I think I may drag out one of the Road movies tonight; I've got several to choose from: Morocco, Zanzibar, Singapore, and Utopia, my favorite.

Winter's Bone was pretty depressing.

The next night we watched THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT which I expected to be a comedy/heart warming film and instead found it to be sad.

I felt neither film enriched my life by watching and I would have been very happy to skip them both.

Why would anyone wake up at 4:30 on a Saturday morning?

because the thermocoupler in the gas furnace failed causing the temperature in the home environment to plummet alarmingly?

I hate when the heater doesn't work in the winter!!!  I'm glad you got it fixed so quickly.

Bryan texted me a photo of the torte he made tonight.  He said it is a layer cake with chocolate buttercream wrapped in marzipan and ganache then sprinkled with toffee.  YUM!!!

Evening all!

I'm glad that VixMom and Family are snug and warm once again.  That was exactly what happened to me a couple weeks back.  I woke up and it was very cold even though I had the heat on.

When I went to get the taxes done the lady who did them apologized to me because she had a horrible sinus headache!  She was suffering the same things I am and (like me) it started suddenly yesterday and got worse as the day/evening went on.

I felt fine in the early afternoon but  as it is getting towards sunset, my head is stuffing right back up.

We have a horrible local story about a mother (I say that loosely) who shot both of her kids for "mouthing off".  My oh my.

Back from a lovelier than lovely lunch with La Graae.  We'll be recording his new Jerry Herman club act live, probably at the end of March.

Richard and I are back from seeing THE KING'S SPEECH, which we both liked - a lot.  We also went to Whole Foods and to the Honey Baked Cafe for an early dinner.

Winter's Bone was pretty depressing.

I reviewed this several months ago and correctly predicted Oscar noms.  :)

It was still depressing

I went to Black Swan.  Man oh man was THAT intense.  Natalie Portman's performance was incredible, but it wasn't my favorite movie of the year.   It was so intense that I decided not to do a double feature.

I too am looking forward to this moving even if it ignores the truth regarding the Nazi sympathizers.

Was it better than Winter Bone?

I think this shocking news is exactly meant to shock and discourage Oscar voters from supporting it; the film was written by David Seidler, a Jew who lost family in the Holocaust.

"Interesting" I didn't read that in the news stories.  Honestly I hadn't expected the story, knowing it is about the king who stuttered, to include the Nazi aspect.

Thank you all your nutritional advice.  This morning I had oatmeal with raisin cookies and I feel healthier than I have in months.

More on the subject: the Duke and Duchess of Windsor were big Nazi sympathizers and had tea with Hitler. Here's more about the British politics on Palestine and immigration. The US turned back Jews, too, I recall.

It was a comfort food dinner: ham and eggs.

I think I will drag out the Bob Hope DVDs.

TOD:

It might not count totally as classical music, but my choice would be Gershwin's RHAPSODY IN BLUE.

I agree.

Mine, too.
