Actually, what are your favorite Charles Strouse songs - I may have forgotten something splendid.

BK, if you want to go in a different direction, do you know his opera, Nightingale?  The CD is supposed to be the complete (or near complete) show.  "A Singer Must Be Free" (it's called "An Artist Must Be Free" in the vocal score, which I have somewhere) is a beautiful piece...in my humble opinion. :) You'd need a soprano, though...not a belter.  Sarah Brightman was in the original London cast production and is on the recording.

Drag to bottom of this page, and I think you can hear some of it

http://www.charlesstrouse.com/

click on audio discography and then on the left...."listen to....."

and then scroll to the bottom

This website has the first verse of "A Singer Must Be Free."

And I just noticed that they list the song title as "For A Song To Be Beautiful."

Got the bad news that a friend of mine had a massive stroke yesterday and is not expected to make it. I went off to the hospital to see him, and his sister was in the room talking about how the same thing had happened to her and she's up and active. The family is Catholic and she had been given last rites.

Still, I don't think Richard is going to make it. He's only 53.

Back from errands and whatnot, a nice lunch, and shall now listen to more songs.  Outside, tree people have removed two of the huge palm trees in the yard - they were so huge that they were pushing a common fence into my neighbor's yard - he's been bugging me about it so we finally have taken care of it.  The tree person told me that he found six huge disgusting dead rats when they removed the palm trees - luckily, nowhere near the house.  I may have some pest control people come and spray back there, just to be safe.

Spray?  I have never heard of rat spray.  Safe may not be the right word here.  I wouldn't want you killing the neighbor's cat.

And the word of the day is: PRAXIS!

And The Song Of The Day Is:  YOU'RE GETTING TO BE A HABIT WITH ME

Is that from the film "A Nun's Story"?

And then there is the song from THE NIGHT THEY RAIDED MINSKY'S that turned up in Annie!

i've always preferred the late great Lillian Hayman version!

The song from Minsky's  is "You Rat You" whose tune became "Something Was Missing" from Annie for those that were wondering what the hell we have been talking about :-)

How about the song Jason Robards and Norman Wisedom sang in Minsky's "We are Gentleman" or something like that. Good for two men with some comic staging.

And another fun male duet "Why Can't The World Go And Leave Us Alone?" Perhaps Brent Barrett is available?

Capital Playhouse added it to a production of Nunsense a few years ago.

Or two songs that were put into the London production of Golden Boy: "Yes, I Can" and "There's a Party Going On"

or perhaps one of their first songs used in a show from Shoestring Revue '57 called "The Arts" originally sung by Beatrice Arthur & Dorothy Greener & Fay de Witt

Probably not...they didn't use it during the actual show.  They used it during the pre-show when people were coming into the theater and just sang it a cappella while interacting with the audience and getting them geared up for a fun night of nunnery-ness. ;)

Well, I'm going to leave work now and go home for a bit.  I want to take a little nap before tonight's rehearsal.  It's been a long week...and it's only Wednesday.

Until later!

It's been a long long day but the meeting about the winter holiday in Appalachia went quite wonderfully. We're ready to begin a series of readings. My friend Kasey has said yes to playing the sexy new preacher on the mountain and I have a call out to Sara Jean Ford, who's playing Christine in PHANTOM at the moment, about playing the Virgin Mary.
