TOD:
Some favorites are "jejune", "obsequious" and "hissy fit".
I suppose "hissy fit" is an expression rather than a word, but I've never found a way to use "hissy" alone. Unless one were speaking of snakes or overly sibilant speech patterns, I can't imagine using it ever without "fit" tagging along behind it. I do see it, on occasion, in film music discussion forums when someone, upon hearing an issue of a score that was previously only on LP, complain that the recording sounds "hissy".
"Ubiquitous" is another nice word.
Words I abhor include "typically" which peppers discussions in the workplace, much to my dismay. I also had a boss back in 1987-88 who appropriated the word "geopolitical" and made it part of every assignment. Yes, we all had to include the "geopolitical" ramifications of anything and everything about which we wrote.
And while I'm on this subject, the song "You Light Up My Life" remains my most-hated song, primarily because of its ubiquitous airplay when it was first released as a single. Hearing it today can nearly send me into a hissy fit. In fact, there would be geopolitical ramifications if that were to occur in a public place, because I would raise a ruckus with a multitude of profanities in various languages (one need not be fluent in order to pick up "colorful" phrases in foreign tongues).
