couple and they were skating about their failed relationship, according to the commentators I heard last night.

It was the other Canadian couple I commented on.  At the end of the short program there was something about the way she snuggled into him, and then the commentator briefly mentioned they were a couple.  At least I thought that was it.  I didn't hear it mentioned during the free skate.

I also want to add Lucille Ball as Mrs. Iselin in THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE.  Her days in I LOVE LUCY were a couple of years behind her, she had done a movie or two....and her LUCY SHOW, etc.....had not yet been burned into the public's brain yet.

It would have been a different Mrs. Iselin, that's for sure, but a better one? Not on your life! I think Lansbury's performance in the film is one of the performancea of the decade and EASILY the best thing in the movie.

Uh oh, Elmore. I hope it's not affecting you.

Since I bailed, it's affecting good friends on the project and I'm rather pissed by the whole idiocy.

I have a sharper tongue and i've sent two rather harsh emails about the idiocy, makiong no references to personal problems, like alcoholism, etc.

I keep getting dragged back into the fray by the ones who want or claim to need me back. Today's fallout is partially generated from last week's brouhaha and abig communication problem from the source funding the project.

Well, we're getting the skating live on the East Coast. It's just for the other side of the country that they're delaying it for prime time. It's a question of money. NBC can charge more for ads that air in prime time, and since the Olympics are going to lose money for them this year anyway, they must make all they can.

Also, if events were shown live on the West Coast, what's going to happen to people who are working at 5 or 6 and don't have VCRs or DVRs? (DVRs are in 32 % of households.)

NBC is having to do what's necessary to please the majority of the people who are watching.

I began my viewing today by watching NCIS: LA from last week. I didn't record it; I watched it from HD On Demand. Pretty good episode, but I figured out the twist so it wasn't the BIG reveal at the end they expected it to be (at least, not to me).

I then watched HOWARDS END on DVD from Criterion. It looks lovely on DVD. I didn't have my old DVD of it, so I can't say whether this transfer is any different than the one Criterion is now offering. I do know the Dolby DIgital 5.1 sound is LOUD. When I finished with everything, I put the Blu-ray on (it has DTS-HD MA), and it was a bit more under control in volume. Of course, naturally, it sounded smoother and more immersive as lossless tracks often do.

But the picture quality was quite striking and very good indeed.

When I finished with the movie, I checked out the bonus features. Nothing different from the Blu-ray except they're contained on a separate disc since the film runs so long.
