TOD:

I'm sure my first hamburger was at home, but I have no real memory of it. My mother made delicious hamburgers, either grilled outside (my father supervised those) or pan-fried.

Currently, my favorite fast food burger is still the Burger King Whopper, but I have been eating those Angus burgers at McDonalds a fair amount recently, and they're good, too.

I guess I'll finish up some computer items and then head back down to continue the rest of my (at this moment) uncertain day.

TOD - I just made burgers for our "Welcome Home, Rob!" dinner last night.  We use Laura's Lean ground round and grill them on our George Foreman grill.

My favorite fast food burger is Culver's Butter Burger, especially when followed by a small caramel cashew sundae made with their vanilla frozen custard.  Also, in Lima, there's a famous burger place called Kewpie that Richard likes because he can get a burger with his favorite topping - chopped green olives.

As for the Topic of the Day...

I'm guessing my first hamburger was probably from McDonald's or Roy Rogers.  Or it could have been cooked on the grill in the backyard of our house on Walter Reed Drive in Arlington, VA.

Like DR John G, I also like a fried egg on my burger from time to time, but usually with a slice of pickled beet on it too - it's a very Australian thing. Otherwise: bacon, bleu cheese, caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, bread & butter pickles, swiss cheese, etc., etc., etc....

I'm trying to think of my current favorite burger in New York City, but no particular burger/restaurant is coming to mind.  However, I can't really think of a burger I really don't like in New York City.

We've actually enjoyed Goldblum on CI--just as quirky as D'Onofrio, only different.  :)

Greetingds from Toyland! I have to look for a photocopy of the "Montgomery & Stone Medley" manuscript from the Library of Congress.

That is all.

Pickled beets on a burger -- perfection.

Thanks to all for the photo comments, and for those who were kind enough NOT to post their thoughts as well.

I remember the time Dad took me to McDonalds. He bought me one of those little burgers and a carton of milk.

I rarely eat burgers now; my cholesterol goes up if I eat beef.

Best eBay punchline of the day (so far) department:  Some clown posted Frances' purported autobiography with a Buy It Now of $2,499.00.  I emailed them asking if they really meant to do that.  Reply from seller:  Wow!  No wonder the listing fee was $200!  :)

Broderick Crawford.

He was a very nice, very gentle man.

So unlike his screen image.

...and, most importantly, ( ;D) he was Frances Farmer's love interest in BADLANDS OF DAKOTA.  In fact one of the lines that got the biggest laugh in our read-through of my Farmer-Garland musical STARCROSSED was Frances saying that playing a love scene with Crawford was what led to her drinking problem.  :)

I enjoy watching him, particularly in HIGHWAY PATROL.

DR Druxy, did you ever meet actors William Boyett or Jack Hogan?

Speaking of journals, I'm just about finished THE RED LEATHER DIARY by Lily Koppel.  I had started it about a year ago but misplaced it on a weekend trip (it was just returned to me.)  What a wonderful book!  I've always had a strong affinity for the early 30's, especially involving Manhattan and its environs--I really do think I lived there in my previous life.  I think a couple of peeps here have also read this book.  I recommend it highly.

DR Dan - my book group read The Red Leather Diary last year and loved it!

I probably picked it up in the first place on either your or DR Elmore's raving about it then...

Is Gerald Mohr related to Jay Mohr?

Or the inspiration for the lyrics:
