The second episode had the murder of a ex-con and his leaving a life insurance policy to a volunteer at the halfway house where he was staying.

Then I watched tonight's HUMAN TARGET. Good episode with a couple of nice twists. Mark Valley was playing an MMA boxer in this.

He must have some training in fighting because in his series KEEN EDDIE, he also had an episode where he was entered in an underground boxing tournament and handled himself quite well.

Then I ended my evening watching tonight's MODERN FAMILY. Fun episode with some great slapstick stuff from Ty Burrell and Cam bonding with Gloria.

The world skating championships are in Turin (site of the 2006 Olympics), so the men's short program results are already posted. No huge surprises, but the Japanese are not sweeping the podium quite yet.

I really hope you get to see it.  Some amazing men's performances!

I went to the Universal Sports website, and it looks like there will be video to see eventually.

Actually, they have the men's event, all 3+ hours of it, online now. But it takes forever to download and watch with all the buffering. Argh! I wish they'd have individual performances in little 5 minute blocks. That way I could see the ten or so people I want to see and be done with it.

Now I'll go see how much patience I have with watching the skating show on the computer. Not the ideal way to study the moves, landings, spins, etc.

I don't ever want to see evil and guilty people go free.  but in a very controversial case in the news which I shall not name because it's a highly volatile case, it seems they've frozen the accused's assets so that there will be money to compensate the victims, assuming he's found guilty.

But since the assets are frozen, he had to let his lawyer go since he can't afford his lawyer.

If this stands up, what's to stop the government/prosecution from using this reason (that the money is needed to compensate the victims) to freeze any defendant's funds, and as a result keep that defendant from getting a vigorous defense?
They used to do it in drug cases.  They also would seize the money paid to the attorney as drug proceeds

I am home today.  I got up in the night to use the bathroom, and Nicky was in the way.  I wish he could figure out that I can't see in the dark even if he can see.  I stepped wide to avoid him and got tangled in my own feet.  I thought I was okay then, but when I woke up this morning i could barely get out of bed.  I called into work, took a pain pill, and went back to bed for a few hours.  Now I am walking around very gingerly (Rogers), and I need to go soak in the tub.

I am becoming a menace to my own health.

I did want to check in on the latest to the Jewish / Baseball debate.

DR Laura, yesterday I was sitting with my parents at Red Lobster and we were discussing the fact my dad had a tooth pulled and now his dentist is ill and may not be able to put in the bridge that needs to go in.  I told him to find another dentist and my mother said "Oh, it doesn't hurt to have a hole in your head, that's all it is, a hole in your head"

It's been a really busy week and tomorrow I'm off to Omaha.  I'm really looking forward to it.  I'm finally getting to the point where I relate more to immigration lawyers than I do to criminal defense lawyers.

My home computer crashed hard last night.   Just wouldn't fully come online.  I had to use the Recovery disks I made when I first set-up the computer.

It's funny how quickly things respond when you're back to factory settings.   Before the worst happened I had done back-ups, but now I can't figure out what to do about getting the back-ups back "on" the system.

Happily I managed to get online.  Now I'm rebuilding and adding all my former favorite sites as current favorite sites.

Hope I can remember all the passwords and userids.

I'm trying to decide whether to go to the immigration annual meeting in Washington DC this summer.  It's June 30 to July 3.  I don't really want to stay for the 4th in DC, but I'm wondering how crazy it will be to leave DC on the 3rd.  The conference is at the Gaylord center

What production is it, DR JRand59? Have you seen the Michael Powell film?

Right after she said it I thanked her for giving me my quote of the day...she said "Well, it is just a hole in his head" and started giggling

Is this the first legal action against someone for not tweeting fast enough?  Unless i'm misreading this, it looks like that's what it comes down to.

Bieber manager pleads not guilty in NY mall frenzy

By MEGAN K. SCOTT (AP) – 47 minutes ago

NEW YORK — The manager for teen pop sensation Justin Bieber surrendered to police Wednesday in connection with a fan frenzy last year at a mall that sent five people to a hospital with minor injuries.
Scott "Scooter" Braun pleaded not guilty to charges of reckless endangerment, criminal nuisance and endangering the welfare of a child.
His arrest stemmed from a planned appearance in November by the 16-year-old Bieber at Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island. Authorities claim Braun didn't send out a tweet fast enough to let the raucous crowd of 3,000 know Bieber wouldn't be making an appearance.
Nassau County police canceled the event when the crowd became unruly. But some fans refused to leave, crowding the narrow area outside the clothing store where Bieber was scheduled to sign autographs. Five people were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.
"People started screaming, 'Justin!' And they ran forward and the ropes collapsed," said 13-year-old Aimee Macchi, who was knocked to the floor in the rush.
According to a release from the district attorney, police efforts were hindered by a message from Bieber's Twitter account to fans stating: "On my way to Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island, NY to sign and meet fans! I'm pumped. See u there."
The release said police asked James Roppo, a senior vice president of Island Def Jam Records, Bieber's record label, to send out a tweet telling fans that the event was canceled. Island Def Jam employees also contacted Braun to send out the tweet. An hour later, no tweet was sent and the crowd remained.
Roppo was arrested for not cooperating with attempts to break up the crowd. He was charged with a series of misdemeanors, including endangering the welfare of children and obstructing governmental administration. His case is pending.
When police called Braun, he told them he "was in a meeting in Manhattan without access to a computer," according to the district attorney. When told that he would be arrested, he asked police to make sure they spelled his name right on the warrant, the release said.
Braun sent two tweets 1 1/2 hours later about three minutes apart, once Roppo called him after being placed under arrest, according to the district attorney. The crowd dispersed within 15 minutes. Bieber never made it inside the mall.
Braun's lawyer, Ravi Batra, said his client responded promptly to the police request, finding a computer and sending the tweets in seven minutes. He is hoping the district attorney reopens the investigation.
The 28-year-old Braun faces up to a year in jail if convicted.
Bieber caught the attention of the music industry after he began posting videos of himself singing on YouTube. His album "My World 2.0," with the hit song "Baby," was released Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Bieber took the fight for Braun to Twitter.
"You've got my total support," Bieber tweeted to Braun. "Wish you were here in Chicago with us."
Bieber was spotted flashing a T-shirt with the words "Free Scooter" imprinted on it Wednesday as he was met by a group of screaming fans in Chicago.
A spokesman for the DA's office said the timing of the manager's arrest with the album release was a coincidence.

Off to the beach tomorrow for a couple of days in the sun (I hope). It's been raining off and on all day here, and while we need it, my skin and soul are in need of some sunshine.
