DR JEanne:  I once slipped on my kitchen floor (in Italy) and my foot slammed into a door.  Pain was excruciating.

I went to doctor thinking I may have broken a toe (or toes).  After examination, I was told I had probably dislocated my big toe but that it had reseated itself.  My whole foot was black and blue for a week after that.

OH! DR Jane - I happened to stop into this little chocolate and candy shop on the Lower East Side over the weekend, and came across an item which "fulfills" two of your favorite foods. ;)

In the stupid things department:
I stubbed my toe yesterday--or so I thought at the time. Apparently it wasn't just my little toe--I bruised much of my foot, as well. In any case, I'm hobbling around. I don't think I broke anything, but it still hurts and it's painful to put weight on it. A friend who has broken his foot twice said that the only thing that helps is to immobilize it. Fortunately, I have nothing that must be done today (things that maybe should be done, but nothing imperative). So it looks like it's a day of rest for me.

Re:  the decks on our house.  The top one is off of the master suite.  The middle one runs the whole width of the house and is the "main" floor, the floor you come in on from the front.  There's access via two bay doors in the great room and kitchen.  The bottom deck is off of the office/party room.  I want to add steps going down from that one into the dog run so that I can let the dogs in from there as well as up above (don't think you can see it, but there are steps from the big middle deck that go down to ground level).

Property taxes for both houses have arrived.  Semi-hilarity:  taxes went down by $1.00 on the new house.  :)

DR Jeanne - I'm so sorry to hear about your mishap and your sore foot.  Several years ago I got up in the middle of the night and stubbed my little toe on the corner of my dresser.  By morning my whole foot was bruised and swollen, so I went to our doctor who's also the physician for our high school football team.  He took one look at it and said, "Yup, looks broken."  There was really nothing to do for it and I hobbled around for weeks.  On the bright side, you'll be able to predict a change in the weather...

Back for a moment - the helper and I had a lot of stuff to do, including a Costco run.  Amazingly, when I opened the freezer to my refrigerator, which I rarely do, I found a whole box of M&Ms coconut candies - couldn't believe they've been here all this time and that I could have been eating them :)  We'll rectify THAT situation very soon.

Jeanne, this isn't an alumni association event - I'm speaking to the current students and a faculty member will be asking me the questions.

My brother, a professional photographer, took this photo of Gigi Perreau and me at the book signing Sunday.

It's the only one that came out blurry.

The reason is that, walking in behind us as he snapped it (you can see her "shoulder") is June Wilkinson, and I think that shook him up a bit.

Another good recording day: Valerian Ruminski did "Belle O'Brien" with a brogue, "The Song of the Bagpipes" with a Scottish burr, and was quite touching on "Wild Oats," an unpublished somg about a rich old man wanting to be young to sow some more wild oats. Its lyric is by Glen MacDonough, who wrote BABES IN TOYLAND and I thought it might have been intended for Barnaby, but I think the song's too sad for such an evil character. Maybe it's a reject from WONDERLAND or THE ROSE OF ALGIERS.

Margaret Jane Wray recorded her last three German lieder; tomorrow morning we'll record her and Zak Stains on the Spanish American War anthem "Columbia," along with two of Zak's ZIEGFELD FOLLIES numbers and Korliss Uecker's group.

I need a nap.

I'm listening to SADISMO. I didn't really know what to expect, but it's interesting. I'm learning a lot more about Les Baxter. Had someone let me listen to the soundtrack without knowing the subject matter of the movie, I don't know I would have described it, except to say "eclectic."

Thanks to George, Ron, Ginny, Fred, and Laura for the foot vibes. I have more movement in that foot today than I had yesterday and it doesn't hurt nearly as much while at rest. I'm happy with the progress. Still hobbling, but improving.

In the really stupid department:

I received a notice from the USPS about a parcel addressed to someone named Yamaguchi at my address. I suspect there are a number of Yamaguchis in the 'hood, but none reside with me. I phoned the Post Office and was told that I should drive to the PO, wait in line, present the pick-up slip, then refuse the parcel because it isn't mine. Oh, dear. I do hope that Mr./Ms. Yamaguchi receives his/her parcel, but I suspect that the Pony Express was more efficient.

You're welcome.  I think it's especially true with mental health issues.  For the sake of the person they are checking on, they need to report it to a mental health professional

DR Jeanne. One summer I decided to join a sand volleyball league.  The very first game I was playing barefoot and broke my big toe. It was awful.  I got xrays and everything. The next day the first call I had was saying it wasn't broken, so just wear a sock or soft shoes.  The next call I got was an "Oh, wait, it is broken" call telling me whatever I did, make sure it was supported and don't run around in socks or soft shoes, lol.   I walked with a cane for a while.  It was kind of fun. Much better than a crutch

I'm sitting in Little Stinky's room.....er...Little Ricky's room.   He's a pooped out kitty.   His leg looks awful, but it's supposed to look worse before it gets better.  I think he's right on track, actually....just smells like sulfur

I invited my parents to come to my place for Thanksgiving this year.    Mom talked to my SIL who told her who she had invited to their house for thanksgiving then after a long pause said "well, you can come too if you want to"  mom didn't exactly take that as an invitation, so they are seriously considering coming here.  I think it would be fun.  Mom wants to eat out and this way I would have plenty of time over the holiday to tear out carpet, strip wall paper and paint.   It would be great to get the whole room done over the holiday so I can just decorate it and enjoy it.

I wasn't going to have TV in here, but I think I'll call and see if they can put in a hook-up.   It would be nice to have that.  I think I'll use this room all the time in the winter.  The living room gets cold and this room is very warm.  I can't wait to get started.  But Ricky has to get better first and be introduced to the girls so I can shut them all out of this room while I work on it.  And yes, to me this sounds like a lot of fun!
